Thread regarding IBM layoffs

One person who desperately needs to be laid off..

Probably Tech Sales who commented that missing sales quotas is the reason why they should not be laid off.

Wow, with that kind of stupidity at IBM, it's no wonder the ship is sinking fast.

You see, where I come from, when sales misses targets, they get fired. But in his La-La-land, the company has to hire more because they need to increase sales.

Hmm, got a better idea. Why not fire the failing salespeople and hire BETTER ones? Crazy I know.

opinion from So Cal?! don't trust it..... I've seen unreachable quotas changed upwards on the fly and forecast commitments made by foolish mgrs the trigger Performance Improvement Plans and then unjust firings.... great approach.

Why not hire more/better salespeople?

Because who in their right overperforming mind would want to come and ply their wares at IBM?!? I think Alec Baldwin is tied up with his SNL impersonations.

@etb this sums it up: "It's Ginni who needs cut"

And I supposed that salesperson needs 5 managers in their reporting chain too?

Now that is the kind of stupidity that causes a ship to sink.

It's been said many times, both here and elsewhere: It's Ginni who needs cut, and I'd argue a few layers below her too. I'd give an exact number, but upper management is so bloated that I honestly don't know how many layers there are.

But as per usual, dumb decisions get made at that level, the worker bees are the only ones affected by these dumb changes that they don't even know who made them, the dumb decision crashes into the ground (shocker), the top few layers declare that it must not be their fault and give themselves fat bonus checks, and then they RA the worker bees. Rinse and repeat.
