Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

Coming To A Theatre Near You.....GOOD BYE MICKEY D's: College Graduates Will Be Replacing ATS Technicians

Just when you thought it couldn't get worse.... IT DOES! When you're caught sleeping behind the wheel. Thanx To Poster Kanobee for the info. The link he provided is down below.

It's last year's New York State Public Service Commission petition filed by Altice to merge with CVC. I know, I know ... it’s already a done deal.

But I read the damn thing. An 89-page petition plus a 30-page appendix. And Jesus Christ.... how this state... this country... allowed this to happen. I won't get into it because it pissed me off. If you read it, you'll know what I mean. It's loaded with "legal-ease" or legal jargon that was meant to make government politicians and lawyers feel smart and look sophisticated. It's what mindless, carbon-based humanoids do.... impressing no one.

Many sectors of concerned citizens and government were involved in deciding this merger deal, which also included the City of New York. And here's their two-cents:

At the bottom of page 21, it states....

"The City made three substantive recommendations. First, it requests that Cablevision’s resiliency plan be made publicly available and shared with local governments, and that we clarify that the proposed condition does not limit the inclusion of additional resiliency measures by local governments during franchise negotiations. Second, the City requests that City University of New York system be part of the workforce development initiative. Third, the City recommends that the low-income broadband program be modified to include “strengthened consequences” should Cablevision fail to meet its penetration targets."

Did you catch the second recommendation? "... the City requests that City University of New York system be part of the workforce."

We continue, page 101, from the appendix,

Under Employment Pilot Program....

  1. The Petitioners (Altice) shall be required to establish a workforce development pilot program with the State University of New York and City University of New York systems to provide a New York State job pipeline to graduates of either two or four-year institutions.

  2. A plan to implement such a program shall be filed with the Secretary to the Commission within 90 days of the close of the transaction.

  3. The program must be launched within one year of the close of the transaction.

In Congress, it's referred to as "Pork Barrel" legislation when you "sneak" an unrelated item into a bill to gain positive votes. This made the merger deal into a feel-good story. A movie where the good guy wins. Iron Man to the rescue.

Oh, how nice.... the puppy in the animal shelter has found a home. Altice wants to help out the college graduate. I guess anyone finishing college is a presumed intellectual. And now the graduate's next challenging frontier is changing a fitting while paying off his student debt on a useless degree.

Forget offering jobs to those who couldn't afford college in the first place. Imagine telling someone to put down those books and start carrying that ladder around?

Get the cameras out, fellas. It's YouTube time!

But forgive me. My mind isn't focused.

I'm just wondering what it would've been like, working with a graduate in Bio-Medicine as you're running a drop during a snow storm? Or, how a Psychology major working on his masters, would respond to a customer when they ask why their bill is so high? An Physics graduate explaining the workings of a bucket-truck and why "the bucket" doesn't fall down.

Or, better yet, a graduate of John Jay Criminal Justice who examines this same Public Service Commission petition, scratches his head and says,

" HOW THE HELL DID THEY LET THIS HAPPEN? "

You decide.

Again your situation has nothing to do with the company or its needs. Your responsible for your life and your decisions. If you failed academics or just wasn't interested in furthering your education, or maybe you was born into poverty by a mother who was a wh--e and a daddy that was a pimp that's your unfortunate life. You still have a choice. You can let your upbringing be an excuse or empowering. Either way all our life situations are ours to deal with as we see fit not the company.

Again you speak of a time when everything was new and not everyone even had a diploma. Education and the private sector was still growing. As a result people in power got greedy and yes poorly educated blue collar workers had to come together and make a difference. But today is not that day. Far too many people unemployed not enough work and far too many people. Not to mention everyone and their grandmother grabbing degrees. The competition is stiff. Medical is an issue for all including companies. Thank Obama care for that disaster. Some companies don't even offer medical. As for the sick days and vacations that actually falls in line with today's standards for paid time off. Dolans benefit package was common in that time but not today. Not for today's labor market where companies require more for less just to stay profitable. You can thank our deficit and trade deals for that.

You see the state of our own government is the catalyst of the situation we are all in. Contrary to your statement unions have been on the decline for years for a reason. They are useless in today's market.

You my friend don't seem to understand your thinking is dated your views are obsolete. The world has changed and you must learn to change with it.

