Thread regarding Anadarko Petroleum Corp. layoffs

What is the overall feeling at the Denver office? Optimistic? Anxious? I know many people there and wish everyone the best.

On those sleepless nights out in CA, I hope Big AL checks out these discussion threads and get a glimpse of the results of his decision. Don't get ulcers and try to get some sleep preparing for the next round.

There are pros and cons to living in Colorado and Texas (apples and oranges). They won't close the Denver office due to Wattenberg, it's their "Cash Cow" and they can't run it out of a "field" office, they need the expertise of the Geoscientists/Explorationists. Yeah, you could do some of that out of the Houston office but that would inefficient. Big Al said, No More Layoffs, don't think he could take it, said he couldn't sleep so it did affect him. Boo "F-in' Hoo some would probably say, but at least he showed concern at the Towne Hall meeting after the Event. Stop bashing each other, grow up and get along. What's up with all the discord between the offices. They are both necessary. Never have seen this at any other company that had Denver and Houston offices. Work together people and Best of Luck to the folks who were laid off. For those of you who brag about your package on this site....probably mean you have a "small package" in reality (hehe) Enjoy!

Texas or Colorado is really a personal preference. I have lived in Texas all my life, and have done pretty well. I still have not seen the whole state, and I have met a lot of highly educated people here. A lot of engineers and geos from UT and AM just to name a few. Rice has also put out some great MBA folks. UH has some of the best Geoscience professors, and Tech has some good land people. One could say the same about Oklahoma, and La. LSU, etc.

Colorado is a great place as well, and to look out at the mountains is a blessing. The cool weather and outdoor life is second to none. Plus, Colorado has the CSM, and some other great educational institutes as well. I would like to live in Colorado just to take advantage of the outdoors.

The bottom line is that Houston is the hub of US oil and gas. When times are good companies can afford offices across the USA. When times are bad things move back to Houston. I guess many of you would rather be out of work oil people than work in Houston. That is really a shallow train of thought. Most of the people who make the decisions are in Houston. Would you really give up a paycheck, insurance, and a career to stay in Colorado? If so, good luck and leave the jobs in Texas. APC will never move the corp office to Denver or anywhwere else. The leaders of APC could care less what you think of Texas, and will leave your assright there, if given the chance. Would you rather have six months of severance, or a career in Houston that could eventually take you back tom Denver. All this bad mouthing of Texas might just get all of you just that. Both places are great, so show some class.

If you don't want us in Colorado we sure as hell don't want you here!

Big AL doesn't live in Denver. He lives in L.A. and commutes to Houston for meetings on his own corporate jet. He has a "modest" apartment in the River Oaks to stay in when he's in town:

WALKER R A

2121 KIRBY DR

APT 9SWA

HOUSTON, TX 77019

3 beds 4.5 baths 5,505 sqft

Zestimate: $2,387,753

What a bunch of idiots bashing Texas, you don't know jack. Denver office is not needed, did not have it before the merger don't need it now. Houston is the hub for O&G, so keep your assin Denver. And the comments about Al not living here, don't think he lives in Denver either. Get a life and maybe a job.

This is too funny, pick up the pieces and move on.

What we should do is start some form of company ourselves maybe not in oil and gas but hey

Franchises, apartment complexes, stock trading, we have the expertise why not use what we have anyone interested, or have any other ideas.

It's time to stop the regional tribalism and racist comments. Face the facts, based on personal biases anyone can post a list of likes and dislikes about either Texas or Colorado (or anywhere else). Yes, it feels good to vent, but that doesn't change the current state of the industry and it's not why people are posting here. The real reason is because people are worried about their jobs. So stop blaming each other for this industry wide downturn. If you must blame someone look to management, after all they happily took the bonuses yet failed to plan for the current environment.

APC would be inefficient to shut down Denver because it needs to monetize the great-deal UP Strip acreage. Professionals are lower cost in Denver because people want to live there. And if they shut down the Denver Office, most will stay. New companies will grow from the refugees. This is good news for Texas and Oklahoma as they love to dump professionals here.

The real battle here is over who gets to control the development means: The Woodlands vs Denver. Innovation (CO) vs Power (TX). It appears some think Denver does not deserve to survive because pot has become legal and we've been Californicated by the urban left of California, Illinois, and New York. The fat dogs in TX who don't have to scrap for anything are counting on the religious right to make the right decision.

If APC really wants to change things, they should oust their board and top executives for not being able to even come close to predicting the future. Jobs and reputations should be lost here. Don't bet on it though. The good-old-boys club is live and well.

