Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

I can not understand

From the moment they took over they have been taking. They took the xmas bonus. they took sick time, they took our benefits (cost more cover less) They took roughly 1600 jobs. They took our quality of life, constant shift changes, reassignments to depots and call centers that increase our commutes. Management has done nothing but lie, give you half answers and double speak. They base our livelihoods on a bulls*t NPS survey which is not at all an accurate portrayal of the job done or your efforts. They promised bonuses that are impossible to achieve using this NPS system. They did away with supplies and uniforms to field service and let the call centers fall into a depressing miserable filthy office.

All the while the managers and supervisors look you in the face with a glazed look as if YOU are the one who is crazy. They look at you as if YOU are not "getting it" Deep down the realize all this but they make it seem like you are nuts. Which is almost more insulting than shrugging and admitting it is horrific but it is what it is.. At least with that there is some respect for your opinion.

What I can not understand is that despite all of this and everything that is to come there are still people on here who feel that unions are the problem. Can someone please give me a THOUGHTFUL explanation as to why..

Its quite simple to me when the corporations pulls this crap the union simply say.. Ummm NO thats not happening or every worker you have walks tomorrow.. try doing business that way. It gives the workers a voice and some power.

If you trust a corporation in this day and age you deserve what you get.

Again managers and supervisors are not your friend they will tell you anything to sway a no vote, manipulate, and mislead you. You Techs need knowledge of how shops work.

Brooklyn CBA

"If you trust a corporation in this day and age you deserve what you get."

I have to agree with the OP with this statement. For way too long, we allowed ourselves to be manipulated by management. We had countless opportunities to give ourselves a voice, to command fair and respectful treatment, but time and time again, we "trusted" management.

Here are just two examples:

Dolan speaking with Bronx techs 2 days before union election.

“If I were going to sell the Company I wouldn't take the cash flow down. I would have sold it 6 months ago. Don't anticipate a sale. I'm not secure in a union environment as long as there is a contract. The best thing to do is to learn and advance where the company cannot do without you...”

James Dolan (June 2012)

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

Fat Barry meeting with Bronx techs

"I been hearing this shít about this company being sold for 30 years, this is the man's passion, he ain't selling this company, I could tell you that right now!"

Fat Barry (April 2012)

I wanna take a quick moment to congratulate Brooklyn. Six years ago today (1/26/12), they voted YES. They deserve a ton of credit for having the courage to take a stand when no one else would. BK strong! Peace & Love, Respect!

There is no such thing as a DSL of Fios tech at Verizon they are all considered Field Technicians. So you are wrong about that. And CWA didn't get rid of any Techs cause it would be up to Verizon to layoff Techs not the union and that ain't gonna happen because they have a no layoff clause in their contract. That you're right about.

Because for now !! Bk is still Old world Cablevision !!! They don’t have the USA vs ATS separation , No rookies driving Buckets thinking they are Fiber techs ... it’s crazy what’s happening in the Depots ... all this Union talk is great .. But it always ends up just being talk ...

If everything is so great at ATS then y are there so many ATS techs going on this site and complaining? Stating how bad it is at ATS and trying to unionize now. Don't hear anything from Brooklyn or Oakland shops

You guys are absolute clowns. Given just how horrible your service is compared to how much customers pay, you should all be grateful you still have a source of income. I know it might be foreign to many of you but when you're scheduled to work 9 to 5 it means you report at 9 and don't clock out until 5 and you take the breaks allowed in between which usually consists of 1 hour for lunch and 2 15 minute breathers or 1 straight 30. I'm not sure of a union that has successfully had random 20 minute 7-11 coffee and cigarette breaks added to a new CBA. Rather than wasting 20 minutes in front of that slum you could use the time to actually show up when scheduled for your service appointments rather than expecting customers to accommodate your between 9 am and 9 pm one day in the next week. My suggestion is to learn some gratitude and earn the money someone else pays you. If you want to make the rules then maybe you should have aspired for more in life than being some arrogant French prick billionaire's errand boys.

Who said I don't leave on time if I want? Because I do. Who said I didn't get uniforms? Because I did. Who said I don't get paid on time? Because I do. Who said I can't stop for coffee and cigarettes? Because I do. So keep on saying how your so much better until you get your contract. How's that going by the way? you never say anything about the contract except we're working on it

What hard rush of reality? The one ATS Techs are feeling now? I can only speak for Oakland and we are good there. We get paid on schedule. Go home on time, if we decide not to stay. We got our uniforms. We can stop for coffee and get our breaks without any concerns. No complaints here. You hardcore ATS bootlickers are getting what we in Oakland predicted was going to happen. Good luck.

NO. It wouldn't be that local.

  • are you in the Hawthorne shop?

  • have you spoken with any other techs?

  • do you want CWA or IBEW?

There’s 1 no vote. Now let’s show that corporate stooge all the YES votes! Unionize the entire foot print and put Altice on notice. We deserve respect and security for a job well done, along with the paycheck.

You people cry so much about life at altice but do nothing to solve your problems. It's pathetic really. Because you see if it's so bad you pack up and find another job. If another job means a pay cut or starting over and you don't want that, than why not just be glad for having something. Union can't do anything for you so give up the fantasy. Deal with your job or find a better one it's very simple. No company owes you anything but a paycheck for your time.

In response to the original poster, You are nuts, you are crazy and not getting it. You work for a company that use to be good but was sold and is now a bad company. You work for a bad company, its not good. Not to its employees, or customers or vendors. For some reason you just "can not"(perfectly acceptable use) get it thru your head so you #$#CH and complain. You are no better than the people who live in the projects or some bad neighborhood and constantly complain about how bad things are around there but won't pick up and move. Just keep complaining, keep fighting the good fight until Altice is back to the way it was at Cablevision 25 years ago when the TV business was a booming monopoly. Believe....How is that FTTH project coming along?Stock price is up!??!?You will also most likely get back all the other benefits you lost like leave time, bonus pay etc. Just be patient. This is America and in America everyone gets treated fairly.

Jabba I do not believe in talk. I would love to see things work out at other depots. Anyone not signing ats was pushed out of depots in njn. This was done to sway future votes.

I agree everyone but Brooklyn and Oakland can't go the distance.

That's the wrong way to go about this.

If other shops were to smarten up and unionize, would you still feel that way?

Post ID: @1eok+Ro7gtJu

If people used as much energy into actually doing something about this whole situation as they complain and whine things would already be different..All there is on this site is name calling, finger pointing and separation..once we all come together and stand firm is when things will change..no more names and this depot that depot stuff..

Newark's union election was very close last year.... (60-53)

I don't think you guys would be able to file for another election until April.

  • how many techs are left @ your shop?

  • how hard can it be to contact Local 827?

  • are Oakland techs willing to assist?

  • are guys still afraid or just don't give a damn?

  • why not just get it done this time?

  • Agius is gone, Kennedy is still a lying puppet and Hilbur is still an arrogant d--k....do what you gotta do before they pull their next move!

So bring in the cards. Put them in peoples hands. Make them decide weather to sign or not. Some one needs to be the face of the union movement, if your feeling brave, step up and lead. It will take a lot less effort to get some one to sign a card you put in their hand, rather than making them search out a card. Let’s do this!
