Thread regarding Chesapeake Energy Corp. layoffs

Sorry, Not Sorry

I didn't want to stoop to the level of writing to this stupid site but there are so many fake and inaccurate posts that I couldn't stay silent

I have worked CHK for over 15 years, and it's probably the best place to work in Oklahoma. It's the best place I've worked, and I have been part of a real family here. I have worked with hundreds of people. I guess that happens when you work in IT, but I have seen some of the best people right next to the worst, and honestly, the best people are still here. Management has made the right decision AGAIN by cutting even more dead weight. It should've happened sooner. As a shareholder, I can't be happier knowing that the right move was made again. I know what some whiners will think. "We have even more work now!" but it's not true. Those who were cut didn't do much anyway, at least when you take clogging the bathroom, congregating instead of working, sitting in Creekside or Skyline for 2hrs per day, and don't forget the long gym workouts. If they spent some time working instead of trying to make excuses about why they couldn't, they would be here.

CHK won't skip a beat without the warm bodies who came for the perks and paychecks. If this post upsets you, consult a mirror. You had the keys to one of the great Oklahoma companies, and you didn't care. Management knows and rewards those who truly keep the engines running, and God willing, my CHK family will be toasting me in another 15-20 years at my retirement party.

I have read this feed so many times in the last few years. Yes it affected me also. Several years ago. It s---s for anyone who loses their job. But bashing everybody and blaming everybody else does nothing for anybody. might make you feel good for a little bit but trust me it doesn’t help you get a job or take care your family. It just makes you look like an a-- when you write stupid things on here. I know it’s anonymous but come on guys. All of us who work in the field are close. When we lose somebody it is like losing a part of our family We bust our a-- for our families and for the company and yes we know we are just numbers. We still have pride in what we do I wonder how many of you in Oklahoma realize what all everyone does every day in the field? I know you have a job to do and soda way but there’s a lot more to it than what I think you realize unless you have came out and went to a drilling rig, a Frac, Or a pad that is in production. You really don’t know what you’re working for until you actually go out and see what’s being done so that you can take home a paycheck every two weeks. There are a--holes on the field and they’re a--holes in corporate. But there are still those of us who try. I’m not saying I’ve never been an a--hole either. I’m sure people say that I have been, because I guarantee there are times that I have. But I also can guarantee you that I am not going to sit on some website and spout off about other people‘s families and how I’m glad someone is dead or wish bad things upon someone else. I’m going to take care of myself and my family, no matter where I am working.

Dead weight gone?

I hate to burst your bubble you dumb a.., but those of us that were laid off had busted our a.. out in the field so you guys that sit in the office and contribute nothing, can continue to get paid. If there are any dead weight that needs to be rid of, is those of you who THINK you know it all and actually make those jobs out in the field even worse. How many of you have visited the fields where the real work is done and offered to make things better? That’s what I thought. None.

We speak about core values. As far as many of us are concerned, CHK has none. Get rid of it as it does not apply in OKC. Many people laid off were good people and some of them were retaliated against for asking questions when the first round of people were let go. New Moto in STX is “Just do it!!!”

CHK was a great company to work for 5 years ago, but ever since DL and his friends from A...... took over, what once was the greatest place to work has been a place where people are afraid to go to work every day because it feels as they are walking on eggshells. Especially now that DL has his puppet, DD running things in STX.

Production once was important, but not anymore. It’s all about the hours, trilogies, and who has the bigger D.... to swing. Don’t believe me, ask any personal in STX or just visit. You’d be surprised how low the moral is.

Oh, and if you think HR will help when you suspect someone is doing something wrong, don’t bother. They are worthless and will do nothing to help. No need to add in mylearning going forward as this is just another one of the programs they have to CTA.

best place to work in Oklahoma?

since 2013 the "best place to work in Oklahoma" has laid off over 1,500 people.

you cant be serious about believing that all of those were dead weight.. some of them? sure I'll give you that. its sad that you consider that kind of turnaround as acceptable. if that's the case then i believe that you should have been one of them.

