Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Didn't want to move to from Grade 8 to Grade 9.

I was maxed out for grade 8 and really didn't want to move to grade 9. The problem they will have moving forward is chaos after focal with whoever gets SSL4. Best thing to do is get the hell out of Intel ASAP otherwise your life will be miserable. This company is poisonous.

I hope to god we're not really banking on drones. I hate them and wish they'd go the way of Beta tapes. lol

We have no clue who you are agreeing to @1ieq since FK4hLoR is the topic ID so everyone that posts to THIS topic is FK4hLoR. It's the characters AFTER the dash that make the postings unique. FYI....

Agree with @FK4hLoR. In addition to the poison of Intel another aspect is that Intel's hand is being forced due to increasing disruption by ARM. Intel's attempts to catch up on the low end will fail because ARM is in classic Clayton Christensen disruption mode producing "good enough" parts that are rapidly moving up the value chain and capturing market share in more attractive markets. This is going to continue for the next decade (just like Intel did to DEC & Sun), as will the Intel layoffs. Drones are not going to save us.

Who cares how that strategy USED to work @1eyz... The rules are changing every day. What used to work might no longer work. Agree that it might be worth a shot, however.... just don't bank on it.

@1eym: I knew an "Intel Lifer" who did that. He'd hang out at Grade 8 for a few years, work really hard one year to get promoted to 9 and stay there for a year, then ask for a demotion back to 8 the next year. Never received a BE or IR, and time in grade was never an issue. He "played the game" better than anyone else I'd ever seen--hell, he might still be doing this today.

Then again, he was very shrewd to only work for managers who were complicit in this plan. (Then again, why wouldn't they? They got Grade 9 work for Grade 8 pay.)

Intel has so many ammo to dispose of senior engineers. One of them will get you.

1sbk, This is true. One other thing to be aware of if you are a high grade level and other employees in your group with lower grade level are doing the same work as you. Automatic ISP.

No matter how you look at it this company is messed up. They treat their senior engineers like crap and the only time you realize is when you work for another company. I was grade 8 and now a VP in a high tech company reporting to the president. The ISP worked out great. Thanks Intel for pushing me to leave this miserable place.
