All you need to know about intel health is check on 10nm

Billions and billions invested in development process, mutiple billions in the products, tens of billions of money on the tools, billions soon as WIP. All this is hiding in the ledger but must soon be revealed as the last ACTs. It it goes like 14nm with slower and more complex learning and even further starting point, can't wait to see the next ACT.

This will be Intel's equivalent of Toshiba's Westinghouse 😉

BK will say no "real" N10 product on market until mid2018. Intel owns definition of "real" N10, N7, .... BK can say whatever he want to say to make sure intel "lead". Rest world will work out rest.

Besides intel captive designers intel has failed to attract anyone to their 3 year ahead best density and superior high yielding process. If it is so great why aren't customers flocking from GF, Samsung, or TSMC? If it is just failed marketing than Stacey, Mark, Kaizad and Ruth should be fired and some real good snakeoil salesman should be hired, or maybe everyone knows intel for what it really is 😉

Intel admits their 14 was slow compared to their 22nm and missed goals. One company getting better the other worse!

"TSMC N7 will enter risk production in second quarter this year. So far, we have more than 30 customers actively engaged in N7. And we expect about 15 tape-outs in this year with volume production in 2018. In just 1 year after our launch of N7, we plan to introduce N7+ in 2018. N7+..."

"We have been working with major customers to define 5-nanometer specs and to develop technology to support customers' risk production schedule in second quarter 2019, with volume ramp in 2020. Functional SRAM in our test vehicle has already been established. We plan to use more layers of EUV in N5 as compared to N7+."

Can't wait to here BK talk about intel 7nm yield or bet his job that 10nm will have volume and when!

I really love this kind of hilarious debate. When you talk about product lead, Intel talk process lead, when you talk process lead, Intel created "density lead", if you talk density lead likely intel jumps to x86 design lead. What customer really care is the product is really functioning the way customer want and who is best. Those arguments mean nothing if you do not have product customer eagerly waiting for.

Three factories running and how much revenue will come off them. Even if intel ramps yield as fast as 14 they will bust finances and we all know how much more complex 10 is over 14 and takes longer to run 😉 Intel failed at 14nm and 10 will be more spectacular! Based on this plot 14nm has it matched 22nm, if not 10nm TMG and Intel got big problems with the margins over the next three years, can't wait to see the ACTs to come 😂

No question foundry playing numbers game and I agree intel 10 like Samsung TSMC 7, but who will be first and who will be more successful in monetizing it? Intel is one and done with their fabs while Samsung and TSMC generate revenue from them for decades. For example Intel has to shut f11x a similar fab at Samsung and TSMC print money for their respective companies. Intel has no foundry and they can't monetize their fabs after running CPU. I will admit they are getting four generation from 14nm but that is because of 10 failure. If 10 was on time alll the 14nm would be empty.

" Intel's 10nm is more similar to TSMC and GF/SS 7nm processes than to the competing 10nm processes. Even though Intel has a significant density advantage at each node the forthcoming 7nm foundry process will likely pass Intel for process density and maintain that yield for at least a few years."

You are naive .. did you read and comprehend the financial implication of running and depreciating 3 10nm factories at crazy high wafer cost and getting little out of them? No way can intel provide meaningful ramp and volume on 10nm to recover margins. The executives have already started to mention this in their financial updates to avoid any lawsuits 😉

Pretty sad made all this money and fumbled a three year lead. I have a secret to share, intel isn't the process leader. Their volume is small and their fabs small, without competition they got lazy and arrogant and look at the result!

What does it matter? As long as nobody else has a 10nm process, it is a pointless discussion.

And I am talking about real 10nm, not the marketing b---s--- from TSMC and Samsung.

Corporate revenue does not equal corporate profit. Intel's profit slipped 1.4% (WSJ Ted Greenwald, Jan 26) for Q4 2016. Add to this that Intel has a debt position of about 20 billion dollars before the Mobileye purchase and you have a reason for concern.

Intel's position as the largest semiconductor company seems to be lost to TSMC and in contrast to Apple or Google, Intel is not a huge company (Goog market cap is 576 billion; intc market cap is 166 billion.)

Intel's profit margin is about 25 or 26 percent, which is healthy (About a fourth of the revenue.) So, will Intel disappear tomorrow? Absolutely not and they pay a decent dividend which is nice in a turbulent market. But, they are range bound on stock price and they lost .38 cents a share again today staying well below the resistance point of $36.00 per share.

Intel is betting heavily on Mobileye and whatever their diversity strategy is for the future. So, is it assured of a great future? No. Is it absolutely bound for failure? Also no. But, analysts are beginning to temper their positions and put the stock in the hold or sell bucket.

Summary: Ride the train. Enjoy the scenery and the next dividend. Be prepared for tomorrow good or bad. Good luck to all of you.
