Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

motivation & personal responsibility

After today's BUM we're expecting some mix of VSP, performance cuts, and cuts from closure of relatively small satellite offices. To those who want VSP... golf clap, you've worked hard, enjoy the time freedom. To those who are separating due to lackluster performance... this is a new chapter, you can find work that is a more authentic expression of your unique capabilities (not saying that jumping to a new industry is easy or comfortable). For those that remain, hopefully MBOs will see 12% cut so some normal waking hours can be used to sharpen and expand skillsets (this is more interesting than spending time watching NBA playoffs anyway or reading whiny comments on thelayoff.com). BK, Obama, and Murthy are not villains... get a grip, and take responsibility for yourself. Best wishes to all. Layoffs suck hard, but dig deep and overcome the negativity, scarcity mentality, entitlement, and/or victimization. Rise above the crud. Be resilient, determined, and optimistic.

@uwi, you're right. At my office (not Intel) the home base decided to completely eliminate three entire teams and consolidate them in another state. They let go several high performers along with several classic examples of dead wood. Sadly, they then brought in foreigners (from Asia) to replace the now out of work Americans. Not a unique situation at all of course.

HR double-talk + good advice from OP. The original post starts straight from the HR book "we're expecting..." (that fake 'we're all in this together BS'). But there is some good advice there at the end. Whatever situation you find yourself in the best way to work through it is to take 100% responsibility - literally. Anything less and you will not be optimizing your life. Intention = result. Harsh but true.

It would be sad if they let hardworking people go but odds are the managers have a list of non performers to scrap in case of such events.

@ udi in a perfect world what you are saying is true. In real world there are way to many factors that have nothing to do with hard work. Someone can be doing perfect job but they let him/her go because they close shop in the city he works at or cancel his group or has an a--hole manager who has him in the list for non performance related reasons.

Yeah being honest clearly makes you HR :) OP speaks the truth 12% isn't that big a number for you math wizards at home it means the 88% of the people will still have jobs. Corporations are not welfare. If you don't do your job and they let you go its not a travesty. It would be sad if they let hardworking people go but odds are the managers have a list of non performers to scrap in case of such events.
