Thread regarding Sears layoffs

The lie that Kmart is not present in most of the country

This is simply not true! Then when proof was requested... a statement that it would be too difficult to determine if Kmart was 100+ miles from most people in the country, so basically the assertion that it was 100+ miles away from most people in the country was based on zero evidence. Let's take state by state and find out is this claim true? So many people make it over and over again so let's back that up with facts! I suspect it will be like the lie about Kmart being more expensive than competitors Walmart and Target, when proof is needed, the assertions melt away like chocolate on a summer's day.

Whether the Kmart is 50 or 100 miles away, why would I pass up a Target, Walmart, Kohls, J.C. Penny, Dollar store that have multiple locations within 10 minutes of my house to go 50 miles or over an hour or more driving depending on traffic to go to Kmart/ Sears. Unless they have something I absolutely need and it is 75% or more off it is not worth the hassle.

I ordered something on line from Kmart. I needed to return the item but was told I needed to return it to the store as it was a third party item. Never again.

Example 1 Nevada: 1 store per 999,000 residents and 3 stores located in the state.

population of Nevada: 3 million

metro population of Las Vegas: 2.24 million with 2 stores

population of Elko: 18,000 with one store

metro population of Reno: 425,000, only 50 miles from a store in Lake Tahoe California

So a conservative estimate (because we aren't even including other smaller towns that may be near/bordering a Kmart in other states or within 100 miles of these metro areas) is that 2.68 million of the 3 million residents in Nevada are within 50, that's FIFTY miles of a Kmart store. That means 89% of the residents of Nevada are within 50 miles of a Kmart store. That's a lot less than even 100 miles. It's not the most comprehensive calculation and is a very conservative estimate, but it isn't really that complicated to determine. Now I asked for just 15 states where most people are further than 100 miles from a Kmart and there are 3 already with no Kmarts and nobody was able to produce it. It's no good saying people won't drive 100 miles to go to Kmart or that it doesn't matter, because that was claim that was made over and over.

@ooc, you wouldn't post if you didn't care! If nobody cared, they wouldn't be so adamant that Kmart is not accessible to most of the country! It is fun for me because it's fascinating just how massive 363 Kmarts is when you actually start to look into it. Yes, we most stores have more locations and yes it's only a quarter of what it was 5 years ago, but 363 is still a big chain. We get used to saying numbers like 363, but a lot of people don't think about how many that really is. I mean, how many Kmarts have most people even been in in their lives? It really puts into perspective just how massive 363 Kmarts are.

@sag, I'm the OP and the one who did the posts about Kmart's per state/territory as well as Kmarts per capita. It's fairly easy to determine if most people in America in most states still have access to Kmart within 100 miles without a complicated calculation. All one has to do is go to a state and look at it's population bases and see if there are Kmarts within 100 miles. I asked for only 15 states in the continental United States where Kmart isn't accessible to the majority of the population within 100 miles and still nobody can produce it! I'm not asking for 30 states, just 15! Kmart doesn't even operate in 3 states and there are only 2 stores in the Texas, the second most populous state in the country, so theres 4 states already and still nobody can produce 15 states!! I will give you an example in my next post.56

Good grief, you're an idiot. I told you, THE NUMBERS ARE NOT ON YOUR SIDE - YOU need to spend hours (days, weeks, months? you probably have no idea how to even do this) calculating distances of all 363 locations compared to census population statistics nationwide to prove YOUR ridiculous assertion. And you're also ignoring my point that NOBODY WANTS TO DRIVE A HUNDRED MILES JUST TO GO TO A DARN KMART even if everyone in the country (except the vast regions you've already decided don't matter to you) miraculously still lived within 100 miles of one.

Here someone did a quick Kmarts-per-capita-by-state analysis (distances from where everyone lives would be far more involved) since you were to dense to understand the meaning from the Kmarts-per-state numbers: https://www.thelayoff.com/t/SHu63QD

Desperate times for Kmart means desperate posts on this site. Expect an even greater deluge of Kmart tomfoolery in the future.

@gag It is riveting! The new Kmart has limitless potential, it is exciting to think where the new Kmart of 363 stores is going to go. Kmart has a strong discount brand and a long history. Every success starts with just one location, Kmart may have already had it's start in 1962, but it's rebirth is NOW and boy is it starting from a good position. 363 stores at the beginning of a rebirth is a strong launch!
