Thread regarding DeVry Inc. layoffs

Camden Kid needs to bring a solution

Camden,

How come you haven't written the university your idea of making it a better place for students? Finger point and make acuasations is easy. A monkey can do it. Where is YOUR leadership and how come YOU haven't given solutions to Devry to be a better school? Pointing the finger is easy Camden, you know that. Finding a solution and working with an organization is the hard part and I just see YOU CAMDEN taking the easy way.

Yep. Raising our concerns to management gets us to one of two places: 1) absolutely nowhere, or 2) called into someone's office to talk about our attitude.

I work in a different facet of the organization. Here they have changed some major processes that has made us more factory-like and less student friendly. And student dissatisfaction is already showing. We are changing processes because a few didn't want to be bothered with an extra step that would actually make sure what we were doing and sending to students was correct and trackable in case there were issues or questions. When several of us brought up the issues and problems that we will come across (and these issues have already started since the changes) we were "being negative" and "not open to change." I have heard literally "let's try this" to something we already tried and it had bad results. It's like we are moving backwards to repeat the same mistakes because apparently one time wasn't enough.

Management just does not get it, most can't even do the processes or answer the easiest questions about it. But God forbid they ask us peons any questions about the processes or ask opinions before making sweeping changes that will cause more harm than good. It's almost like you want to grab their shoulders and whisper STOP AND THINK.

So basically to the individual who keeps babbling about "bring it up to management and stop whining," we have REPEATEDLY. Management doesn't want to hear anything but clapping for their bad and/or mediocre ideas. So from us who have repeatedly tried to bring up problems and solutions only to be totally ignored, you can take your suggestion and shove it. Take a reality pill and join the rest of us who see the downhill slide on a daily basis.

@IF3ODee-3jea is right, more now than ever, and there's even more to it than that. My coworkers and I were talking today about the new phone system, where students can call anytime and get automatically routed to any available SSA or OSC in the country. Management is celebrating how this increases the percentage of calls that actually get picked up. Meanwhile students are getting agitated because they never talk to the same person twice, get bounced all around the country before they reach the person they actually want to speak with, and feel like they're being treated like a number. The days of personal service and customer relationships are gone, students hate the way they're being handled, and we at the campus level can't do anything about it. We try to explain the problem to management, but it falls on deaf ears. We're so far below anyone with the authority to change anything that we don't even have a voice.

I'm not the first to mention that it feels like our concern for students goes against the company's direction.

I worked at DeVry years ago. They had their favorite employees like most companies. No sense in making suggestions of any kind if you were not "in" the circle.

@IF3ODee-2sen, marketing has a great deal to do with higher education. It's all part of the US College Meltdown.

As for calling Devry, Devry executives monitor the site. They can find me. But what they really need to do is listen their instructors and staff, and not be bothered by their constructive criticism.

Please write to me at dahneshaulis@gmail.com. You can do it anonymously.

Camden, you hide in the shadows. Pick up the phone, call devry and share your wisdom or are you a coward???? Marketing has nothing to do with the quality of the education, I think devry has fixed the marketing part. Now stop being a baby and start offering solutions. Don't force me to change your diapers.

@IF3ODee-iyz, that's not the way it works.

Devry workers have direct information about what's happening and they are the ones who need to talk to their supervisors. If workers cannot get satisfactory remedies from Devry officials, they need to report the issues to agencies.

If they are afraid of their supervisors and chain of command, they can email me--anonymously if they need to.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) lawsuit against Devry is compelling.

FYI: When I encountered Devry's misleading sales pitches in 2014, I confronted the enrollment rep and notified people in my chain of command.

So then Camden, why haven't you contacted them? And also the corruption so deep comment you made is false. Just because the FTC investigates and sues someone that doesn't mean the entity as a whole is corrupt or that it's deep. That's not a true nor a fair statement. It's like saying Google and Apple and Berkshire Hathaway are all corrupt because they were sued by the FTC. And yes you can link and speak of these companies in the same sentence, it's the act of the FTC that allows us to not the company itself.

@Camden killer, the solutions should have come, at least partially, from within. People who wanted to make a difference have been forced out or quit.

I'm not sure what you do when you have a culture of corruption as deep as it is. And the culture of silence has made positive change extremely difficult.

I suppose the first step is to honestly desire for a quality technical school that respects and serves all of its students, former students, alumni, teachers, staff, and communities.

Wouldn't matter if you did offer solutions they are not open too it have you not read these posts??? It's a cluster f--- and speak up your told this is how it is and you are being negative. You are not to speak negatively about anything and the training is escalating. It's obvious they have a plan but not letting the employees in on it. There is absolutely no way this will work and they don't care about quality no one is checking the work. All I can say is students wil be furious and leaving in droves. Chamberlain university will be opening in October this should be interesting.

This is hilarious. You are calling out someone else yet not offering any suggestions of your own. Stop being a lazy a-- and do your own thinking. We are waiting for your suggestions, oh wise one.

Butthurt trolls are the worst.
