Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Working at Cisco

There's so much negativity and Cisco bashing on this forum lately.

As a change of pace, tell us what keeps you working at Cisco.

Why have you not quit and gone somewhere else to work?

What do you like, appreciate and look forward to as you come to work every day.

Ex Oracle here. Looked at Cisco jobs which matched my experience. Applied. No response.

  • Cisco HR is completely useless, just posting/liking articles on a LinkedIn. All day long.

  • If you not Indian forget it. I can see why from above post. HR (Indian) + Hiring mgr (indian).

  • Cisco is more messed up vs Oracle.

Where to go? All other vendors are even more ****ed up. Ericsson is praying it can make 5G a massively difficult technical boondoggle for SPs. They will layoff 10x more people than Cisco. Huawei is finding thier customers have woken up to the business model, and want control of thier core assets back, killing thier services business. NokAlcaLu are doing a bit better, but are pushing mostly legacy. Juniper is pushing legacy or essentially whitebox.

So it comes down to Arista or Adva as vendors making smart moves and growing. But they are small compared to Cisco and jobs don't come up much. VMware is an option, but thier time will be up soon.

Customers are all ****ing moving to the cloud.

If you wanted to work for a cloud SP, too late. They are full of ex Cisco and don't want many more.

A startup can't offer Cisco package. And they are even more risky than Cisco.

I enjoy my job. I like the people that I work with. I have a great boss. Priorities are confusing and tectonic corporate shifts keep things off balance. I enjoy work from home as I get far more accomplished there than I do in a noisy cube farm. I have the discipine and self control necessary to use the WFH privilege. Most of the time I push myself harder when at home that at work and I try to make good use of my employer's time whenever I am on the clock. Work life balance is great and I think that the company has great potential.

I am really worried though that they will spend too much time and money on acquiring and cobbling together multiple companies and their cultures and not focusing on streamlining, integrating and developing their security portfolio. The security market is smoking. Cisco should be crushing every competitor here. But there is a total lack of direction from management, no cohesive vision and a lack of acumen that is frankly scary. Cisco Live had an hour of some HR dude babbling about mental meditative something something. Why not spend an hour expounding on a vision of the future?

i like the deal where we get to pick our own job title. I wish we could pick job titles for others on our team.

I like Cisco because I love the technology, the smart engineers I work with, and the chance to bring full solutions to customers. But I HATE the layoff culture, if there was anything that would make me leave it is the constant threat of losing my job

Blue badges earned working from home because we have the skills, education and experience to avoid having to punch a clock like red badge rent-a-secretaries.

I was a blue badged admin. Wfh (or eff off at home and collect pay and bennies while doing eff all) was why I left. The comment about working only two days and screwing off the rest of the week is so pervasive and not the way I was raised to work, that I left. When my SVP had to troll all four floors to find I was the only admin who worked in the building (and I am in a wheelchair), that s---s. What you are doing is stealing. It’s just wrong, but it’s the type of deadweight that they will keep.

Blue badges attend meetings to self promote in the rare circumstances when they aren't "Working from home". Red badges toil away without recognition or reward like indentured servants.

@ @PtVHw9L-2rvr. You mean ,you have to work 2 days per week? Man! you are a hard worker. No body works more than 1 day per week @ cisco. Just talk a lot in very meeting, kiss manager's rear end & you will get endless promotions & increments. At cisco we don't work, we enjoy life & we dump work on others.

I still work at Cisco because there just 2 days worth of work, good compensation although with no pay raise or promotion & 3 days for my personal pleasure. Login on Jabber & stay online just to make everyone feel that i am working. But essentially, i can take a nap, watch movies, go outside for fun activities. Work from home is essentially a paid holiday. Why would i leave Cisco. I have to work my a-- off if i take any job/assignment outside Cisco.

@PtVHw9L-1vgg, I don't think Cisco will layoff any janitors. You guys are contractors and are over worked. Plus, janitors don't make more than $60k/yr. If Cisco is laying off or plans to layoff janitors, it's game over baby.

Janitors do a good job of keeping us healthy by constantly cleaning up the messy rest rooms. Without you, I bet there would be cholera outbreak, especially in BLDG10.

If the Ciscos janitor or maintenance job is hard pay, don't go to Facebook because their help are mostly homeless and live in car. Sfgate.com have good article on our problem. We clean up and serve the tech scum like you and you are afraid to make eyes contact with me when I clean your filth on fourth floor. What's funny is these people (you) who make this money are smug f""cks who preach social justice but are first to isolate us and dislocate us in San Francisco and Bay Area- even Oakland which become hipster. Hipster are the worst. maricón all of them and racist.

I like cisco because of all the wankers I work around make me feel better about myself. Also, I can get away to the gym and surf Maroubra when I want them look after my rental properties whilst I'm on webex....with speaker muted. At the end of the long day, I have a quick tug, spend 20 minutes in SFDC then it's off to the pub to relax.

I like cisco because I can work at home and not always be in office. It noisy with open space I cannot think. If I wear headphones for to long to block out the clucking slurping from my coworkers I get headache. Also, I do not like the smell of the kitchen area at lunch because it always has strong Oder from the food and people. The ping pong tables not that good. The bathroom are messy.

Cisco is full of admins who don’t want to work, want to wfh and will do anything to avoid responsibility and couldn’t work eight hours if you put a mail knife to their throats. So stupidly competitive and hierarchical. Your worth isn’t about your achievement, it’s about getting your Star Achievement qual (which is a nice little racket D. Gross has come up with). No one else cares about Star. Place is a joke.

I like cisco for the innovations and cisco beats to inspire. We always making new slides for platform we kill before the go live so lifecycle management is snap. I also like the reporting chain having vp reporting to vp reporting to vp reporting vp to vp reporting to svp who report to svp reporting to svp reporting to the yvette. I like the free snacks and espresso in 22.

Very easy to hide at Cisco. It's like working for the department of transportation, but with occasional free food. Might be difficult finding another job where working 3 hours a week is possible.

  1. I work cisco because my friends recruit me. Job is sometime ok and pay is very good at $150k with some free foods. I don't always have to work.

  2. It easy to hide

  3. The icon mailer always tells where to connect with good inside opportunities and discounts and cultural events.

  4. I just move over from google.
