On a worthy and serious note - lots of union talk on this board lately. Can anyone explain all the "great stuff" they have delivered? Any union reps want to take a crack at answering why you will never fulfill all of the false promises? ...Or maybe why this bargaining will go on for years while impacting employee benefits such as increased parental time?

No, I won't be moving in with my father. I have supported him and provided care for him for 7 years, along with my family.

I have saved and invested in myself - I will have no problems if "RIF'd" - in getting another job and supporting my family.

You probably remember when it was good enough to show up with a resume in a suit and have great interviewing skills, knowledge about the company and a degree.... Well be prepared now you need a professionally written linkedin, recommendations, professional resume to get past the hr software... Networking cards, additional separate more readable resumes tailored to the position, know someone at the company your applying to, and have something Elvis touched. And the money you love so much VZW is paying you.... Say goodbye to half of that... Easy. This isn't your old time job market. I'm not sour...I loved my job.... I worked hard everyday and commutted 2.5 hours a day to do it. The shock of it will hit you when it happens and even though we've told you all this... You will be unprepared, stunned and dumbfounded.

It's absolutely crucial for free people to be able to express their feelings, concerns, opinions, likes and dislikes. Telling people to shut up is the equivalent of sealing off the spout of a kettle while heating up the water inside. BOOM! People must, MUST, be able to express themselves. No one has the right to force you to listen or agree.

Every politician knows that if you suppress people's emotions by suppressing their voice it's soon becomes a dictatorship. Again, you should be forcibly sent to live in Zimbabwe, where you will find plenty of murdering rodents who believe as you do. Interesting comments; I think it's important to note that I have sat in that conference room twice since with VZW. I did actually put on my suit and interview, got a job within the company both times; relocated twice. I figured it out and made it work.

Because I have been impacted twice, I am here because the chatter is happening and I am always prepared. If I was impacted tomorrow, I would be fine... either get another position and relocate or move on. It's pretty simple.

It's amazing how many assume that I don't know what it's like just because I am prepared; just because I appreciate the company that has helped me save and build a better life.

If you are not prepared for what happens tomorrow, that's your problem - get prepared but stop bitching about the "machine" that bought you that SUV and that house.

OP, plain and simple, you are an ass... As has been said in other threads, some, if not most, if not all, people can't just "get up and leave". I'm not sure how much real world news makes it into your shiny happy perfect little Verizon bubble, but the economy and the job market still sucks. Add in family and responsibility, and you have a recipe for being completely stuck. I think a better suggestion would be if you don't like reading people's "toxic complaints" then just get off the damn site.

The people critical on the direction of this company are people that have time. We remember when things were different, employees were considered assets. As you get past 25 years it's a little tough to just voluntary move on. The company paid for my degree, but leaving now would be foolish. This place could be better for all, recognizing we all have a part in the success.

All I need to do is get an education and work hard and I can be a CEO. Wow, thanks, now I know what to do.

OP if you're so proud and confident about VZ - why are you trolling the Layoff board?

It's because deep down you're scared too and not that confident about your job! You're checking to see if there's talk about when your department will be hit next. You make yourself believe that all is okay, but deep down you're nervous. You realize the clock is ticking and your number could be next.

Live in denial all you want - but have you once thought that there wouldn't be a board like this on a very public domain for the planet to see if you worked for a great company?

OP - A lot of people here were laid off by Verizon. I think there is anger and resentment towards a company that does so well, but cuts jobs constantly. I think it is hard for people to understand what a negative impact being laid off has on your self esteem and your life, unless they personally experience being laid off after working so hard for Verizon.

I am glad you still have a job with Verizon, but let people complain on here all they want. Is it really that bad they vent their frustrations on this website? Relax, and be happy your still employed.

Of course there are no replies, because it's hard to rebuttal the truth and face the fact that you are also too scared to make a decision and leave this place you hate so much. That also explains your vague, attempted insult of a post.
