Handful of stores just to say " hey we're still in business " . Too obvious.

I'll just wait here for Bagdad Bob from Pebble to chime in and tell us what a great success it all will be.

Honestly my store is one of the few still open and our days are numbered sadly. We barely do $10,000 in sales on a GOOD day. Our labor budget is so bad we can’t get anything done properly, can even ring up the few customers we do have In a timely manner with the 2 cashiers scheduled for the day let alone get merchandise out to the floor or the million other tasks that need to be done. I Kmart is the future of this company they certainly have a funny way of showing us they want us to succeed

@tqa, I'm OP and I agree completely! Kmart definitely needs to do more advertising of how their points work and how much cheaper they are. Many customers can forgive a less attractive store if the prices are better. When they have promotions like spend $50 get back $20 they should be running tv ads showing how that $50 item at Kmart is $47 at Walmart, $48.99 at Target and after points promotion $30 at Kmart. Kmart has the price advantage, its just that so many are unaware of it. People need specific examples of just how much they can save with the ShopYourWay rewards, which in my opinion should just be called Kmart rewards (they could still sync with Sears rewards, but Kmart rewards further helps the Kmart branding).

So I work at a Kmart and most of my friends didn't even know Kmart was still around. It really has nothing to do with the number of stores or how many people it could potentually serve. The problem is with no advertising, no real community presence and no real budget to make a difference most people have no idea if the stores are still in existance or if they have cheaper prices than other retailers.

@jbr, sometimes companies that are big have to shrink before they can expand again. Big companies have more complicated cost structures and systems and sometimes a big poorly run company needs to become small before it can perfect it's operations and then grow with the new operations. That's just my thought and a possibility I could see. Perhaps this is the strategy, make Kmart smaller, perfect it, then take it big again. Easier to build new and modern stores one by one rather than try and remodel a thousand stores at once. I have no idea, but this is my hope. I also hope that Kmart now has it's best 363 stores and will build from there.

Here in the metro Detroit area, the store in my town (#1 store in the company) was recently closed (Seritage) so it could be demolished for a Kroger. One year ago, the next closest store (roughly 5 miles away) also closed. Shortly before that, several other metro area Kmarts also closed. There is now only one very run down Kmart left ANYWHERE in the Detroit area (Warren, Michigan). This is where Kmart BEGAN. If you think this company is on the rebound, look at the facts. It's certainly a sad situation, but it is what it is.

@dun, still hundreds of stores all across the country. You should give them and their points system a try, it saves a lot of money! You can even order online and pickup in store to save time and ensure the points/offers work the way that you expect them to. On average, I find a basket of goods at Kmart is 30-40% cheaper using their rewards than the exact same items at Target or Walmart.

I haven't been in a k mart in many years. I wasn't aware that they're still open

Looks like they're going the way of the dodo bird.

So still many many parts of the country with a big Kmart presence. Just think how present the Kmart brand would be if they changed Sears to Kmart and focused on one brand with a strong presence across the entire country. The discount world still has relevance much more than department stores. Kmart is the future of this company.
