Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Is there anything more grotesque and pathetic than "Senior Managers"?

Is there anything more grotesque and pathetic than the creatures Verizon calls "Senior Managers"? This elite group of scumbags are mostly made up of leftover people. They've aged their way to the top of the loser pile and literally don't ever want to move. They are the smelly pipe clog that ruins the organization.

We have sooo many directors that shouldn't be in that position because they cant do the job. I actually have a little bit of respect for someone who gets there because they separate themselves from the vile horde of senior managers. The senior managers are pitiful things because their complacency. They dont WANT to go any higher than they are so they have NO incentive to pressure the people above them. But they are truly disgusting because once they get in that spot they exert all energy on holding on to that seat by suppressing anyone who tries to take it. They will do everything they can to sabotage your career and undermine you. Once they identify you as a threat, you officially become their enemy.

They dont want to see you grow. They will not help you. You've got to stay put right where you are so they can keep their coveted spot. They are the main reason the organization is stuck. They are spineless. They dont have the guts to challenge Marni and her ilk so they eat their asses and smile and make sure you keep your distance. I cried tears of joy when they were all demoted because it upset them. The office redesign pleases me because I love to see them stressed and in a tizzy. They feel so vulnerable now and its great. The redesign is for senior managers specifically. When you get laid off there's not going to be any packing up... When they get laid off they literally don't know what to do with themselves because they thought they'd simply sit around like furniture until retirement. They don't want to DO anything. They just want to be furniture.

I cant wait for them to be put on the curb like old furniture on trash day. Enjoy it while it lasts senior managers :-)

and here we are 5 years later and there are still Senior Managers.

Frankly this post comes off as a jealous rant (also don't know why it was dug up after 5 years), but I happen to like my Senior Mgr and they do quite a lot to develop their team to enable them to seek new roles, if that's what they choose.

@6waz - Titles at Verizon are based simply upon gag-reflex. Those that practice not having gag-reflex are mostly likely to get promoted to Manager, AD, Director, ED, Sr. Mgr, etc.

Is this mostly a wireless thing? From what I've seen, when wireline adopted Sr Manager title, they used it to increase people's responsibility and direct reports, without moving them up a band level (directors in the past).

Someone said don't like it go leave. Yes indeed the turnover rate has been high lately. The best talent doesn't fit well in this place that doesn't value what is right. Words, no action, no sacrifice. Favoritism without genuine concern for the underlying principles of the going concern. Also Verizon is only one entity. Go beyond the bottom line and be a leader in the industry not against it.

You do not treat your employees as criminals and set them up. You do not do that! That is ILLEGAL. You mentor support give your employees wings so that when they go to their next job interview outside the company they are not beat up and confident. You have a fiduciary duty to all your stakeholders. Not just your own wallet and your own game of being rich

you said it yourself- "he wont make it". so what good is he to the greater good of the company? The problem is that none of them are willing to do what we need most-LEAD. Just a group of a-- licking yes men trying to keep themselves safe while the company burns. Their cowardice is unacceptable.

Talk about the generalization of the century OP. You would fit right in with the Hillary campaign!!

I also happen to have a Sr. Manager that is awesome and has done more for me and our team than any other boss - ever.

What is unfortunate is that he is exactly what this company needs but because he doesn't yell and scream at peopleach but instead teaches and inspires people - he won't make it.

I happen to respect my Senior Manager. No matter how many new projects he is thrown he always makes time to mentor and give me the support I need.

Do I think some out there are worthless? You bet, but not all out there are worthless.

Wow, I must be very fortunate. My Sr Manger is tough, but fair...and a good guy. He pushes for our group to get more optical and Ethernet work to keep us relevant, and knock on wood...it has worked so far.

As a senior manager this critique is tough to hear but necessary. The point about senior management not striving beyond their current role and the impact it has on movement throughout the organization is absolutely true. Its good to see your reflection from the other side. We have alot of work to do.

My sr manager is a loser who cant do anything so she spends her day smothering the rest of us and trying to make sure she has enough of our work to claim credit for in the managers meeting. she has gotten so pathetic that she wants me to CC her on every email I send.

I obliged her and made sure I CCed her on my next email to HR. I want to make sure she is a top candidate to pay tribute to the boxcart goods. Leadership knows where the problem is and we just have to point them out. Now that this b--ch knows what kind of person I am, she has backed off. HR called me and the rest of my team in in to ask how she has been counter productive to the business process and have asked us to reach out when she is abusing her position. Im 100% sure she is going to be part of the sacrifice. Do your part to help get the trash put on the curb.

Rise up!

Throughout recorded history, the only staying power of any form of government that benefited most of the people, was founded by white men of European extraction. The new arrivals are responsible for the mess that we have in society now. They are not as civic minded, nor donate as much of their own money to charity. Most have no real grasp of western civilization and therefore add little to our once great republic. The newcomers need welfare. The old comers needed boot straps.

1rit is one of those white males the company needs to keep an eye on. I love all he conveniently forgets the key difference when they were supposedly changing the world. Its called globalization..competition. Results show that the old timers cant handle it. Get out the way and let us millennial phags do what you cant. You will be moved. Pack your sh-- up.

lol if this is so true, why cant all you crusty phags deliver results? After youre laid off and unable to find work again, ill let you come to my house and lick the dik dribble off my 2 hounds for 5 bucks a pop. Thats my welfare to you friend.

1qqu - spoken like a true millennial phag who's never earned his keep a single day of his life. Technology grew at a faster rate than the gleam in your daddy's eye when he was making you. Now the change in technology has slowed in place of coding and hacks. And that is what your entire generation is, just a bunch of hacks. So I really don't' feel too bad for sticking you with all of the bills for your welfare state. You will never enjoy the life or triumphs that we have.

Senior managers and directors are being watched very closely because the executive level knows they are the problem. Hold strong and keep fighting the good fight. With all the new discoveries of fraud and cooked reporting they are very aware of who the weak links are.

The senior manager women are the worst. They are so intimidated by the younger women particularly. I see it on my own team and it makes me feel pretty bad. My sr manager undermines the two younger women by acting like a b--chy meddling mother when either of them should be managing her. I walked around the building today and saw all the box carts and smiled...they are almost gone :-)

We dont have to like it. And no, I wont be leaving. Senior management is going to leave and people like me are going to see to it. Managers are really delusional if they think people are going to keep losing jobs and money and not come after them.

B--ch please. They better heed the tone of these posts because people are fed up.
