Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Hiring freeze?

Just heard one of the manager talking on the phone. "Your interview is cancelled, because we are kind of on a hiring freeze. But you still can come to Portland, your hotel and car are paid for. But we won't be conducting interview".

"@1ig, I am 1xrq from below. I am yet to meet a technical woman who likes the diversity program or benefited from it, at least the way it is being done. It is hurting them."

You're missing the point. If BK, Murthy or anyone at Intel in leadership truly cared about diversity or employees, the program would be very different than it is.

The program is all about the numbers and that's how BK's fab manager lizard brain works: make the numbers or else. So managers down the line try to make the numbers.

Ironically, BK isn't even successful going through the motions of caring about diversity...

I was an intern in a team at intel. Was interviewed by another team for the job in march-16. Again in June -16. I was told by the manager that they have decided to make an offer and we're getting the same ready a week after. But suddenly they said there were strict hiring freeze and the process was stopped. I have been contacting manager from 3 months. There is still hiring freeze going on acc to him. So should I keep my hopes up still? Any improvement expected?

Hello everyone, i have a kind of similar question i had interview at Intel about 8 weeks ago and i got an email saying that they have hiring freeze. They did say to me that the interview went well and that they will let me know as soon as they have any updates.

I am just wondering should i give up on that (even tho i really like the position) , are they just keeping their options open? I mean if they didn't want me they would have told me so. I am really confused and i would so grateful for any advice.

Intel is in a full hiring freeze ATM.

I interviewed at intel ~ 3 weeks ago, went very well and about 2 weeks ago was told they were preparing an offer. Then it was 'delayed' because of the layoffs but it was re-confirmed they wanted to give me an offer....then a week or so later i was told they were in a full hiring freeze and they couldn't give me an offer. I was told that i would hear from them later when they start hiring again.

Pretty negative/screwed around experience though, considering it was my first technical interview series ever and it went so well initially :(

@1ig, I am 1xrq from below. I am yet to meet a technical woman who likes the diversity program or benefited from it, at least the way it is being done. It is hurting them. I was called to diversity related meetings (along with other technical females) and I have repeated this time and again. I have told this to my manager. I have asked them to change the way diversity program is being done. I have asked them to open that meeting to everyone so that there is no mystery surrounding it. Discrimination against women starts when they get pregnant and just continues for a long time that they get tired and leave. I have asked them to take specific actions here to level the playing field here. Many women who take maternity leave get penalized very badly. They don't get good assignments when they come back because their managers don't trust them. They have to work harder just to prove that they are still as committed to their jobs as before. Some women want part time schedule and willing to take the salary cut but they don't get that either. I have asked them to design programs which are open to everyone so that if men need them, they can use it. For example, get the focal of people who have taken sabbaticals, bonding leave, maternity leave, FMLA by another manager so that they are not penalized. I have asked to train managers to have an open discussion with people who have children about the workload expectation and formalize the arrangement irrespective of whether it is a man or a woman. I have asked to enhance remote working capabilities (especially for people who work in the lab) so that it gives them flexibility to work any time. That is how far my reach is, not far enough to make meaningful change.

@1xrq I agree. Diversity is demeaning to women and minorities because it says that you can't get in on your own merit so we'll lower the bar for you.

Thing is, all I see are people happy to take it and praise the program. Not one woman or minority (that I've seen) has spoken out against it using your (correct) argument. So excuse me while I disagree with you and say that, yes, they're getting a very favorable deal and most seem to love it.

We recently learned that in France, hiring and buildings move were frozen since mid February

What is all this rant about technical females? If you think they are getting a favourable deal, then I pity your ignorance. All diversity program has done is it created a hostile environment for women and under represented minorities. Now they work as hard or harder than men and any credit they get for their work is attributed to them being women..

Don't worry dude. If you're young and cheap they still want you to take my job. Especially if you're the right ethnicity or a technical female. Give it 2 weeks.

Hang tight! The job will open again in a few weeks. That's just the way it works when layoffs are happening.
