Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

GM or JG1 or JG2- one of these groups needs to go and one to lean out radically

Lets be honest still top heavy. Where is the fat and where is the best value to cut for short and long term

Total benefits are a liability to the balance sheet= more Shell service years you are at risk.

These are new target group as it offers the biggest impact to cost and while facilitating future talent to develop:

Currently too many top heavy JG groups are doing low level work with the strategy possession of work 9/10th of the law will keep them mid 2017 .. Note those days are over you're strategy is old school = you are done for not innovating a New protectionism strategy.

If your a lead JG2 and closer to you're end of work life = time to go your rate on value is done

If you're a manager JG1 with low SPS results and have. Not fully revamped your Org = you had your chance... time to go

If you're a GM not Integrating all functions into a PU = silo =gone.

Most importantly if you are not demonstrating your ability to develop people out of your fear = start looking outside for your next role .. you are blacked balled.

Your are being watched!

Long gone from Shell and I love it!! We don't have JGxx over here . We deal directly with the source and we get the job done and quick, no fat! Here I'm somebody and not just a number like in Shell. As long as people stay in Shell, they can see there are better jobs. Shell needs to learn from other energy companies

The whole thing about managers hiring family members and friends is true. Not only my manager, who walks the hallways all day long and does nothing all day, but 2 of his family members work at Shell too.!. When his kids get out of college, guess where they're going to apply? Conflict of interest

The new year will be the kickoff Fit for the Future = another round of cuts.

The only question - mass MoR or Controlled.

Controlled = gaming the system. Same old result

Am so glad to be retired from Shell; was a great 30 years in a variety of posts in the US and Europe; would hate to be working with most of the types who offer comments on this website. You guys purge all you want and thrash about at your hot desks trying to figure out who to blame for your inability to get ahead. How about a trophy for "I Participated!"? Your generation expects those, eh?

The purge is real... either you are in and part of the smokey room discussion or not

By the tone of your comment and your strong denial to the January cut ,1 word - Ciao

Must be difficult to accept you are redundant with all the power point competency you have

Post ID: @tvbw+KhmEIM1

The purge needs to be objective, a lot of these team leads and managers are protective one another. That is the trend i'm seeing at Shell . This is because the hiring targeted family, friends and even friends of friends - while bypassing HR and breaking rules of fairness and integrity protocols. One way around it is by surveying current and previous reports, have them assign an IPF to their current and ex managers based on what they have seen from them. I guarantee you that you'll run into surprises.Shell has a gangrene and it need to be extracted from the roots!

Self-directed teams don't work; people, as individuals, need to be incentivized to achieve goals set by leaders and in doing so, make their individual pathes forward. Those that don't remember the past are doomed to repeat the same mistakes. BTW This so-called January purge is BS false news. Suggest you complainers get back to grousing with your cube-mates about why any corporate system is so unfair. Or...go hire on as a fast food fry-team member where you all have the same abilities and skills and don't need direction from anyone who just might know a little more than you do.....the fry timer is never wrong....ding!....they're done! And so are you.

Its Mrs.

And good suggestion however a leaders mandate is to develop people and the output will be shareholder returns.

The purge at the top is about to begin, first at risk , those who have not pushed their people forward.

Making the org dependent on a centralized one person (team lead/manager) in principal was job preservation.

Actually this was the forbidden apple and now those who operated in this manner will be asked to leave the garden for good.

As a result, This time next year Shell will be fit for the future at all levels

Mr. "HR Poll your inout counts" this is a great statements, only if you stick to what you are trying to implement. Another suggestion is for an independent group to asses employees performance and fairness of assignments, especially in early career stages....you can't trust leads and advisors with this task, they are simply too busy with politics and don't really care about the future of Shell.