Y'all a bunch a paranoid goofballs. This one thinks he's a lawyer, the other one thinks he's Nostradamus lol. You all sound like sports fans. Think you know how to run a team better than the people actually involved.

Altice has been nothing but good to us. But you guys want to paint a bad picture you can't sell. They are trying to grow and secure a future with all of us without going bankrupt. They had to make tough decisions for the greater good. But all you do is bad mouth them spread paranoia that's unfounded. Twist everything into some biblical doomsday situation, and let's not forget the constant conspiracy theories. You people are nuts! ESPECIALLY OBEE AND KOBEE.

with all the old facts, and all the audio and paperwork you take out of context or twist into some horrible employee death sentence the more stupid you look. Techs here are happy and moving forward with whatever ATS/ALTICE needs. Whatever reputation or deeds drahi has done in Europe has not repeated here and is one sided complaints from the losing side. The man is not looking to destroy lives he's done nothing but good by us since day one.

The cable industry has changed as a whole. Every company is consolidating, making cuts and changes as needed. Some are sad, some are not so good but that is the state of the economy and the people and industry itself. It is a different time and place. Your old school way of thinking is the problem not drahi or the company. You need to realize all this nonsense you spewing on the forums is helping no one. You all sound like dam fortune cookies and apparently one of you has a dam crystal ball and don't realize it's cracked.

Just move on or adapt its very simple. Unions are a thing of the past. No one wants or needs them today. Just a bunch of low life gangsters offering insurance on something you can no longer insure fully.

sure, he's no threat physically, he's a featherweight at about 5'4'' and barely 126 pounds

After Altice closed the deal on the sale, he was the last man standing when the rest of corporate jumped ship. Altice clearly trusted him to carry out all their dirty work which for the most part has worked out pretty well thus far. Once he completes their mission (ATS/Fiber), he will no longer be needed. You can book it.

"A plan to implement such a program shall be filed with the Secretary to the Commission within 90 days of the close of the transaction"

90 days later, Altice filed a report with the Commission:

`ALTICE USA

90-DAY REPORT AND IMPLEMENTATION PLAN`

Employment Pilot Program

The Merger Order requires that, within one year of close, Altice establish and launch a

workforce development pilot program with the State University of New York (“SUNY”) and

City University of New York (“CUNY”) systems to provide a New York State job pipeline to

10

graduates of either two or four-year institutions. Clause IV.B.2 requires that a plan to implement

such a program be filed with the Secretary to the Commission within 90 days of the close.

Altice is committed to ensuring it has a talented and engaged workforce – now and in the

future – and views a workforce development pilot program as aligning with this commitment.

The pilot program required by the Merger Order will include training, on-the-job experience,

mentoring, team building and professional development feedback for participants. The

Company recently completed its 2016 summer internship program and is currently in the process

of evaluating and planning for a new program to be launched within the timeframe provided by

the Commission. To inform the development of this program, senior management has asked for

internal feedback from business units that participated in past intern programs and to

identify roles that could be candidates for inclusion.

The Company is also participating in on-campus career fairs and information sessions to

establish Altice as an employer in the community and to learn more about the prospective intern

population to inform program development. For example, on September 16, 2016, Altice

participated in a Computer Science & IT Job and Internship Fair at SUNY Stony Brook, where

students had the opportunity to speak with a recruiter and business representatives from Altice.

Prior to the end of 2016, the Company will engage with SUNY and CUNY representatives to

ensure that the workforce development program resonates with the targeted intern population

and attracts qualified candidates for participation in a pilot to launch by June 2017 as stated in

the Order.

According to the dictionary:

Definition of Can: to be permitted to

Definition of allowed: give permission to do something

I think the verbs mean the same exact action

Your reading way too much into it. Calm yourself. Cablevision requires a minimum two year degree and has required this for a few years now. Kids still in school studying for something better won't want this job in the end.

As for how they let this happen? You should know by now most city officials are corrupt that's why. They don't do anything without a benefit of some kind. Pork and barrel is something that lobbyist love it is the pipeline to many side deals within our govt.

An example would be when Altice said Union can transfer to ATS but never said they would be allowed. The main word being "can"

You have no idea the crap that goes down when people with power, money, and a flair for the English language get together to decide the fate of the lesser people.

Cablevision started requiring college, trade school, or military service with honorable discharge for new hires about 4-5 years prior to the sale. One of the many things that changed prior to the Altice deal being announced.
