Thread regarding DeVry Inc. layoffs

Admission Advisor for almost 3 years and it's the McDonald's of Universities.

CONSTANT Scare tactics by management to produce students or get fired. Bottom off the barrel & low income students were the target because no informed individual would spend 70K on an unrespected degree. I would sign students up who could barely complete 8th grade level math. I needed the paycheck so I lied to myself about the quality of education but I knew deep down it was garbage.

I would have to guess that out of the MANY students I signed to the University, 10% actually made it through or graduated. The rest were likely stuck with over 30K+ in debt for the rest of their life(23K a year) and will NEVER be able to recover, buy a home, get a credit card, go back to another school. "DeVry University, a for-profit institution, ranked No. 4 on the list, with its students' debt at $8.2 billion in 2014."

Annual layoffs were expected between the months of May-August. They would fire employees that were due for raises because of "budget cuts" and rehire for the SAME position 6 months later for a quarter less. They have followed this model for several years and will continue until the "university" is shut down by the gov't.

I left and never looked back to the for-profit bloodsucking sector of "education" again. Was so hard for me to get another job because no employer respected someone with Devry on their resume.

Brian Rule isn't fat, he is just obese! How come those yokels are still here! Devry needs a refund from those two clowns!

I say fire Brandon Ohms and Brian the fat weasel tool Rule! Devry has too many idiots at the helm. Let these two jokers go bye bye and things will be better. All I see Brandon olhms do is just walk around and try to look important. And Rule is just a female diva with man boobs.

So I was a long term admissions advisor and ADA. One of DeVry's 'best' sales tactic is 'the hurt and rescue.

What is the hurt and rescue? It's a technique where you make the prospective student feel so bad about their current situations (no job, low income, no degree, etc.). Then speak to how a DeVry education will help save the day. Seriously..... We were told to promote 90/40. 90% of DeVry grads receive jobs within 6 months with starting salaries over 40k. What we didn't tell students were that this included students who already had jobs, took out students who DeVry felt dos not 'actively' participate in career search and counted jobs making 20k (secretary, security guards and more) as successful placements

I could go on and on but just thinking back to the sleazy techniques that DeVry made us employ make me sick.

I have seen students come in for assessments and they did not know how to use a computer. They assumed they were writing with pencil and paper. The advisors do not care about what type of students they admit because of the pressure to meet budget. There are students with $8,000 balances from previously attending DeVry, and were encouraged to come back by DEM management and then try to figure out the finance part later.

Difference in those places though is that they get a quality product or education in the end. Not some overpriced mediocre "education" and I can see how the original poster is right about accepting those with very lowell test scores or education. I have also heard and seen the desperation from admissions advisers who keep pushing students through the registration process sometimes even after the first class has already had assignments due. Nothing like setting the student up to fail from the start....that's a quality school right there.

Umm, I think every company in the world takes calls from prospective customers. Nothing different than Northwestern or Illinois or Apple or Google. And holy crap, the actually held you accountable for doing your job and performance! Holy cow those bad people! How dare they! I thought you were ENTITLED to just sit there and do nothing and get a paycheck and benefits!! The nerve of them trying to make you work!

@HOqYPIa-2eji, maybe they don't "code call" but they do take calls from people who saw an advertisment on tv.

Your not an admissions advisor. Just some yokel posting already known numbers. Targeted people with 8th grade math skills? How do they get that info? Furthermore the University gets inquiries from people wanting to go back or attend school idiot!! You make it seem like they code call people out of the phone book....stupid stupid stupid
