@HDt0Pga-4qpx No joke! Even the full time faculty at my location don't know yet what they'll be teaching one month from now because enrollments are so low for July session. We can guess at which classes will run and which will cancel, but we won't know for sure until the cancellation deadline comes. Based on the latest enrollment report from this morning, about half of our classes are likely to be cancelled due to low enrollment, so for the students who did register, their planning goes right down the toilet and it's not even their fault.

Mr. or Ms. "DV insider" forgot to mention the bigger problem with trying to plan ahead...cancellations!!! My spouse is a visiting professor for DeVry, but we can't count on that income because they cancel so many classes every session. The students can't count on any of their classes going through and my family can't count on the paycheck.

He said long term planning isnt possible. Planning one session in advance isnt what i'd call long term.

Work and planning expert you are a total moron! You mean to tell me students can't take 3 courses in a session or 6 in a semester? YES THEY CAN! You are an idiot! Another excuse maker.

I have been a longtime lurker on this site, but as a DV insider I feel I should weigh in on the "work and planning" comment. The unfortunate truth is that planning really isn't an option for our students. The student support advisers only have course listings for two sessions into the future, and campuses are pressured to accept the schedule as it is given. This means long term planning is not possible and the pressure of the adoption rate metric means that classes cannot just be added as needed, so it is pretty much a matter of luck that students get the classes they need when they need them. The automated scheduler is improving as students are registering earlier, but it chooses classes based on the greatest need which leaves some students by the wayside even if they do everything right. We get a lot of complaints but we chalk it up to growing pains and the price of progress.

The solutions to these problems so far have been to waive prerequisites or suggest that the student take a similar course elsewhere and then transfer it in. These are not good solutions but if we don't do something then students would lose their financial aid which is bad for all of us. Financial aid is priority #1. No margin no mission, as they say.

No we work for a living around here. We create and build things. We don't make excuses and cry like little babies. Blaming everyone else for our troubles in life. Look in the mirror for that one!

How do they have students multiple students graduating under 3 years? It's called work and planning. Listen to yourself! They were told they would have the flexibility to go onsite and online. But they can only do it for some courses. Umm I'd say that's flexibility. Any time you use the word can or could means it was offered and the students have the ability to. Do you know how many students drop classes? Those are the same students that are complaining that they cannot graduate in the time they were told. Well gee I wonder why. And guess what, do you even know the methodology used for the placements? Do you know where they get the information from? THE STUDENTS! Surveys go out and students answer whether or not they are employed and how much they make and where they work. So come back with a better method to measure this. I challenge you

@HDt0Pga-2rme, you make a very valid point and I agree with you, but job placement is only part of the problem. Just one tiny piece of a 1000 piece puzzle. The problem extends to those who did find work but didn't get the +15% salary that DeVry's advertisements claimed. It also extends to the numerous lies that prospective students were told in the admissions process. They were told about flexible scheduling and the option to take courses online or onsite, but quickly discovered that this choice only exists for a few specific courses. They were promised that the degrees could be completed in under four years, and then discovered that courses they need are rarely offered and therefore greatly delay their progress. DeVry's lies are in layers upon layers -- lies to the public, lies to investors, lies to students, lies to employees...there appears to be no end to the lies.

@HDt0Pga-2rme, as you state, "you reap what you sow." And "techniques of neutralization" will only get you so far........................................................... https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/devry-headed-wrong-direction-dahn-shaulis?trk=mp-author-card

If someone screws up an interview is it the schools fault? If someone got all C's and D's but graduated and can't get a job is it the schools fault? We all want justice served. So how do we penalize the person who withdrew from most classes, borrowed all their student loan money and just used that money to party? How do we punish the moron who enrolls in online classes without a computer or who isn't computer saaavy. What about the person who cannot write a resume or interview well it doesn't try to find a job bc that would require them to actually do work, how do we penalize these people????? School can only harm or do so much, we live in America, you reap what you sow. If we give student loan money back then what about the morons that took advantage of the program, the system, the ones who just live off their refund check and don't work hard in school? I say we penalize them because they are polluting the earth. So organize let's punish the school because you can't get a job! Do you want them to interview for you? Do you want them to study for you and just give you answers for every test? Grow up! Start working hard and maybe something good will happen to you!

@HDt0Pga-1qvu, you can send anonymous emails to me (there are several anonymous email systems on the internet). In the meantime, ensure that you are documenting any activity that is illegal or unethical--along with your response. You can use those documents when they start firing in larger numbers. In the meantime, try to be as ethical as possible and tell your peers to do the same. Otherwise, Devry will end up like Corinthian Colleges and Education Management Corporation. You may also want to talk to a union like SEIU about organizing--if it's not too late. It's a gamble, but it's also illegal to fire someone for trying to organize.

I am a DeVry employee and I would join to help out except that I must remain anonymous for now. I can't risk being associated with something like that. Nevertheless, I wish them all the luck in the world. I am glad to see someone taking a stand in defense of students. I hope they organize worldwide and find the justice they deserve.

The group is working to get successfully win "defense to repayment" for student loans, and to expose unethical actions by Devry employees. Blow the whistle and you can be part of the group. My email is above.
