Thread regarding Sears layoffs

How is this possible?

Today I walked the floors at corporate from one building to the next. For those of you who don’t know Hofffman Estates walking all buildings takes a while, maybe 30 minutes. It was approximately 3PM. Walking through the corridors on my break I walked past 3 people. Where are the thousands that are supposed to work here?! Only 3!! And no, they were not at their desks as they were empty too. Is it any wonder we’re struggling when no one shows up to work?

Yah, this is corporate culture everywhere. Many offer work from home options and most people take it up on fridays especially around the holidays or summer.

This is nothing more than a FAKE post to rile up the stores. Hoffman Estates is undergoing a transition as well to consolidate employees, allowing SHC to rent or close off large sections to save money. There are just as many cost-cutting actions taking place in Hoffman Estates as in stores.

Sears was well on it's way to death when Eddie took over. He may have not done the company any favors , however things were too far gone by the time he got there. Things are bad, things have been bad for 25 years, . That does not mean we should be disingenuous and start throwing tantrums like a professionally offended SJW and blaming the last guy for everything because REEEEEE in the current year.

"everyone should be working twice as hard, be twice as present to get get us out of the mess they got us into"

Eddie works at the corporate office? Because his philosophy is what killed Sears, not the office people

Also, many companies, including the one I work for (NOT Sears, thank jeebus) allow office workers the work-from-home option at times. It's impossible in a retail store but for a desk jockey it's very doable and not a "day off"

I know it sounds different but that is how the corporate environment has been during the last 5 years or so......there is the ability to work from home too. This is true for any company with office workers. Some allow one day to work from home and some allow more. You arent working any less.

So the work from home on Fridays people are able to be at their place of "business" 20% less than full time & still get paid for it?

I would like to get 20% more pay each week for the time I'm not in the store. My meager paycheck + 20% extra. Would help.

@Guv. Corporate doesn't take Fridays off. Some departments work from home on Fridays. That is how the corporate environment is today.

I work from home everyday seeing as I was laid off in the last store closings. Two kids getting ready to go to college and I had the health insurance. Real people with real lives and real problems. But corporate takes fridays off when they are suppose to be saving a company. Hope that make you feel better.

Sad that thousands of people were employed at Hoffman at one time but even more sad is the thousands of associates working in the actual stores busting everyday making the money for this company. Not sitting behind comfy desks all day long. The ones who lost their jobs trying to keep the doors open. Take a walk thorough some of these empty stores on your break and the walls will tell you all the pain these workers endured.

@nfm - yeah I found it quite tasteful.

I hear ya bud, but just remember, a few of us actually still turn a profit here and care at least a little for the people we are helping. I work 50-60 hours a week, sometimes 6 days a week. I know I make the company money as I see it in our P&L monthly and also get my bonus from it.

Sounds like a typical Sears store. No customers, no associates and no product. Sad to say that a Kmart nearby has more of each thing posted but let's keep Sears open and close all the kmarts. Funny to say us Sears associates make good money. Maybe in the land of oz but not here.

@ytb I lost my badge and didn’t get around to getting a new one for over a month, the doors would always be open by someone else in the a building and there is no security after 9, so yes anyone can walk into office off the street :)

everyone knows Friday at Hoffman is weekend time. no emails, no meetings, nothing gets done cause we are at the bar, shopping or relaxing. the majority of us have been doing it for years, that’s just how it works. stores people would be doing it too if they could

@hzn I work in store, I don’t get pay increases and my hours keep being cut, what should I get then? Two extra pair days at home?!

Nice to see corporate have the luxury of “working from home” on Fridays, why when our company is struggling do they get to have an extra day off? It should be the opposite, everyone should be working twice as hard, be twice as present to get get us out of the mess they got us into!!!!!!!!!

@sum. Nice sarcasm! If you only knew.....the average associate at Sears now has the job of 2-3 people compared to years ago....but some of us do it as we genuinely want to turn Sears around......It is a challenge. And some of us like the people we work with and feel we are paid well for what we do. We are always swamped, but in general retail is fun.

It's nice to see you all accomplish as much on Fridays as you do Mon-Thurs. Keep up the excellent work

Hilarious post. So we no longer occupy all buildings. We are no longer in the E or G buildings. Fridays are in general a work from home day due to no regular pay increases since 2005.

So Corporate allows anyone to walk in off the street to roam around the facilities? Otherwise if you actually worked there, you would know how things operate.

Most people work from home on Friday if you really worked there you would know that

I feel like you would know the answer to this if you actually worked at corporate.
