NY Reps Push Altice USA, Starz to Reach Carriage Deal

A couple of Democratic House members from New York are calling on Altice USA and Starz to resolve their carriage dispute, according to a copy of the letter obtained by Multichannel News.

In a joint letter to Altice USA chair Dexter Goei and Starz president Chris Albrecht, Reps. Hakeem Jeffries and Yvette Clarke urged a "mutually agreeable" decision that restored access to such shows as Power to their district's residents.

The letter from the politicians was, well, politic.

They said that while they understood Altice's need to keep operational costs "at a reasonable level," they also "strongly" understood that Starz had an interest in receiving a fair price for its "quality, diverse programming" that is representative of their constituents' diversity. "This programming is of particular importance to the African American community," they said.

"We urge both sides to engage in good faith negotiations and come to a mutually agreeable resolution," they wrote.

Both are members of the Multicultural Media Caucus.

Starz went dark to Altice USA subs Jan. 1.

Understood and point taken. I figured there would be a spike in customers calling in to complain about it. I was just also concerned about what type of feedback was coming from the field techs.

"You act like it's our issue." <---- Actually, it is our issue. One of the major concerns that the NYS Public Service Commission had while considering to approve the sale of Cablevision was to make certain that it would be in the "public interest".

It's very possible that the removal of Starz premium networks and replacing them with unwanted non-premiums may be a violation of the Commission's agreement. NYC Public Advocate office is being made aware of this.

You can continue to believe that's is not our issue if you so choose. Just know that they're still a few real soldiers left out here on the battlefield trying to fight for what's right.

If anything you should be asking the CSR's and TSR's. We get a a lot of those calls a day with customers asking is it going to come back to why hasn't my bill gown down. It's been 2 weeks and this is still the bulk of my calls and I'm in tech support.
