Wayne Ridgewood Franklin lakes. Contractors out in swarms
Who’s running the fiber in Oakland? I haven’t seen any Oakland footprint getting fiber installed and if so which town?
Difference is you are no longer an at will employee. If unionizing has no benefits why are all shops staring to move over. The old regime would throw you 10% to hush. That will never happen again. in fact now they are looking for 10% back. This used to be a career not it's just a job. Protect what's left before it's all taken away.
So explain the difference between the union and non union shop..You union guys get what exactly that the non union shops do?? Please explain before we go to vote..I don’t see how Union shops benefit more? We all get the same exact thing, right?
You have no clue about what’s going on in Lodi. Feel free stop by. We’re doing pretty damn good. The few issues that have come up were rectified by our representation. You also have no clue what the vacation time was like before we came to a temporary solution so relax.
Fiber in Oakland already started
Oakland is not the ONLY people running fiber in Oakland because if that was the case you would hold the project up because you don’t have enough man power. This isn’t an “install” or “TC”...And this “UNION” ain’t gonna swoop in and save us all..We are screwd!! Why do you think so many people left..
Oakland does have a contract and in that contract it states only Oakland will be running fiber in its footprint. Know your facts before you make a statement.
All that and you said NOTHING. EXPLAIN WHY BRROKLYN IS SO FAR BEHIND EVERYONE? OR WHY OAKLAND IS A GHOST TOWN WITH NO CONTRACT AND THEY ARENT EVEN RUNNING FIBER IN THEIR FRONTPRINT? LODI JUST AGGREED TO SOME BOGUS VACA POLICY? ID HATE TO SEE WHAT THAT CONTRACT LOOKS LIKE, SHOP STEWARD DOESNT EVEN WANT TO BE THERE!
You keep saying we have everything we had before we unionized. Which is true but then the contract comes and you have less smh.
Instead of doing back and fourth explain why Brooklyn is behind every one else?
Explain why Lodi has a worse/unfair vaca policy then before the union came in?
You take responsibility for things LAWS provide employees but no responsibility after you present a contract less then what people in other areas are getting.
That guy who is talking about the union is a scam and that he spoke to another tech in Lodi. Also that the sups have no wiggle room.
It’s all lies he’s telling. Pay no attention to anything negative he’s painting about your union.
Unionizing has done a far better and greater deal for us since we have unionized. They are not coming and changing up every thing as they please as they used to do and we have not lost any more of the stuff like what we used to have from before.
To you, you cooperate liar and troll. I know and I am 100% accurate that you’re not a tech and no matter what you want to write and say. You have’nt you don’t you won’t and you have never done any technicians job. So do us all a favor and get lost off this site and stay off you f...g liar.
If it s---s so bad then leave. No one is forcing you to stay. Sounds like you have more to worry about than what Lodi is doing. Truth is no matter how bad it gets it will never be as bad as it could have been.
I really don’t know what world some of you live in?! “It’s great in Oakland” are you serious? It s---s here, this thing some of you call a union doesn’t do anything for you in ANY way. I was just talking to my friends in Lodi and they hate it. Even the so called shop steward was heard saying “I can’t wait to get out of here”. They agreed on a vacation policy that no one knew about until the company issued an email to the techs. No vote. Didn’t take any input from techs and What was agreed S---S! Instead of getting more people off a day it’s whoever sends an email first! SMH. F this union BS. They took away all wiggle room the sups have. Honest mistakes are automatic write ups no one stands in to help you. What “brotherhood” is that?!?! Scam guys, vote NO.
The used car salesman gave it to everyone in the company before it was even ratified.
We keep everything we have from day 1 of organizing. Promotions to BBT and staying in AlticeUSA. 4yr contract
So explain what was in the contract? Benefits..security..career progression?
We are really really good in Oakland. Best thing we did was go union. Contract almost complete just gotta put the pen to the paper. We got just about everything we ask for and more. You other depots wrote your faith when you went for the cheese in the trap. Good luck and I hope you guys didn’t screw yourselfs by not voting yes the first go around.
Could actual real Oakland techs or any depot that has a Union please chime in? Good or Bad?
Don’t believe anything these corprate butt heads tell you. Things are Fantastic here in Oakland. If you want, talk to an actual tech not the B.S. you hear on this site
When is vote..!! Let’s do this ...!!
Did Newark and Piscataway file for union representation? Do they have a election set?
I mention Charter as an example of an unexpected result from a union mistep. Not as a way out to turn to. It is this thing, that is happening in the telcom world.
Verizon is also starting to do things very similar to the way of Altice. Many layoffs and restructuring.
