Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Let's Be Honest Here...

We all know people are biased towards thinking themselves more valuable, capable and skilled than they actually are. Let's be honest here, upon close and candid self-examination, how many of you really can say with a straight face that you are/were truly indispensable to Intel or any employer? How many of you can really say that you have given more value than your total compensation package from your employer, that you've given more value than you've gotten? If you're truly honest with yourselves, out of 100 people, only 3% truly can answer any of the above with an affirmative response with a straight face and sleep well at night knowing it's true. The rest of you need to get over yourselves.

@JPsXjZ9-hvg I've always known I could make more money, but at my level I make plenty of money so the choice has much to do with where you live, what stage your spouse and kids are at. It is nice that you can make a choice in absence of just money. Money for me was something that pays for the things I enjoy and need, and Intel paid me plenty, now someone else pays me more, LOL

I actually am really enjoying my new life, you are right I should have left many years ago.

The good times are gone at Intel, the ship is sinking the smart ones should look and get off before the whole ship dives to the bottom, LOL

That's actually a very good question, @mmg. I'd think they should have tried that first and see where they ended up, THEN ACT. But in-between those 2 (or even first) would be BK & MCM taking a cut (and no raises) FIRST.

rE: Apparently Intel is still hiring briskly, just at a lower compensation level. @bgi

And lower experience level as well.

To Intel long timers who got another higher paying job after VSP/ISP, why can't you just admit that you were too dumb to notice that you were underpaid all of those years? Don't blame Intel that you lost out on the compensation you deserved for all of those years!

Nobody is truely indespensible, but the larger question was ACT required as the solution to the real problem or was something else. I saw it as a symbolic and easy what for management to appear to be making hard and required decisions to turn around the company. Blind layoffs are actually very easy to do and require no intelligence and it is no wonder why BK took that route.

The collateral damage to Intel was they lost a lot of good people they likely should have kept. Most damaging they destroyed the trust of everyone there who see the insanity of the way they lost good people and how they treated them on the way out and all the VSP encouragement says a lot about the culture at the top.

Now was I worthy my pay? I got an offer for every company I interviewed and was offered up to 30% more from several very good IMHO better companies.

So to my boss and bosses boss who approved my first L4 in 20 years, phuck you

I can confidently say that Intel will not be capable of accomplishing what it hopes (-ed) to accomplish before ISP'ing me (S/SL4 for "being new to Intel") and the handful of outside, senior external people it hired with me.

Since my departure, ERP of a couple of key people and resignation without package of a couple of others, the group that I was in has been re-organized, down-scaled in mission and, I would bet, disbanded soon.

I can't really provide much more detail but suffice it to say that every other major tech company has and is investing heavily in this area...as did Intel...briefly...before running all of the "A" players off (to those other tech companies and SI's), making external commitments it hasn't kept and otherwise wasting loads of cash while squandering the brand and accomplishing nothing.

Who's left? Well, the same career-Intel back-stabbing schmedlaps who know nothing and haven't talked to a real customer in years but are "excellent" at filling out powerpoint "foils" (I hate that phrase) with the stuff that clue-less higher-ups like Bryant and BK want to see. They'll all declare victory on their FOCALs, do something else in Intel for a few years, convince some other VP that they know what they're doing, waste more money. Rinse, cycle, repeat.

I would have taken a pay cut versus being ISPed. Why wasn't that an option?

I took ERP because I was well aware that I was in a very much nonessential role that could go away any time. I did not delude myself at all on that front. Having seen other old-folks purges in the past, I was also aware that ACT was only partially about total headcount but also about getting rid of senior (and thus more highly compensated) employees who had clawed their way up the salary or grade ladder over the years. My old job is now handled by last year's intern (well, at best she's keeping the seat warm as the function fades away). Another ex-colleague of mine (ISP'd) just had her job advertised as 'entry level' and sure enough they hired an RCG. Apparently Intel is still hiring briskly, just at a lower compensation level.

"how many of you really can say with a straight face that you are/were truly indispensable"

I would say it with a straight face but currently I'm in one of Intel's trannie restrooms.
