Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

If It’s Friday, The Out of Office Alerts Must Mean

That you can find a SAL playing a round of golf or shutting down early while the line of business owners do the majority of the real work. When will Sycamore realize that a full revamp of the SAL organization is way past due?

Staples didn't just throw darts at a wall to choose who gets terminated.

that's right, they gutted whoever wasn't a good buddy.

I say the random approach is better.

"How is that different from pre-Sycamore Staples?"

Before, people were fired or laid off based on their ranking. The bottom 10% were terminated when cut backs were needed, while the top 10% were promoted.

Yes, matrices complicated the ranking, such as in retail when high-performing associates and managers were terminated for low Liquid Armor sales... as managers who brought in the most revenue still were fired because their customers would rather buy a bunch of high-end computers than an outdated product like Liquid Armor.

Nonetheless, Staples didn't just throw darts at a wall to choose who gets terminated.

Still, it's bizarre to see the best people get laid off in favor of the worst.

@TNomEqi-6cqs, anyone that's been laid off has gotten a notice of the people (not names) that's been laid off in their "layoff round" and an explanation of how they were chosen.

That said, when you're laid off, you're chosen at random. So, there's no incentive to "get their act together" because it won't matter in the end. You can be highest performer (we saw this with the PMACs - the number one PMAC was laid off) and get laid off. On the other end, you can be the SAL that plays golf everyday and be safe.

This is to avoid discrimination when it comes to layoffs. Still, it's bizarre to see the best people get laid off in favor of the worst.

As SAL’s it’s also pretty typical to look any one of you up on Facebook and see what really goes on in your work life on Friday’s. Trips out of state, days at the beach, afternoons on the links. It doesn’t take much to see which SAL’s have their act together and which don’t. Just sit through four hours of a SAP Session and listen to a SAL painfully try to detail the very low level contacts they have even after owning the account for years. If I was a SAL, I would quickly get my act together because the focus is very much directed at you next.

As SAL's, it's pretty typical to put on out-of-office when we're meeting customers. You're making a big deal out of misinformation. Perhaps if you had a job a meaningful as mine, you'd understand. I appreciate the little you do in the stores, though.

This has always been the case. Hell, just look at the directors and managers. These so called leaders just look the other way and are out by noon on fridays. That’s if they ever come in.
