Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Kmart price comparison with Target and Walmart by category: TOYS

Hatchimal nursery: $19.60 Kmart- sold in store and online by Kmart

$20.40 on Walmart via 3rd party and out of stock, don't know if available in store

$22.99 Target- sold in store and online by Target

Hatchimal Spring Basket with 6 hathimals: $14.99 Kmart- sold in store and online by Kmart

$14.97 Walmart- sold in store and online by Walmart

$14.99 Target- sold in store and online by Target

Hatchimals CollEGGtibles: The EGGventure Game: $15.90 Kmart- sold in store and online by Kmart

$9.80 Walmart- sold in store and online by Walmart

$9.89 Target- sold in store and online by Target

Hatchimals Hatchy Matchy game: $11.43 Kmart- sold in store and online by Kmart

$14.97 Walmart- sold in store and online by Walmart

$10.99 Target- sold in store and online by Target

Total basket of 4 items:

Kmart: $61.92

Walmart: $60.14

Target: $58.86

and when the current Kmart promotion of Spend $40 get back $20 in points is factored in:

Kmart: $41.92

Walmart: $60.14

Target: $58.86

This represents a good cross section of the items available of a popular toy range. It shows that Kmart is competitive with Target and Walmart for those who can't be bothered to type in a phone number to save money, likely meaning they don't care about price. It also shows that those who care about deep discounts as is usual in the discount world, can see huge savings on a basket of toy goods at Kmart. Kmart has the clear price advantage.

Also one of the items was out of stock at Walmart.com and only sold via third party so Walmart doesn't have a significant price advantage without rewards, it's much more expensive with rewards factored in, and it's less convenient.

KMART IS NOT MORE EXPENSIVE, THAT'S A FACT!

How much does it cost me to get to the nearest Kmart?

How much does it cost me to wait in line forever because there aren't enough cashiers?

How much does it cost me when my card is charged twice due to cashier incompetence or register breakdowns (this happens far too often to customers - I know this)?

If I buy online, how much will it cost me because the order is wrong or late, and I have to try and fix the problem, which isn't easy given the incompetence of the customer service?

It's not always about the 'price'.

Kmart has not gotten better in stock at all. I work there and our merchandise mix is beyond crap.

@1eos, you would almost certainly save $5 versus Target or Walmart using shop you way rewards free cash offers. Not to mention this week as nearly every week you get $20 back in pints for spending $40. Assuming you spend $40, which is frankly easy to do with the variety of needed items that Kmart sells, that fingerling is only $ 7.99 at Kmart!!

Kmart is higher on toys. Hot toy is fingerlings. $14.84 at Walmart, 14.99 at Target, 15.99 at Kmart. On the way to pay more at the nearest Kmart I will drive past 2 Targets and 3 Walmarts. In what scenario would I drive 12 additional miles to shop at Kmart. Shopping online at Kmart is a nightmare. Tried ordering online during the holidays. Out of 4 orders, 2 were the wrong item, 1 was the wrong size, and 1 was damaged. My fault I continued to order from Kmart after there was a problem with the 1st order.

@1llz and @1tha, Kmart has got much better at stocking their stores. The toy department is certainly well stocked lately. With Toys r Us going out of business, there is new opportunity for Kmart to get ahead in this category.

Also, the prices I listed weren't being clearance out, they were just their regular good everyday prices and they were cheaper than Walmart and Target.

@itha, these promotions cover nearly everything in store and there are new ones nearly every week. Regular shoppers can save again and again at Kmart- one of the last true discount stores that gives bargains to customers willing to find the deals. That's what all the people don't seem to understand, that's what a discounter is. It isn't a fancy department store, it's a store where massive discounts are given on merchandise sold for much much higher margins at other stores. Walmart has really left its roots as a discounter. When is the last time that someone got a really good deal at Walmart and not just a good, average, slightly cheaper price on something?

Stock outs are a huge problem at my store. And our trucks are full of mostly full of random crap, so we can't guarantee that we can fill those outs in any reasonable time.

Firstly, the SYW promotion has term limits, so only one comparison is actually applicable as there is a limit as to the number of times the SYWR promotion can be redeemed, if it applies go begin with.

Secondly, the Kmart pricing on some items are dependent on the items being clearanced out, which the company takes a loss on; at Kmart sales price =/= unit price. Kmart pays more than what it bringa in, and zero net profit is made via SYW transactions of 100%.

Thirdly, visit any three of those stores amd on average Kmart's toy department will be in the worst condition because of lack of merchandise, out of stocks, lack of maintainance, or combination of factors thereof.

@qxo, I'm uxq and I'm sorry if I was sarcastic or condescending to you. I don't wish to be rude to you or belittle you, after all you did tell me to go f*** myself, but I'm sorry all the same :) I don't want to be nasty and mean. I want an open exchange of ideas and investigation into the truth. I truly can't understand why anyone would want their own company to do poorly, but then I don't work for Sears Holdings so I cannot truly understand your perspective 100%. All I know is that I'm crazy about Kmart and the lies being told about it hurt. I wish you a good day!

@qxo, how polite of you! Such a nice way to express yourself with cursing! You are openly hoping for the company that you work for to go out of business and insulting anyone who says anything nice about it- great employee! Why any company would be lucky to have you! You don't like Kmart, fine. You want to wish for your employer to go out of business, fine. But don't be rude and insulting to those of us who happen to want your company to succeed. All I can say is that I thank God above that you aren't in the military!!

@jhp Never said they were "evil" or anything like that. Just saying, it is hard to work for a company that is slowly dying and it kinda crushes your morale and no positive spin can save this place, including what you are doing. I don't "blame" the company for my woes, but it's difficult to be mindlessly in love with this company, though that goes for most companies in my eyes. Blind loyalty to any business is going to bite you in the a-- in the end.

As for me not working hard at my job, you can stop there. I show up, I don't show up late, I do my job and I do it very well despite all that is going on. So you can directly go f--- yourself if you think I'm lazy at my job. Why don't you go to Fast Eddie's house and get you and the rest of your family f---ed in the a-- and f---ed in the mouth by him because you obviously wish that for you and your loved ones.

@lwh, thank you for being honest. I suppose it's Kmart's fault that you live where you live and it's Kmart's fault that there is no other employment there, and it's Kmart's fault that they have the audacity to try and stay in business depriving you of needed unemployment? I can see how evil they are for being willing to pay someone who hates them to do a job for them. It must be terrible having to do something for someone you hate so much and then have the indignity of eating food that you paid for with money they paid you for doing said job. I really feel for you, it must be hard having to take money from a company that you hate so much. I'm also sure that with that attitude you are really giving it your all! What self respect you have!

@lwh Yes, I am a "loser" that keeps getting a paycheck from them because they are pretty much the only choice for employment where I live. I'm rooting for it to fail so that I can collect unemployment. Believe me, I'm not the only one that feels this way. And I'm not sure why you are having such a hard on for making Kmart look so good. Also, even if you save money, your selection at Kmart is very limited, be it toys; clothes; or electronics.

It should also be noted that if a customer wasn't interested in rewards points or only wanted one of those items that Kmart is equal or cheaper on 3 of the 4 items when compared to Walmart and equal or cheaper on 2 of the 4 items when compared to Target.

@cue, all the people who spread lies about Kmart and keep saying that it's more expensive seem to care. My question to you is this: If you are an employee then why does someone saying positive things about your company bother you? Are you a loser who continues to take a pay check from a company that you're rooting against? If you're not an employee and you don't care about Kmart or Sears Holdings then aren't you the one who needs to get a life for even being here?
