Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Potential Q2 Teradata Sale....WHY WAIT????

Seriously....if anyone of any importance happens to click through to this site (no offense to the rest of us rank and file that have been lighting up this forum), why in the world would you wait until Q2 to sell the remainder of Teradata (assuming TDA is already gone)? Do you really think the management shell game that is being played with the same old leaders of years past is going to right the ship and recoup significant market cap in a quarter and a half? Do you really think the product offering is going to be so significant over the next quarter and a half that TD sales will bounce back over all regions? There are talented people employed here that could be a contributing part of something bigger, the next disruptive technology, if part of another organization that is more than just a database company. We are too late to the game for Cloud and AWS delivery. Why not sell now before a terrible Q4, year end, and Q1 earnings statements are released dropping our value even further? Is -sell low- really what we are trying to achieve? If so, this looks to be the only successful leadership decision in years.

Here is a theory on selling TD.

  • The CEO to be has left, perhaps he didn't want to sell the business, perhaps he was too aggressive, we will probably never know and is replaced by an interim CEO whose main role now will be to negotiate the sale of TD.

  • There will now be a lot of companies coming to look at us. If a deal can be done quickly then I don't think there will be any more layoffs right away. If no deal can be reached quickly then in 6 months I'll bet there is another very large round of layoffs as the company shutters what it can't sell to make the rest of TD look more appetizing.

  • For a shareholder, the most appealing part of TD is the stake TD has in HortonWorks. Its quite possible that the company attempts to sell off all its main businesses including the Data & Analytics Division. This would leave Teradata proper as an investment business with stakes in other businesses. In case of a buyout this is the most profitable strategy for the executives.

Yes, it's all about timing, I am sure we will be acquired but the price needs to come down IMHO

But in 6 months, given past quarterly declines in market cap post earnings statements, TDC will be worth about $1 billion less.

I see your point but find it hard to believe that execs of their age would buy a company themselves that they have not been able to turn around over the past several years during the decline.

They may be looking for a leverage buy out in which the execs would buy the company. In this case lower stock value is good for them.

@EQGOQLE you nailed it - now, the question is who in their right mind would pay a premium for Teradata