A union will change your work environment, is it unsafe, are you forced to work unsafe? We know the in between the lines crap they give us on safety.
But they have covered themselves, because thet have many safety rules in place. Weekly safty points and newsletters via email (paper trail of safe work environment).
Union can not change workload or metrics.
Union can change discriminatory behavior.
Vacation time, union wil structure. If you need an hour or a quick call for using time off. Say bye, bye with union.
No direct relationship with supervisor.
My point really is, I feel its too late. To stop the bleeding, may not give the expected result.
So to clarify, dont vote yes for convenience, dont vote yes to hold on to something, dont vote yes to keep what you have. Once you vote yes, everything becomes negotiable, absolutely everything, no guarantees.
Vote yes if you feel your environment is unsafe. Vote yes if you feel you are being disciminated against. Perhaps a few may be, but I highly doubt the entire group is.
Also remember, anyone who is 5 years and under will be at the bottom compared to a 10year plus tech, with a union.
At the same time, really consider what you have. Also consider the reality of your job.
If its any customer service based job, they all have very hard stats to keep and maintain.
Many techs enjoy the work, but hate the numbers. Thats a reality of keeping customers somewhat satisfied, while not losing a customer base completely.
To add to my point, its time to leave or ride it out while biting on a stick. Ride it out until you find something better. Dont ride it out hoping for much change.
Because customers absolutely hate this company. Vendors hate this company. Contractors hate this company. And now stock holders hate this company.
No union can help if the company goes belly up,"Chapter 11".
Chapter 11 because it will lower debt. But also a slick move to fight against union. These guys are real cut throat.

Piscataway election Jan 4, 2017 - (43 for / 53 against)
Newark election April 13, 2017 - (53 for / 60 against)
++++++++++++++
By now, you guys should already be fully aware of Altice's end game. Glad to see that you're trying once again to give yourselves an opportunity to secure your employment.
Bumbling Bob is likely conspiring with upper management right now putting together a brand new script to roll out next week. Expect them to announce a brand new career progression initiative & expansive fiber training opportunities.
They may send that used up car salesman to your shops. He's lost all credibility so when he starts doing his dance, just tune him out.

@TGEyklc-1azw. Your post is kind of misleading. You state it's an industry wide problem but then recommend going to charter? You do speak some truth but you also talk about benefits that could be stripped from you in an instant. Let's be realistic here. Cablevision had the BEST in the industry because they treated employees well. When they stopped treating them well everyone got paid off. In my opinion this is all to stop the bleeding or even slow it down. Charter is 10 years behind us in technology and will most likely be the same in job elimination. I respect your opinion but not enough to take it as advice.
Kool aid from both sides.
Too late for unionization. It wont give you what you expect. Be prepared to look for another job. Be prepared to not receive contract in your expected time frame.
Remember, NY, NJ are at-will states.
As a an anti union tech and anti company tech, just want to work without the BS of whose side your on.
You have a job, with overtime, with more than average sick days, with average benefits, with discount on cell phone, brought back cable benefit for in system.
It's better than nothing. Better than going on strike with chump change pay.
Look at the BIGGER picture. Look at the telcom industry. Our world is changing.
Talk to someone who has been unemployed for over a year. Hard work is what it is. Slave drivers they are. Dont like it, find another job.
Dont have other skills, work on getting them.
Stop trying to have your cake and eat it too, for convenience.
This company is sinking fast. As a scapegoat it would be easy to file Chapter 11 to help with debt.
Some companies that perceive their collective bargaining agreements to be unworkable will file a Chapter 11 case. Provisions in the bankruptcy laws allow companies to reject or renegotiate union contracts under certain circumstances.
More below.
Employers of striking workers have the legal right to continue to operate their business with permanent replacement employees who need not be discharged once the strike ends.
In such circumstances, the best that striking employees can expect is to be recalled when an employment vacancy occurs for which they are qualified.
This assumes that the striking employees have not already obtained regular and equivalent employment elsewhere and have made an unconditional request for reinstatement. They are not entitled to immediate and unconditional reinstatement or back pay when their jobs are filled by permanent replacements.
One word, Charter...
THINK CAREFULLY.!
This is not management, or union.
Stay strong brothers and sisters. You are about to be pounded over the head with anti union rhetoric. Some of it will even be true but manipulated to suit the company’s needs. Don’t back down. They will try to pretend they care about you and your families but the day after you vote they’ll vanish. Don’t blame them. They’re just doing a job but you need to protect your future. Be strong be united. Good luck.
More to come...
