Thread regarding State Street Corp. layoffs

So now that the fake date has come and gone...

What can WE do together to help one another advance our careers either internally or externally?

We are not on islands we interact everyday with one another, we need to help and have each persons back.

That's how we will persevere and succeed.

So I ask those of you with experience what real suggestions do you have to make it in such a hostile field and work environment?

It's kind of like the Stockholm syndrome working here, you get told enough either verbally or by not getting raises or promotions or chronic layoffs they your stuck and you need to survive.

You stay on thinking there's no way out, you need to survive your survival instinct kicks in and the next thing you know it's ten years later and your spouting the corporate mentality.

There is a way out, I haven't found it yet. But I keep trying and I refuse to stop trying.

Just because I took the job fresh out of college doesn't mean they own me.

I like my job, I like my co workers, I get along great with my manager but I cannot live on this salary and expect to provide for a family when I decide I wAnt one.

There has to be some relief from the threat of chronic layoffs you can't keep humans in this type of stress without profound negative health implications.

I'm Not exaggerating the constant fear of losing a job is a grave stressor.

What business model does jay ascribe to? Other than sweat shops I don't thinkthis business model is being taught at any reputable university.

It's sad and unnecessary.

If the people that make the decisions are truly connected to their staff they'd be more humane.

They behave like the early 1980's CEOs that got arrogant and cut for the sake of cutting to prove a point they were in charge.

Let me give you an example from the company that makes Watson,(trying to be discrete here).

In the 70's if the business was slow they'd have system engineers paint buildings anything but lay them off, the CEO had worked his way up the corporate ladder as a system engineer.

Then a guy named Lou came I think from a cookie or cracker company and his famous line was, "you want loyalty? Get a dog"

And that was and has been the sentiment of big CEOs and corporations and our government let them outsource and layoff and neglect the American worker.

With the new WH admin he's stlesst tryimg to change the mindset and calling out CEOs and remind them America first,

Unfortunately our CEO and uppers didn't get the memo or shred the memo either way it's not good and we bear the brunt of that arrogance, entitlement, denial and disassociation to the employee.

The workers at SST have been so demoralized they have no more fight left.

They just go into work each day praying they are not going to get a pink slip.

Hope when they come to work their access badge lets them in , if it turns red it means your being

let go.

When people have had their workload doubled and sometimes tripled, gone 2+ years without a raise.

Or get the whole 1% they have no more fight left.

A lot of them stay in this prison because they know the economy is so bad that even if they find another job its going to be at a 25% to 35% pay cut.

Which means they have a good chance of losing their house or having to take in a roommate to make up for the loss of income.

Why can others groups be cohesive work together for the greater good for their cause and STT ppl can't?

It's so discouraging this is the perfect time to get our message out!

Whomever is reading this let's get a FB page going work together to get our political reps involved this is our livelihood we need to work together he is NOT going to save us, I don't think he knows we exist!

We need some piece of mind it's torture to live under the fear of a constant layoff how can that be healthy?

We certainly deserve better representation!

Many months ago this rallying cry was developed. At the time a rally to the capital building was being organized in Boston.

Many laughed---a few took it serious and understood early on what is going on at the Clipper ship.

The slogan/rallying cry is now more relevant than ever:

Hey hey ho ho Jay h has got to go!

Sing it loud - sing it proud. Tell your workmate! Share when you are having lunch. Share it when you ride the elevator to you floor and back down.

It seems the uppers have sold out their souls

To be so removed and detached to the local regular employee that drives the same highway as your limousine or AMG or jaguar is at the lowest level of human dignity.

Pull into your gated community, keep the blinders on it for the homeless but for the employee that helps create your wealth, that scrapes by everyday to make ends meet.

That wonders if they'll be able to buy s place to move out of their parents home or to have to move I. To their parents home or have to ask their kid to forgo college or that family vacation

It's so easy to wear blinders when you forgot where you came from.

Seems like alot of uppers and CEO need a little humility in their lives to reconnect to us the employee.

I think all you posters are being too hard on our CEO. I heard he is very troubled by all the layoffs under his watch. So much so that he regularly has to go down to his home on the Cape to play some golf and relax along the sea shore.

Let's all work together folks.

This job love it or hate it dread it or fear it is your job.

We are at the mercy of a CEO that cares zero about you personally you are a number and your personal hardships are not on his radar.

His grossly bloated over indulgent salary is buoyed by Layoffs because the Wall Street analysts love it and CEO salary tied to stock.

We need a paradigm shift in corporate America that I was hoping the new potus would have some influence to help us, it seems all the other corporations in America are stkeast trying except for state street.

Have you noticed he is completely off the radar?

You can hear from CITI Goldman all sorts of corporations intel ford Harley Davidson but never ever state street.

His silence speaks volumes!

We need to speak up we need the local media to get back on this story.

There are some desperate mentally overwhelmed former employees on this webpage. Posting fake news and making up gossip. Yes, there are layoffs and you already must have noticed the DATE last Wednesdays of almost every month... Seems it is the norm at State Street maybe even it is in one of HR's standard operating procedures... It does alienate employees and destroys morale but seems upper management does not care. They get their millions dollar bonuses and hurt many lower level employees with no raise and insultingly low bonuses.

It also shows managements dishonesty when SS gets millions of dollars in fines for past evens (Billing and Transfer agency etc..) and they cut bonuses significantly for lower level employees but executives still get their millions.

Thanks I have been looking into advancing some of my skills for data and analytics too again no guarantee.

Atleast I'll know I'm trying.

It's very unfortunate that STT doesn't truly value their employees on all fronts, I think that is half the battle with job satisfaction and even job security.

When you're deemed just a cog so blatantly it stings a little more than how other friends feel at their jobs.

This chronic and constant threat of layoffs is demoralizing to live with daily.

Then to see his outrageous salary based on stock performance only, well that's just the salt into the wounds.

Obtaining an advance degree is always a good idea but definitely doesn't guarantee anything and isn't always possible. I would suggest taking the series exams that don't require sponsorship and include these on your updated resume. It can't hurt and may lead to a new opportunity and give you the chance to gain some other experiences that you can include on your resume and expand your knowledge of the financial services industry.
