Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Huge lay off inevitable?

Based on my manager and few other executives recently I spoke to, in a private party, it seems huge lay off is inevitable. I don’t agree with lot if people who are preducting 30% cut; but at least 15% reduction including underperforming DH division. LCO going to be hardest hit.

Seagate executives have had their heads up their a$&es for years. Check out their forward thinking videos, it sounds like something out of the 90's. HDD use in the future will be for backups and archives. Solid state technology is the future and the Seagate executives have no clue on how to promote or sell this technology. Solid state technology is expensive based on capacity compared to hdd, but with further improvements, more and more solid state will be sold to run enterprise data centers.

Well, is revenue still shrinking? There's your answer. The company is shrinking. So, yes more layoffs are assured. They don't tolerate any miss on margins so will throw their own grandma to the curb if need be.

It’s too bad to see LCO downsize. LCO has been profitable through mobile, desktop, and NL. LCO did not do good on SSD and cloud storage server. God bless LCO.

Im guessing anywhere up to 20% layoffs and thats only for the first round of layoffs. As seagate employees we can expect layoffs every year forward.Seagate is never going to get bigger...just smaller.