You idiot. Denver is not the only city that collects homeless people and drops them off at homeless shelters. Those people would freeze to death if they stayed outside the entire night, especially during sub-zero temperatures, unlike Houston, Texas (you moron). Thank God I don't live in Texas...

This is hilarious!

You idiot. Denver PD collects homeless people so they don't freeze to death in the winter months. They transport them to homeless shelters and/or churches so they can sleep in relative warmth and get fed.

Thus explains the reason why the Denver office gets flooded with resumes from the Woodlands office for open positions.

Houston sucks which is why APC employees from there want to move to Colorado. Plain and simple. They know it and so do we. Seriously, I would never move to Houston, Texas...why would anyone move there??

During my tenure at APC, I can tell you there is a very definite bias that the Texas folks have against Denver or any other place they call "the field" One of the greatest mistakes APC ever made was having people in field offices report to managers in The Woodlands. While I agree with that structure, the existing APC culture wasn't ready for that and those managers definitely targeted anyone that wasn't part of their local Texas crowd....I'm surprised there hasn't been more discrimination lawsuits, or maybe I just don't know about them.

You only have to look at this thread to see that it's true, except in this thread, there's a big backlash retaliation against Texans.....Appears I don't have to say much to prove my point.

As far as homeless in Denver, it is a recent epidemic, worse than in the past. There's a large influx of homeless coming to Denver. Most of them don't want help or shelter, they're happy living on the street and stay there until the police remove them. Many say this is because of legal weed.

These days and times if you have an oil and gas job take it where you can get it. Texas is not as bad as you think, so don't be too harsh on your next place to live. The Denver office is an expense when they have empty space in The Woodlands. The Woodlands is the corporate home, and has been for a long time.

On a side note. I was in downtown Denver a few years back around Christmas. As I had coffee at the hotel I noticed cops picking up homeless people and putting them in a Police Van. After asking around I was told they were cleaning up the streets for the parade that afternoon. They did not want a lot of homeless people messing up the parade. That really told me a lot about the compassion of Denver in general. Seems they packed them in the van and took them up to Boulder or another outlying town to let them fend for themselves up there. Class act Denver!

OMG, I thought it was just me. Yes they are very different, I recall I was at a bar and this guy tried to talk to me he was wearing wrangler jeans with this abnormal size belt buckle, and cheap boots, I don't understand the boots thing. Is it like a rodeo every month? Bottom line skip Texas, skip it skip it skip it. I only advise visiting Tx only if you want the best laugh of your life.

Listen to me, there is nothing in Texas but rednecks that have an online degree, with debt up to thier eyes, its a joke of all jokes, i lived in the woodlands in 1995-2007 its was amazing, but now a nunch of fake white trash people pretending to be wealthy or rich, mexicans have moved in all over houston its sick and they have the nerve to have an attitude, the blacks live on the other side of town and thats good for them if you see them out there then they pretty much have the money or there married to a white man or white woman, You can weed from the mexicans when you go out to eat, change careers make Texas your last stop these idiots are about the dumbest people i have ever met almost like a western show its a joke. They have no cattle, no horses, own no land but they prance around in big trucks and cheap 150.00 boots, living in homes they cannot afford. white people in texas are an embarassment to our race. They would like to sound country but sound ignorant and silly. Texas is the new Mexico taco stands everywhere, flea markets everywhere, and dont get caught in the woodlands i have never seen so many fake people pretending to be rich and they pay with 6 and seven credit cards until one is accepted its sad.

Have fun getting a job in Denver after APC closes that office. Colorado is a nice state, but to knock Texas just is not right. We have some great places as well. If APC closes the Denver office you don't have to come to Texas, if you don't want. Hopefully you not coming will open a job for a Texan. Also, check your engineers and see how many have degrees from Texas. I think you would be surprised at our home grown talent pool. Be glad they are there to help and guide your efforts.

Meanwhile those ignorant, Texas rednecks spend thousands of dollars on Colorado skiing trips then fly back to Houston and post pictures of themselves on Facebook with cheesy smiles and maxed out credit cards. Please, for the Coloradoans living here, keep your redneck selves in Texas.

The Woodlands is not a bad place to live. There are no majestic mountains or legal weed, but it is clean and a good place to raise a family. When you say "Crappy Texas" it just makes everyone down here hope you get the boot. As in past bust Denver office closures happen. In good times companies can afford to have an office in liberal Denver. If you bring your pot to Montgomery County get ready to spend time behind bars. Now I bet that stops about half of you from ever thinking about a job in Texas. You can still buy your weed down here, but it just won't be as easy to take a seat on a curb in downtown and smoke a joint. I hope you all stay right there and never have to come to Texas with your smart a$$ attitudes. Bunch of babies that need something to suck on!!
