Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel's five-year plan

If you were wondering what we will be working on and focusing on in the following five years, wonder no more... It's actually an informative if longish article, worth a read...

@1yso - Had to follow the no-name policy here, but as soon as I wrote the CFO's initials, I laughed, too.

Intel's culture is overly ingrained with endless and pointless Powerpoint decks showing rapid growth of whatever product is being discussed at the time. To show something realistic is suicide. There are a dwindling amount of people who try to temper the overt expectations, but the headwinds are too strong. The Five Year Plan is no different. You have to hand it to CFO BS, though - he is a quick study.

The new five year plan is extra funny for those of us who were there ~12+ years ago when Otellini ran around saying that Intel would be the most profitable company in the world in just five years... LMFAO!!!

@cef - Right! I mean, I really don't get why no one sees this - the amount of 10nm capex is huge! And it's extremely late, not yielding, and about to put a big fat dent in margins. I don't know how Intel is going to hide this without outright fraud.

Let's not forget the tens of billion of 10nm capital that will start deprecating very very soon with little revenue coming from them 😂

Margins will plummet and great ACTs will follow 😉

Ultimately, empty Fabs are going to hit the bottom line, and hard. There's really no denying this from any angle. I don't understand why the Street doesn't see this (except, maybe, SR from Bernstein).

OP obviously hadn't seen plans and projections from the past. Why do you suppose new fabs got built in Oregon and Arizona only to find themselves empty?

Empty dreams summed up by a bean counter with no technology clue, was possible but in this competive tehnology world early bird gets the worm, ask Samsung, Nvidia and TSMC 😉

"That's what we see as the possibility, or the art of the possible, for the company,"

Memory is boom to bust, Intel will time their entry perfectly to the bust and are far from competitive on scale or technology.

Servers have missed every quarter and won't hit 10% growth with ARMy and Epyc here.

IoT is an empty dream where commodity and segmentation don't play to a single intel strength except B$

AI,AR, driverless cars late and no competive advantage except lots of stupid money overpaying for second class companies and technology.

Mobile the lost golden opportunity, tens of billions wasted and nothing to show.

Silicon manufacturing, the biggest FUBAR. Public slowing and late almost two years on10nm while Samsung and TSMC picking up the pace.

"That's what we see as the possibility, or the art of the possible, for the company,"

Possibilities missed

This doesn't really cover any new ground - read like a re-hash of the July earnings call, with a few added numbers for 2021. The author got a couple of good quotes from different analysts, though each just echoed their existing views. The article's comments were uniformly bearish.

Same as it ever was.
