Thread regarding State Street Corp. layoffs

It's April 12th----Now What?

I am at my desk -- so far nothing much going on. Everything seems quiet around me. The usual suspects around me are in as well.

I will update if I see anything worth reporting. Please everyone do the same. We are in this together

remember these slow small layoffs take a toll on people which also creates people that may not want to leave to still look elsewhere and leave .

It's brutal that you can never ever feel secure satisfied safe or happy which might be worse than the actual layoff.

However, either way, it's not good for the human well being bottom line .

and you can disassociate yourself with the human element as much as you want, but doesn't mean it doesn't hurt or impact, denial of the human toll should not be allowed.

And regardless of age, it's never easy but the glib comment that young people can relocate, well gnot everyone wants to leAve their family, friends, apartment or residence. It's a huge toll no matter your age, again they pit one against the other, don't fall for it.

We're all in this together it's not right when someone is laid off just to satisfy shareholders Wall Street analysts and the CEO whose salary is buoyed by layoffs .

@ Post ID: @MLgNr8h-1oie. You are right about laying off the highest paid employees. I believe that I was one of the highest paid employees at my position when I was laid off. I also know of other former employees who are good friends of mine who were at much higher positions who were also let go. For most of these large financial institutions it is all about the bottom-line and not caring about the employee who is laid off which is very difficult for anyone who has a family.

At least the younger worker has more opportunities since most companies only want to hire younger workers which makes sense to me. Even if you have no connections the younger worker who has no family ties can always relocate.

I don't believe there will be a "day" were there will be massive layoffs, it is ongoing and is already happening. I know if two, 20+ year workers that got the axe in mid-March, and it wasn't performance based. Departments have been, and will continue, to go lean, and layoff one or two people in a year. Many times it's a matter of length of employment and salary. Performance issues make the decision easier, but if a manager has to drop one worker it will probably be the person that makes the most.

I left SSGM in Dec 2015 after 10 years of sticking my head to computer screens to make thing better for everyone on the floor. Now guys have a difficult time to advance their career, so my advise is that they should not waste their prime time on a place that doesn't value theior work. Get ready and jump off the ship before it sinks too deeply.

Now looking back, i wished i left earlier.

Great post and I definitely agree with you. As a long-time former employee of State Street I changed my plans many times and even missed wakes/funerals since I was afraid of losing my job. If the system went down we would have to work until maybe 9:00 pm or later in order to try to accomplish what was expected of us for the day. Many times you deal with unrealistic deadlines since the system doesn't really operate the way it should. I am just thankful that I am older and near the end of my career. It is really sad for me to see what has happened to the jobs in this country and only hope that this trend of sending jobs overseas reverses especially for future generations.

Shouldn't we be happy that April 12th was just an arbitrary date someone declared as a deadline and it wasn't?

No one with the knowledge of layoffs would be releasing that sensitive information on a thread here, admit it it was a fake date to scare people.

What a nasty comment saying a fellow co worker has a job stuck in the mud.

That's precisely the low morale that festers at state street.

Shouldn't you hope they find a job that betters them and rewards them instead of wishing Ill thoughts upon them?

Boy,I'd hate to be you looking in the mirror in the morning.

That's the cynical attitude that crushes an already difficult employment situation.

Aren't we all in this together?

Maybe it's you that needs to be in this "wave" as you state as your attitude towards your colleagues is stuck in the mud.

You better hope this wave of layoff happen to you. Take a package and unemployment benefit to find another job or back to school. You sound like your career is stuck in the mud.

Let me tell you what will happen today.

You will work all day with outdated, irrelevant programs with unending deadlines hampered by slow programming making you and your skills just one more day more obsolete in a very cut throat, competitive, narrowing financial industry that is outsourced to the nth degree and Automating us all out of a job in the near future.

This is what is happening right now.

Plus with our meager salary base employers outside will view us as hacks. Apathetic losers when we apply for a job knowing that STT has driven any drive or skill out of your once well established college degree that you worked hard for and earned, unlike our CEO who for some reason reaps the benefit to a level kings would aspire to having.

And that my dear coworkers is what is happening today, rinse and repeat tomorrow only worse kind of like the movie Ground Hog Day only Bill murrays character actually learns and prevails out of his nightmare, because that is just pretend.

We live and breathe the nightmare of servitude without any chance or very slim chance of getting a promotion or significant raise or heaven help us find a job outside of the salt mines.
