From a direct source, Andover site is currently under review for data collection at Meg Whitman's request to "set an example". All VPN activity (when engaged on company time); website activity; log in activity; badge swipes correlated to this data; and daily seating checks. There is an effort to clear out Massachusett headcount, and this will be used to manage those numbers. The data collection began August 1. Good luck.

It makes sense if you think about it. You have two people with similar slightly subpar performance history, one is always there during attendance checks and only uses VPN after hours. The other uses VPN 5 or 6 hours per day and is rarely in the office.
It's sh--ty but makes sense if you're Meg Whitman and must lay someone off/drain their lifeforce.
It is done because for some accounting need to have occupancy high in their buildings. I guess high numbers doing the vpn thing and empty buildings is bad.
Why in the world would HPE want to start tracking all this data? To fire people? To have people at their desks like slaves? I don't know, guys... I agree with @1sje... If they want to fire or WFR people, they can do it very easily without the need to go through this "exercise". They don't really need that kind of backup data to kick people out. If Granny's intention would be to "increase productivity", how would they establish metrics to monitor performance? How will they approach people that don't meet the "minimum" acceptable standards? Bah, the more I think about it, the more dumb it sounds. I don't doubt they would gather the data... What I doubt is the kind of use for it implied by some people here.
It is definitely being done at Andover. I know this unquestionably. If you work in Andover, be at your desk.
Daily seating check is literally someone taking attendance - better be sitting at that desk by 9 (see? That's more generous than 8 - Meg)

Actually, all that information has been logged for years. It's part of normal IT security practices. I have a few friends who work in infrastructure teams, and they haven't heard about any request to gather and analyze that type of data at a mass level. They have received multiple requests to track individual users when they suspect a violation to the standards of business conduct. If you think about it, the amount of data and the effort to make use of all that data through intelligent reports would be a gigantic task. I don't think HPE has the resources (or would get an acceptable ROI) by embarking in such daunting task. If they would like to get rid of people, they can easily do it through other ways less costly.
Colorado has been doing the seating checks for quite a while. I dunno about data usage or the vpn thing.
