Thread regarding GE Digital layoffs

Big pivot

Big changes coming in June for GE Digital. A full reversal of the horizontal play. Not heard anymore details but some should be leaking out in next couple weeks.

@T6CK3Qi-bixh (get real) Are you still believe in DTH? The ship is sinking. Please don't sugar coat and mislead the people. Show some integrity and moral, my friend. Please jump ship ASAP.

Many DTH folks are leaving. Detroit will be empty by year end.

It's only Predix that is getting sold? Or the whole of GED? What about APM?

If Predix is sold, Ruh needs to go with it.

Confirming rumors that Predix might get spun off into JV or sold off. Hearing Google may also be in play as potential buyer. Would make sense if Google wants to step up its game in B2B sales which Azure currently is doing well despite starting late against AWS.

I think all IIoT players are struggling in the market. No single winner emerging for PaaS and SaaS. AWS and Azure have taken the lead for IaaS.

GED could have won this space with its killer apps (I believe APM and ServiceMax are great apps that offer clear value to customers) and careful partner strategy on Predix. However, inflexibility in lowering Predix price, slow rollout of features and not making APM extendible fast enough has hurt GED.

Though the problem is still fixable, but it’s a tough challenge when you have an entitled mindset. GED is too fat currently and too slow to change to market needs.

Lastly, one poster said Siemens is beating GE. Not true. No industrial conglomerate has figured out the Digital game yet. They all jumped into it because GE did, without a good game plan.

The only group that might be willing (and naive enough) to take on the Predix IP is Uptake. That would be a train wreck (no offense to our departing brethren in Transportation).

6 exec levels? Are they expanding there?

@T6CK3Qi-bali I know for fact is not 750. I still believe 1150 was the peak. The goal was hit 1300 at one time. DTH loss 600 plus in last 3 years - Capital (250), HC, Coretech (130), Power (75), oil and Gas (90) ....etc.. Higher bunch contract developers.

@T6CK3Qi-btbs where did you get those numbers. They only got as high as just over 1050 and there is over 750 employees currently.

Can you explain why DTH went from 1150 to ~400s? It's shrinking. You call this hiring spree. Shouldn't the # go up? Are we missing something? CEO wants people at the HQs not arms length/remote? Are we missing something again?

The DTH is not closing! I think many posts are sour grapes from someone that got the boot. Could also be someone that wants others to quit to save their sorry a$$es. Anyway layoffs are part of GE's culture but closing the center is just foolish thinking. Location is great for aviation being in the center of many of there locations. Also center has been on hiring spree and brought in 6 exec levels that now work at the center.

Looking at all the things going on, seems like DTH is gonna close soon this year, no more GED

These are not rumors. These are facts. The leadership will not share this with you until they execute the actions. Have you noticed someone leaderships suddenly got a new job, align to the business, move to a business or move outside of GE. They are taking care of the old white boy network. Most folks at DTH don't have enough years or connections to the old boy network outside of detroit. DTH is the U.S.-based offshore sweatshop. Tax break is gone. India is cheaper now. The value proposition is not viable. The DTH peaked at 1150 at one time. Now is a high 300s with good % contractor. I can bet November 18 is the site closure date. They writing is on the wall. when you can put all the pieces together yourself, you will come to the same conclusion. The rumors are accurate and leadership talks is all BS. They want to stay and keep working until the site closed.

This mean DTH is going to get decimated once the structure (moving back to core biz's) is fully in place. Detroit is not close to Aviation, HC or Power. This means folks will be risks (aka layoffs).

Commercial Predix will be sold (not JV - don't sugar coat it) and developers Detroit will also be at risk. No longer GE Employees or layoffs. Predix is not gaining market sharing in the industry segment. Many strong players are making their way to be #1 - Siemen, Amazon, IBM, Microsoft ...etc.

Coretech is insourcing Level 1 and L2 is preparing for sales to Dell, HP, CSC, IBM ..etc. Dell is standing a DC is Texas and house all GE infrastructure. Mr. Drumgoole is creating his next position with Dell for himself.

My friend at DTH please get out now while the job market is strong. I predict the next major layoff or site closure is in Nov. 2018.

GE like to get folks off the payrolls before year end to make the #.

would there be more layoffs and closing down?

Its the right way to go. But all of Corp and shared services going this way. This will be healthy in the end for GE and share holder value.

Here's what I heard:

  • Predix and commercial software ultimately will be a JV with M$.

  • IT talent around solutioning and non infrastructure will go to each Tier 1 P&L.

  • Core technology will be much smaller - as much as 50%. Big alignment to AWS, closing of rooftops and data centers.

People who want to stay and have the talent to, will.

Interetsing ride coming

It will happen. I can't wait to see those so-called leaders snapping on their own faces when challenged in all hands.

I really hope it happens. The businesses would be able to execute so much better if everything but core compute came back.
