Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Sinking Ship Mentality

There are many comments speaking to the end.

Everyone that thinks Staples is a sinking ship is part of the hole that the waters of opportunity flow through. Stand up, be the solution, fill the gaps and the hole will seal.

There is no reason that Staples cannot be more successful. The company is far from broke and far from going anywhere. Yes, I there have been better days but there is always a peak. If competition is being deemed as the victor then every industry is not for you because that sentiment will be carried with you wherever you go.

Stand up, and be your best and if you do get laid off despite your efforts, you'll know you gave it your all and can bring that winning attitude wherever you go and succeed.

This is not the end of Staples.

all i see staples doing is reducing costs which does add to profit in the short term but what is being done to increase market share? does not appear to be any long term plan to be a viable stand alone company.

"The Indian management has destroyed Staples and they are arrogant idiots."

How can you generalize like this? And why do you need to make "They" type statements? Can't you be civil?

How can I make statements like this you ask? Because it is the damn truth!!!!! I have been working now close to 45 years.....I have been with good and bad mangers in my career. I have never been subject to this type of management. First, some of these Indian managers are not QUALFIED for the position they hold!!! Only have the job because some fellow Indian hired them. They only care about their career path.....and they even treat their own country men like garbage!!!! Then leave after a few years and destroy the company, then off to destroy the next, leaving nothing but rubble in their wake.....

So true! The Indian management does not know what they are doing and they protect their own. Making one bad decision after another and blaming anyone who is not like them. This is not racism it is the truth. Wake up Staples!!!! Shira and Ron's Indian fetish took you down the wrong path.

I agree with the post about management. The Indian management has destroyed Staples and they are arrogant idiots. Biggest issue is most of them only hire Indians no matter how qualified they are for the job. It is an Old Boy system...but Indian style. If Staples wants to come back they need to rid themselves of these clowns. And look in linkdedin, it looks likes when one Indian VP leaves others follow to the same company!!!!!!!

Sycamore wants people to leave, particularly the senior and higher paid.

Raises? hahaha. The only mentality now is cost cutting, Ron and Shira were the best friends you'll never see again.

But you got a bonus. And read the post again. Nobody said the company is doing well but it's not falling apart either. It's on transition.

It happens everywhere.

One hole we could patch is the level of toxicity management has created at this company. I think that the first step in doing that would be to get the Indians out of management positions. I know it's very easy to call me racist for thinking this and i admit i am generalizing, but you have to consider the culture changes Indian people in management positions are bringing to the company. It would be ignorant to deny that people from a different country operate and bring a different mentality to the office. Many people who i have spoken to feel like they are just another faceless resource or piece in the generation of revenue. They don't feel special, important or valued in any sense of the word. That feeling to me is a huge indication of failure on the side of management. A big piece of being a successful manager is keeping your team happy and motivated while still completing goals. I understand the company needs to make money and that this is also a major piece to the puzzle, but so is valuing and maintaining employees. In this sense it creates a reputation for working at Staples which in my opinion is in a massive downward spiral. Many people won't admit this is how they feel because of course they are maintaining that professional barrier and protecting themselves. Which is understandable, However word does travel and the general conscientious seems to be the same at least in my area.
