Thread regarding ITT Educational Services Inc. layoffs

My Students Want ITT to Stay Open!

Many of my students have been asking what can they do to help keep our campus open. They mentioned calling their VA Reps, contacting Senators, writing letters to the DoE, contacting the media, and having fund raisers! They also expressed they are free individuals but they are being denied the opportunity to attend the college of their choice! They are angry that their freedom is being taken away by what the DoE is doing! My students love our campus!

Who promised you you'd be making $50,000 a year out of school? That was not the ITT I knew.

The point is, they are pulled in to a system that is broken and they don't even know it. I graduated in 2011 with the promise that I will be making $50,000 a year right out of school. The truth is, the school never assisted me in finding a job. I called career services 3 times a week with absolutely no results. I finally got a job in my field after about 4 months out of school. The first interview I went to, the interviewer said they don't normally hire people from ITT because they lack the practical skills to support their positions. Here it is 5 years later, and I finally got a job over $50,000 a year, but I did this on my own and got the job based off of my experience.

They won't be thinking that when they can't find a job with their toilet paper degree and are working two jobs to just try and cover the interest on their student loans.

What do you teach? Drama?

Teach out will allow them to graduate. Move on.

Thousands and thousands of students and faculty have been "calling their VA Reps, contacting Senators, writing letters to the DoE, contacting the media" for several years....and now you are finally seeing the results of their pleas. ITT did absolutely nothing to get serious about addressing these real issues. They were extremely busy looking under bridges, in boxes and halfway houses for more sources of revenue.

Instead of firing the vast majority of their full time faculty and most of their chairs they could have focused on addressing the needs of their enrolled students. If you worked there, you already know this.

I'm sure they do, those $1400 payments in a couple months are going to destroy every dream they ever had.

This is not fair to the students who are FREELY choosing to keep coming to campus day after day

...well they are somewhat held hostage by $40000 invested, or being called relentlessly to enroll or reenter. I doubt they are heartbroken, maybe you should take a look at some of the postings

Yes, I realize there is an agenda. My students are heart broken! My students had to hear about this decision of the DoE during their Final Exams. It's sickening that this is happening to them. Their lives are already stressful and this is hurting them! Does anyone out there CARE???? Do You Care? This is not fair to the students who are FREELY choosing to keep coming to campus day after day! They want their degrees!
