Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

The end is 6 months away.

In 6 months the weekend workers will be gone, hammer will be be history and seagate will gut R&D. We will be a production only company as we die off.

That was a very fine post, Hold My Balls. Very fine. I like you.

People underestimate the Power of Hammer. The LAZERs of Hammer will wipe the floor with these overpriced, unreliable "Flashy" storage products. Within a year or so, I expect most engineering deportments will be scrambling to assemble new grad programs in Hammer Laser Fizzicks and Magentic Recorder Theory. Because if there is one uncertainty here, it revolves around the need we will have for the engineers needed to do all the great Hammer work going forward; this new technology of the future, the greatest enabler of Area Destiny, the so-called SLAYER OF SDD!!

Very well said , Insane.

It would be good if the nay sayers would find other "opportunities" elsewhere and leave the inconceivable profits that Seagate is going to generate when HAMR drives start flying off the shelves to the visionaries and able-minded engineers, technicians, scientists, and managers that had the dedication to stay the course and focus on the task at hand.

Anyone that wants to keep your job at Seagate: Do more than you're asked. Offer to help at every opportunity. If you see something needs to be done, do it.

Companies are in the business to make money. If you are not truly an asset with something to offer, then you're probably not needed.

Cheers.

Agreed on R&D gut. HAMR will take a bit longer to play out than that. Gotta keep hope alive for those stock investors. I expect at the sub- $5/share price when they have to eliminate the dividend, some company will pick up Seagate if only to own the patents and run it as commodity to end of life.

Corporate keeps coming on here trying to shine up a turd. Lol, they must really be worried about the employees moral. Too late, you hosed them too many times. No one's gonna work hard for you. Everyone will do the minimum until they are layed off. No one cares any more.

My guess is that things will be a bit "iffy" for a month or two more, but based on comments that the execs have recently made about HAMR, it sounds like it is almost ready to launch. At that point, there will be a lot of new products and high demand as so much of the old SSD market moves over to HAMR drives.

There will be such an upheaval in the STX/WD market mix that it will make the Thai floods look like a garden party in comparison. I don't see how WD will be able to compete, honestly.

I'm also thinking many of those impacted by the recent RIFs will probably have lots of job opportunities at the new Seagate, as they look to staff up and will need lots of experts going forward.

Seriously, if the future did not look so bright to the upper mgmt, (and they can see the lay of the land much beter than we can) do you think they would be having HAMR celebrations in Thailand? Money is tight at the moment, so the fact that they are doing such things says to me that the future is bright indeed. If they didn't think so, they'd pinch those pennies.

I'm excited! So let's stop the trash talk and support the team, folks.

There's so much tension in our department it's not worth engaging anyone. People are snapping at each other all the time. Seagate will soon start moving people to other shifts to get work done wether they like it or not. Employees are not people.
