Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Bad time to accept a job?

Hi,

I am supposed to start sometime next month with the pro support team in OKC. However, all of these talks about massive layoffs have me spooked. I know nobody can be 100% sure, but should I reconsider my employment with Dell?

if you are going to accept a job in Dell, accept a manager type of job. not technical or anything else. these jobs give you nothing but fear of layoff and overworking.

What @RxlnduF-5htn said.

In all my years in high tech, I've never worked at such a corrupt company.

It's breath-taking in its capacity for self-destruction.

As a 30year tech veteran, RUN! Don't even consider Dell, let alone EMC or any of their spin-offs. You can find better. Don't trust them.

New employee do not get much severance package, bonus, RSU and etc. If you are new to town and if you are laidoff within a year, you are screwed. Also, OKC got nothing there. If you are let go in a year or so, you are really screwed. You may need to hitch a ride home if you are not from OKC. I heard Seagate shutdown there. Good luck

It depends... if you're not working rigth now: yes. Then get the base l/o package if you get laid off 3 months later. I know some people who were in your position and they got the package even though they had been with the company for about 3 months.

I would not accept a position with Dell unless you are local to the job site. Be very careful if you have to relocate as you could get bumped very easily and get left holding the bag on relocation expenses

depends on your position. should be safe if below senior advisor. less one reason to get rid of you when things go bad.

If you are desperate and need a temp job, go for it.

I have worked with Pro Support team from RR since our area out the Services architecture together. Things will always change for no other reason than politics or power struggle. Complete chaos. Probably more so now with all of the unknown. I would be looking elsewhere until you find another job.
