Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

SDS Reorg

Today is day that rumors indicate SDS getting a reorg announcement. Let's see if anything comes of it. Best of luck everyone, remember while it's blatantly obvious Staples doesn't care about your well being or respect you as a person... many of your colleges do. Keep those connections tight and help each other out when you can.

no thanks but i don't blame you for being angry. I'd be mad, too, if I was still stuck there. but I'm at a two-month old startup doing real software instead of suk-up politics.

Okay, @TMO2XY5-6lnl. You're clearly a child trolling for fun. You're most likely responsible for the "not racist" commentary on this thread, as clearly you're exhibiting privity among the former and latter posts.

Move along now. Adults are trying to have a serious conversation.

LOL...from Indian idiots I had to work with....you are a douche...by the way...."

The person who says "Indian idiots" is calling someone else a douche?

That's hilarious.

By the way, "do the needful," or more properly "doing the needful," is of Portuguese origin as a result of increased world trade in the 1800's. The more you know....

And you are a bigger douche....

Run run before it's too late

No clarity , no vision, only favoritism

Dont say that you were not being warned

You can trust the higher management at your own risk. I got laid off even after higher management promised 1 year booty for the team

I gave the company sweat and weekends

Good luck to everyone

@TMO2XY5-5jtu, I'm one of those end-users you're talking about and have been for 15 years. I've always had to day days or weeks for service when it so frequently went down. My company's account was great when it was with Corporate Express. It's not Indians, it's Staples in general. They paid top dollar and the service was still bad.

At least now I get someone on the phone. They sometimes have a heavy accent, but at least they pick up the phone and solve my issue. I'll take an Indian from the tech department than nobody from America any day.

And, before you ask why my company stays with Staples, it's because I have a great SAL. All of this cutting back to save money is only leading to more customers going to Amazon. The execs in my company are just waiting for them to release their all-inclusive business service.

it does matter to the end users who wait days for a service to get restored instead of hours when expensive Americans supported it. lost productivity cannot be taken into account when outsourcing decisions are made if it was they wouldn't do it

Let's not kid ourselves, the only reason that jobs are outsourced to India or Eastern Europe (so you can stop playing the racist card) is the price. The quality is lower but since it's so much cheaper it doesn't really matter. But in the long term, the only winners are the oursourcing companies like Cognizant or TCS.

The "not-racism" on this thread - you know... because the folks blaming Indians for their job loss say they're not racist... the "not-racism" on this thread is understandable. Whites are threatened by their better-performing, non-white counterparts and feel the need to lash out.

Look, your time for supremacy is over. It's time to accept that you're no better than anyone else, and that if a better-performing person is willing to work for less pay, you need to either get better at your craft or work for less pay... or both. Better yet, if you think you can make better business decisions, then go start your own business.

The truth of the matter is that white-majority Staples was going downhill long before Sycamore got involved and started sourcing better talent. So, if you want to cast blame, you'd have to start with yourselves.

You did this. You.

Keep in mind that PM helped create the pile of crap she inherited as CTO. It is true that things were terrible with FM, but look at her accomplishments as CIO. We can thank her for TCS and the bunch of incompetents on her staff.

And it is amazing all the Friend of Fahim. How do all these unqualified people get in? Seems the only qualification you need for leadership in SDS is to be Pakistani. But, that's no different than when FM was here, just a different flavor of FoF. I don't think that is necessarily an SDS issue, but stems from one of the worst HR organizations in corporate America.

I don't think PM gets nearly the credit she deserves considering the pile of crap she inherited. I've found her to be extremely competent, and it's nice to not have a mindless "bro" and his band of incompetent Fofs ( Veera? How did THAT guy get to that level???) continue driving chaos.

Yes there will be more offshore and more layoffs. The SDS org cannot and will not survive in its current state. It is way bigger and less effective than companies of equal or even larger size. There is no excuse for the bloat and unchecked laziness in a large number of employees. People working from home with zero accountability, people sleeping in their offices, coming in late, taking 2 hour lunches and leaving at 4:00. It is like a pre-school. There are talented hard working people there still, but they're getting dragged down by the free loading "lifers" who don't see the point in hard work and decided to stop trying years ago.

SW is playing the game well, she knows that PM and PB are weak and paranoid. Whether SW can or cannot is indifferent until a real CTO comes on board and starts the cleaning out of PM's directs.

Nobody is talking about SW in all of this. She does a good job of flying under the radar, but she has quietly amassed a ton of responsibility in SDS which she is in no way prepared for. She was an RSD before FM promoted her because he liked to be surrounded by glamorous women. She doesn't know about eCommerce or IT and has no plans to learn; she just sends emails and asks for decks on behalf of PM and gets promoted for it while real IT professionals get the boot

Lets not forget about Fahim and all his friends. It is amazing that Sycamore has allowed this upper management sprawl to go un-checked over the past several months. Sound external candidates have been turned down unfairly, all in an effort to bolster Fahim’s band of prior company relationships.

Does anyone want to talk about AA and the protecting of PM’s TCS decision at all costs? Significant incompetence comes to mind, all one needs to look at are the outages to see how well this TCS plan is going.

How about PT?

John L, Sandy and HR should be ashamed.

Fully agree with the first poster. PM was a failure as CIO. Brilliant, promote her. Micromanage more things, because that's the sign of an effective leader. Drive more people out of the company. Her only strategy is to outsource more and move offshore. No vision, no leadership, no future.

Fully expect more layoffs, more directionless reorgs and more strategy by the beancounters at SP as opposed to what is actually needed by the business. PM is incapable of standing up to SP and driving change. She just does what they say, which is probably why she got the role in the first place.

PM was a textbook example of The Peter Principle when she was CIO, as CTO it’s compounded. Her micromanagement controlling everything style is crushing the organization.

FM scammed his way into Alphabet, but the CTO position remains. PM has it now, she's better than FM but not as good as her resume suggests she should be

Layoffs i have heard are delayed or canceled because so many people left in the past couple of weeks. There may have been a few exceptions to this that i haven't heard about. I still expect to hear news shortly about the reorg though because that will still happen.

This erosion will continue endlessly. Staples is dying and there is no stopping these ongoing cuts. It’s like stage 4 cancer. You can treat it and cut stuff out, but in the end, it will not be stopped.

Hey, anyone want to buy a broken office supply company? I think not.