You complainers either need to buck up and make your way in a multinational or take your last big pay check and go buy a McDonalds franchise; a lot easier to blame your perceived plight on others than yourselves. Go ahead, stick to your beliefs about Shell, "every person above me in grade that's 10+ years older than I am is worthless and sabotages everything I do". Tell them that at the Shell exit interview while gearing up to asking your new customers "you want fries with that?". You have no f------ clue. Jeez, if you worked for me your a-- would hit the pavement tomorrow morning.

Enough with the comments as it does not demonstrate resiliency.

Yes the top layers are redundant but we earned our way there.

millennials are busy texting on their iPhones and they think that can take over. Think again

Deal with it nothing will change.

As the chap above mentions making your way up the chain in Shell requires skill.

Embrace the journey or go work for Google or Tesla.

Don't know about government but top layers are fat as a tiger not a cat.

Time to cut the excess on top

Besides manger vs lead vs GM in small assets there is hardly a visible difference the lines are blurred

Flatter org = set up for success for the rebound. You cant ride dead horses cut them hire grads cheaper and in the long run better for all

Post ID: @gjqr+KhmEIM1

Its a quasi government now.

Too many top layers and communication is not consistent that is the worst part

The old rules dont apply anymore as Shell needs to innovate its culture or lose the BG synergies it claims to shareholders.

BG was flatter

Look, it's not easy working anywhere today, or any day, in any country, and trying to do your best to get ahead. Every era has its challenges though I think two things are paramount: (1) do exemplary work, produce results - whatever that means in your area of Shell - and continue to show you are engaged and know what's needed; (2) stay connected with those in the Company that you need to get you to where you want to go, superiors, peers and subordinates; treat them with respect but realize politics, juggling loyalties are just part of working....wherever and for whomever you work; worked for me for 30 yrs at Shell. Stick it out, heads up and best of luck, a Shell Retiree.

You were lucky enough to get to the point where you could produce work that no one could dispute and i commend you for that! See, my problem is that when you are between a Brit who...hmmm, not sure how to describe and a Dutch guy that knew who to align with and who to bully, mix the two and good luck progressing with good quality work.People make the place they work at, no the other way around!

Post ID: @8mbn+KhmEIM1

You complainers, wow. Try getting promoted to a JG1/2 as a US citizen when your Brit ash boss doesn't like you and makes no bones about to your face.....I did, by producing results that no one could dispute; delivered year on year and those bass could not refute it, even in forced ranking. So, Shell's a great company, rewards handsomely, great benefits. Working a job isn't always fun and this Company is very anti-American. Do what you should do, be proud of yourself - deliver results that can't be denied - or F*** off and quit complaining about "mgmt".

A good Engineer is one that can connect up the dots and creates value of what he sees. You can not separate bussiness from solid technical work, these two go back to back.........but before you need to allow younger talents to get there, not younger friends and syblings.......at least we agree that this place should be run by Engineers that has integrity and moral responsbility.

Shell needs commercial acumen people in technical roles not tinker engineers disconnected from specifications is scope linked to cost.

The old culture does not get this they think things will pass

To the previous poster....Shell does not deserve better leaders. Shell is getting the type of leadership their senior leaders created with their dismal HR system, political correctness and inability to realize that people are more than just a cost. Unfortunately for stockholders the longer talented people are at Shell the more the want to get out.

The "next round" will top -down redundancy this is where the real waste is now.

Time to shape the future by getting rid of dead wood, walking zombies and only talking heads. (This is at the top of the chain not bottom)

A much flatter Org is a must especially for non hubs.

Thank them for their services proper and then cut the cord in the long run its better for both.

The issue is these people manipulate the system and form tribes to bully lower JGs into leaving or being perceived as low performers.

From what i hear Americas will feel it most.

Totally agree with you, I was dismissed after 3 years of complete frustration and dissapointment. I must admit it was the worse experience in my short professional time. One thing stroke me the most was the JG2/JG1 type of people that where disconnected from the lower JGs..... everyone was busy managing his "fate" at Shell and don't giving a crap kinda behavior toward others that are below....most of these people are there for the points and the package -no one cares about Shell and its future....so sad......Shell deserves better leaders
