Thread regarding VMware Inc. layoffs

How many of us still here would like to move on

After 7 years here, the events that transpired this week made me reconsider my position to build a long career with VMware.

How many of you visiting this site think that you should move on. Share your thoughts...

@5fml , Rather than taking names in a public forum you could have done something by staying back but guess what you left someother company and joined VMware and then milked knowledge attained in VMware to join some other organization ( No offense everyone including me has done that , doing that and would keep on doing it)

Be the change that you wish to see in the world

Yes VMware GSS is a call center because they handle calls from customer 24*7 , if they didn't that we might not had jobs but we fail to acknowledge that part , if you were so admant not to work in a call center why join VMware GSS in the first place. Approximately 5 Centers including Bangalore Engineers pick up calls but nobody I have seen complaining this.

Is there management top notch with no need of improvement , I don't think so.

If you carry the mentality that a call taking /night shift job is a low profile job then I am glad that you left VMware and I hope what-ever organization you joined provides you much much needed peace.

If you have find heaven in a place of work where people don't give you shit , please let me know and I give interview for a position in that organization , Even a janitor role would do.

Also man up and call the individuals whose names you have mentioned and sort your issues rather than ranting your views on a public forum.

Regards,

A Honest Ex-VMware GSS Employee.

VMware is now a call center. Worst management in Bangalore. Only tamilians and mallu's can grow.... It's not how you work matters but how close you are to manager and what you do to your manager matters your growth. Keep good relationship with Arvind and Domnic.... You can reach anywhere and everywhere.

I am going to stick it out this year to see how the Dell transition works out. I can take anything for a year. I have thought about seeking employment with Dell. I like the idea of not being a slave to Wall Street and feel you can get just about any technology related position there.

I've had it - the growth cycle is over, now it's all about milking revenue from the existing customer base, R&D will slow down, etc... It's all about cash flow now, fair enough, that's a business model as well. As an engineer, I'd rather go into a growth area and I have skills that are in demand.

At the same time, I see that many people would found staying equally appropriate and that's cool...

Finally, forget any stock value appreciation boys, we are in a downward sloping cycle and the decline will be taking place over many quarters.

@dlj nails it, they do hope that there will be natural attrition due to cuts and that they will not have to lay you off and pay severance - it's an old management trick, a lot of companies announce cuts but they wait few months to see who's gonna blink first. many folks just move on...

Stick it out until after March since there could still be more layoffs and you might end up with a severance.

Most likley they are hoping people will just quit so they don't have to pay severances.

not unless I find something substantial. Its personal choice, I would stick on If I am not able to find a position immediately without jeopardizing my financial situation.
