Thread regarding Sears layoffs

The lie that Kmart is more expensive has been defeated

Clearly that horrible lie has been defeated and it has been proven that Kmart is not more expensive than other discounters, in fact it is cheaper. Over and over again we hear that Kmart is expensive and yet when proof is requested, all we get is a changing of the subject to how clean the stores are, or lighting, point system being hard to use etc. I even said let's do a price comparison on your choices of goods and yet crickets... Seems I've been proven correct and those who claim that Kmart is more expensive have no proof to back up their assertions.

In my area EVERYBODY is beating Kmart on price. I don't understand your obsession but have at it. I wish things had gone differently for Kmart. I have lifelong affection for it but unfortunately the end is near. 15-20 years ago Kmart may have been able to bounce back but not now.

Kmart is almost always more expensive than Wal-Mart and Target and I know that because I worked in buying across both formats (Sears/Kmart) across 3 categories. In all of the comp shopping and promotional pricing I did in the years I worked there, I can say that we were always coming up short in terms of quality merchandise at competitive prices. When you can't buy the same volume due to massive store closings, your negotiated costs will be higher and you lose the advantage of bulk discounts.

@jru, Kmart is still present in nearly every city, state, and area of the United States.

@alr - With the magnitude of Kmarts that have been closed, many people couldn't go to a Kmart even if they wanted to. That fact would be considered a negative.

@yyk, since I've made this post I've changed by thinking about this. It isn't a negative that many people haven't gone to Kmart in decades, it's a positive. It shows that the public don't dislike Kmart, they just haven't tried it yet. One sip of the Kmart deals and everyone will be KMARTaholics. Huge potential here! Nothing drives the discount world like price and nobody is beating Kmart on price.
