Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Layoff of Training Department Personnel

This flew under the radar, but over the past couple months, various people in the training department, including the trainers of course, were laid off. It was about 80 people, which may seem like a small number compared to the thousands laid off already, but this number represents a good percentage of the training department.

I suppose employees no longer need ongoing training?

"The best training is on the job with Co Workers."

This may work in retail, but in SBA where over 50% of the staff work remotely, or have different clientele, there's definitely a need for training. What person A does in his or her territory, and the territory in general, may vastly differ from person B territory.

Not to mention all of the new business units, like business development. They need training to learn how to do the job, since it's new, yet are just "kind of" figuring it out as they go.

Trainers? Really? Training is one of the biggest jokes at Staples. Train robots on Staples Way and watch them flounder in the river. The best training is on the job with Co Workers. There is no need for training and the salaries wasted could be used to pay the sales staff.

@TRIX5Xo-1ruf, and outsourcing training altogether is going to help? In my experience, businesses that can't/won't even train their own employees are usually the lousiest to work for and do business with.

I can see if they were replacing these "joke" trainers with more qualified people, but they're just forgoing training. Ridiculous.

The FC training team was a joke. More than half had no clue what they were doing and had no right being trainers in the first place.
