Would you like to hear the follow up to my last post? Now it has been 2 weeks at the new position and my 1st check was wrong. They forgot to take out my insurances and even though we confirmed direct deposit for this past week, the money never appeared in my bank account and I went home for the weekend without my paycheck. If I don't get a paper check by tomorrow Monday afternoon I will have to go back to the Union #301, who have been no help again before my mortgage comes due. This isn't right and now what we deserve for loyalty and honest work. Now the GE is breaking the law and trying to ruin my credit rating as well.

GE is being torn apart by this "Pretty woman Richard Gere destroyer". The Union has been told not to help or else their people will suffer too and the hard workers who had nothing to do with the gross mismanagement and waste of money are the ones being mentally abused and disrespected for their loyalty. Also while they are forcing the layoffs they are even trying to "steal' tools owned by toolmakers/machinists who formerly apprenticed there and had to purchase their tools to do the jobs. How disgusting the management and the CEO are how do you dishonorable people sleep at night? Here's hoping fate treats you the same way.

I voted no for most recent contract but because of the carrot that was dangled and Louisville ge had the upperhand. 2 less orders next year as compared this year. if we make it to a 2019 contract I plan on voting no as I don't have faith in union leadership to do what's best for the people.

The company will ax white collar GE employees and then with contract year coming up. GE will shred the union apart with threats. GE will threaten a union layoff 200-300 but if the union agrees to less wages, higher healthcare, less holidays, and a new pay tier. Steam is gone to Alstom! The French union is way stronger than the local 301! Divided we fall! Vote no in 2019!

There are senior band "managers" in Schenectady who manage only four to five salaried people and less all under a common manager. Why aren't their jobs combined ?????

I agree with the toxic atmosphere in Greenville!!! It is a miserable place to be every day. GE is a "has been" company - destroyed by parasitic managers and leadership. Layoffs are definitely brewing again as there is no choice. My suggestion is to layoff one manager or executive for every 5 employees they have to layoff. Leadership and managers got us in this mess. They should pay the price?

The same toxic atmosphere exists in Greenville and continues to brew also. Get out while you can on your own terms!

So, I dont have any insider news (any HR people on here?) but layoffs are coming for for salaried and hourly and there will be alot of salaried jobs moved to regional centers and repeatable processes outsourced. The steam turbines and generators that are built in schenectady will eventually be built much cheaper by ex-Alstom facilities non-union workforce. Schenectady wont "close" but it may become just a service shop, or they could try to sell part of the facility again, but because of all the toxic sludge there, dont hold your breath for a sale. Regardless, I heard layoffs were coming in September for salaried, but this could be delayed by the integration of Energy Connections with the business, meaning it could (but will) be before the end of 2017 for the first round, with more to come in 2018 and beyond. With Buffett jumping ship, and the fact we are still making the same dinosaur product we did in the 70s, expect the layoffs and cutbacks to continue. Expect management to continue to not give a crap and give you unmatchable goals so that you cant meet them and thats how theyll decide who they will keep... oh wait, who am i kidding... they will save the golden boys, who need help to do their job, but the worker bees will go. New leadership is more of the same. If you think the atmosphere is negative and toxic now, just wait. If you decide to stick around and watch a dinosaur die that is. Sad, but true in upstate NY.

GE Renewables just laid off almost 40 people in Schenectady this week.

Layoffs are coming not in December but more likely in September. They must get employees off the books by end of the year which usually can take 3 months or more. I do not know about hourly people but I know a pretty well positioned guy in management who told me planning is actively under way. New CEO wants to beat the 1B savings for this year so cuts will be deeper.

They are targeting the older higher paid workers so if you fit that description be prepared to get the infamous email from HR. If you survive this time don't be too complacent because they are targeting another 1B cost out next year and with protection given to the European ALSTOM employees they will come back and hit the US employees again. You can thank Immelt for your unemployment with his boneheaded decision to by ALSTOM a bankrupt company. Clearly the WORST CEO in GE's long history.

I do not have an update but I suggest making your full time job to find a good job outside of GE. Leave on your timetable and do not be axed at the convenience of GE. They don't care at all about you.

They may keep a service shop for a short time unless it is a union shop. GE will use every excuse in the book to flee the union.

I don't think it would completely close, I think it would remain a small services shop and a few other departments

GE bought Alstom. Alstom's steam turbines are more marketable. Alstom deal is why this plant will close.

Schenectady plant is doomed to close. They got back doored by French law and can't close or layoff in France with plants that are empty. Prepare now.

I agree with the previous two posts. I was initially very proud of my employment at GE. But as the years stacked up I began to see the back stabbing, lack of appreciation, and insane politics that was rampant and ruining the work environment. It became obvious that GE didn't care about the employees at all and couldn't wait for the next layoff. GE leaders seem to gain energy and enjoyment from the process. Not all of them, but most. The leaders calling for layoffs seemed to be excited and possessed more energy and drive during layoff discussions and their sorrow is obviously fake. I am looking for outside employment. A new job is my only goal. I do not care at all about GE as my current goal is to only receive a paycheck until I leave GE. I seriously would love to see the entire company go bankrupt and shut down forever. Although unlikely in the near future GE deserves it. No other company would survive the insane management practices and decisions from constantly revolving incompetent leaders and constant political reorganizations.

I know exactly what you mean, @OxCQJWS-4oid . Everyone I interact with at work seems to be preoccupied with the spectre of layoffs hanging over us. It is affecting productivity across the board, which will practically guarantee there will be more. I, too, wish they would just get it over with!

if what is being said had some truth to it I just wish they'd get it over with already ge is getting to be such a terrible place to work not knowing who you can trust or who's going to stab you in the back. I remember as a kid everyone talking about how ge was such a wonderful place to work I would have never imagined it would be as bad as it is now. I know as an adult now no matter where I work or what I'm doing there will be some stress and b---s--- to deal with but I would have never imagined it would be as bad as it had gotten here. I'm doing my best everyday to stick it out but it's getting harder and harder for me to wake up and go to work.

I still remember a discussion that happened during a visit to GRC around 2015 to view a technology development project. Our team was obstructed from carrying a 15 lb. sample part from one building to another by union members. We were told it would take a day to have a union employee move it for us, wasting everyone's time and the money GE was spending to have us there. When we mentioned this to the principal scientist who was coordinating our project on GRC's end, I told them incidents like these often add up to a case for laying people off. I got one of the most arrogant replies I have ever heard from a GE employee: "Our work here is too valuable to the company for that to EVER happen. We're not just some factory in the backwoods that no one would miss. We're ESSENTIAL to the company's future innovation." Not really having a response to that, I let it go. I would call him up now, but he was laid off along with so many others that Vic axed. As a side note, after this incident our team largely stopped working with the Schenectady GRC and sent new work to GRC Shanghai and Bangalore instead. We've often got more useful results and got them faster than we ever did from Schenectady, which could shut down completely for all I care.

@OxCQJWS-4fse, The only site that's a joke is General Electric. This site is a forum for open discussion of layoffs by General Electric. If you don't think General Electric is well known for their continuous layoffs and are constantly plotting their next layoff action you are mistaken.

More layoffs will also be coming to Greenville as a direct result of the consolidation.

Everything related to GE Energy and GE Power is going to be consolidated under the CEO of Energy Connections (based out of Atlanta). There won't be a complete shutdown of the Schenectady, but right now, the number I've heard is around 2 to 3 hundred.

As far as I have heard, December is way too late. I heard there will be massive layoffs here at GE Power Schenectady pretty soon(in August itself). GE can not merge two businesses(GE Power and GE Energy Connections) without doing so.
