Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

CW hourly rate

Hi all, I left Intel on ACT last year and was recently asked to come back for 6 months to a year to train someone (wasn't given near enough time before I left) and to help in a couple projects. Would anyone have a recommendation on what salary I can expect? BTW, I was a GR-8 in Chandler.

As a Yurcor contractor (they took care of the taxes etc) my wage was 2.5x my former blue badge annual pay. This was 2011-2013. And the 2.5x number was their opening offer. I have no idea at all what Intel actually paid for the contract in total. After the contract ended after the full 18 months allowed, I became a blue badge again, but at half of what I made as a green badge.

If you are hired direct you will be responsible for paying the employer Medicare and the like taxes (previously referred to as FICA). It's over 8% I believe. Also in Oregon you have to file and pay TRi Met tax. Essentially it is as though you are a business/self employed. That said you want to factor all that in if doing this direct. If going through an agency the agency pays the employer taxes as you are an employee of the agency.

I was a GR-8 Systems Analyst.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Try to get approved as a direct vendor to Intel, then you won't need a contract agency like Kelly to skim off your hourly rate... $$$$

I would say ask for 25% more than what your total pay worked out to when you left.

@1yjv You obviously have no clue whatsoever how much CWs cost. You would be surprised. I guess some blue badges have to delude themselves into believing that green badges are „cheap“.

I would expect about double my base pay converted to an hourly wage. Remember that you won't get annual bonuses (25%), quarterly bonuses (10%), RSUs (15%), vacations (8%), sabbatical (2%), 401K contribution (5%), medical (10%), Intel's social security contribution (6%), and possibly a few more items. In addition, you have no job security and won't get anything when the contract ends.

The parenthesis show the estimated value of each item. It adds up to quite a bit.

I would make sure it is WELL worth your while. They would not be swallowing their pride and inviting you back for this unless they are really feeling the pinch. If you were a grade 8 you know how much they pay for contract and engineering support from people who don't know what you know. To not have them pay you well would only encourage the continuation of bad behavior.

Something to consider is that as a CW, you don't get paid for Holidays, vacations or sick time. I'm sure you know that you won't receive any bonuses, RSUs or 401k contributions. This can amount to quite a bit of money. I'd be looking for 250k+ for a year. Even thus may be a bit light to leave your retirement and go back to that grind.