Best place to work in Oklahoma? Maybe 6+ years ago. You would really know that if you have been there 15 years and seen how it has so sadly fallen from what it was. In case you need a dose of reality, here is a current list of top 80 companies in OK, I don't see CHK even on the list, maybe I missed it, you can double check it for me. http://topworkplaces.com/publication/oklahoman/

Seriously? You must be a liberal, you have seemed to have lost your mind. CHK IT department is not the best in the state, it isn't even the best in OKC. I have been with several large companies who are dependent on technology. CHK IT department has been the worst.

It has always been well known who the slackers was were. No need to join them on their daily screw offs. It was quite transparent. Those of us actually working could observe them, easily, without participating. Good riddance.

If the IT dept walked - that place would crater.

Seems to me that CHK has met a large group of "entitled", and taught them that no, you're not special.

Dear @RwG26kh-1xgf:

No you cannot produce oil and gas w/o IT and you sure can’t sell it.

Not too intelligent huh?

I just can't help but ask how you knew all of this intel on these laid off people. I imagine that you joined them many times for long lunches, breaks and gym time. In any case if you were so preoccupied with these people how did you perform your assigned duties in an efficient manner. Quit being ridiculous.

Thanks to machine learning...we don't need to know how to optimize, our technology will do it for us. And for anyone not utilizing technology to analyze their wells...yeah, you can do that....and watch your competitors who are kick your a-- every time.

We should just outsource IT. Everyone’s a BA and no one actually does the IT work. We’re moving everyone to contract work anyway.

As far as oil & gas being dependent on IT. That’s false. Many other companies are far more profitable without all the telemetry. The produce oil & gas with Ferguson boxes & mechanical valves on the primary flow line.

As I mentioned previously. If you work for an oil & gas company but lack the knowledge to produce & optimize a well you are in fact dead weight.

Hate to inform you but the world doesn’t move without IT. Unfortunately, CHK has zero respect for IT and fails to utilize it to its fullest extent. You don’t optimize wells without IT. If CHK had a clue they would be investing more in technology and doing everything they could to keep the IT people that they have. CHK has the best IT team in the state. Also unfortunately, despite having two highly compensated VP’s it’s not led effectively.

With all due respect. Keep telling yourself that. You’re just a number and eventually it’ll be up. No matter how hard you work or put chk first. It’s a reality. I do applaud your dedication and drive. The world needs more of it.

Agree 110%

I have been here for 6 years and I have been to a bunch of field offices, been on too many cross functional teams to count, and have seen what hard work and dedication gets someone who is motivated to help the company succeed.

When I started there were a lot of disgruntled people who didn’t want to be part of a team, and it showed. When I was promoted a year ago, it motivated me even more. Although I am supposed to be in a supporting role, I feel that my leaders have allowed me to become a leader. My managers trust me, and I’ve been delegating and working on special projects since the promotion. This is a great opportunity for me to shine, and I am pretty sure that I will be promoted to Team Lead or Supervisor soon, especially since the culture will finally get back on track.

Put CHK First and good things will come. I am a perfect example.

Hey pal, your old enough to know you shouldn't generalize an entire group of 400 people. I also worked for CHK for over 15 years and I can guarantee you not every person let go Tuesday was guilty of what you mention. Some, probably, but i was in a room with a group of folks who actually worked. Most nights I traded dinner with my family for working late to stay in the good graces of the company. There is no reason for you to come on this board and criticize, unless you just need to make yourself feel a little better. I'm damn proud of the work I did there and I guarantee I provided value. Your job is make sure you do the same.

OIl & Gas are now dependent on IT to support the tools needed to optimize the wells. Times are changing and technology is king.

Thank you for your comments! This is what the majority of employees of this great company upholds in their values and integrity as an employee. Those that cave easily in and are unable to accept adversity need to work in a less challenging environment.
