Thread regarding Frontier Communications Corp. layoffs

Bueller...Bueller....

Sooooo has anyone seen their Union?
More specifically, has anyone heard anything from their Union in regards to this bankruptcy stuff?
My calls and emails must be getting lost ::sarcasm::

Please dont tell me to "go to a meeting". If, it's a big "if", if we ever have one scheduled it gets cancelled before it happens.

I have given them over $15k in dues, yet cannot get any information from them.

To this day managers still have their pets that can get away with anything, double standards when it comes to disciplinary actions. Some techs are written up for minor stuff while the managers pet gets away with murder. Managers of certain work groups have been getting away with that for years and nothing is ever said. Fios and copper techs questioned about being a mile out of route, other groups are 30-40 miles away from where they're supposed to be. Upper management needs to have a long hard look at the managers and workgroups that aren't Fios and copper.

The only ones who have been tricked are those who still pay dues.

People are easily tricked. It the same account(s) posting the anti-union nonsense. The irrational hate of union jobs.

@Brawny Man. You are right. I was in a meeting with a union steward and coach and the told me to leave the conference so they could be alone for 15 minutes to grieve it out!! I thought that was strange at the time.

At least they did put a stop to the union stewards sleeping with the coaches. Boy was that awkward when you had a union steward representing you in an investigation and they were having an affair with the coach sitting across the table from you.

On top of union fees and losing in every contract, we still have to get hit up about buying union shirts(v-necks,long sleeves, belly shirts etc etc). Give it a break already and do something!

Union needs to stop telling everyone " it will be ok and don't worry". Maybe step up and let people know what could happen if bankruptcy is filed or what is being discussed in meetings. If the company is not trying to negotiate the contract in Florida..YOU HAVE YOUR ANSWERS!!!!!!!!
HOLD ON TIGHT..

The union hasn’t gained a thing for anyone in years. All they do is give things back with each new contract. There is zero reason to pay them dues anymore. Giving them money every paycheck for a wage scale they negotiated 40 yrs ago is beyond stupid. Nobody owes them anything now. In fact they owe us given all the things they have lost on our behalf over the last ten years.

Just to answer a couple questions that were asked earlier.

  1. The company has to prove to the bankruptcy court that your union contract is putting financial stress on the company. If this gets proven then the court can either strike certain provisions of the contract and institute what they deem fair or force both sides back to the table.
  2. The lump sum gets frozen upon the company filing bankruptcy paperwork. So if you file retirement paperwork today with an official off payroll day on next Friday and the company files bankruptcy on Thursday you will not get a lump sum and only receive the annuity. If your off payroll day is Thursday and they declare on Friday then you should be good to go on lump sum.

I assure you that the Company is not sharing much with the Union. If you aren't getting information, be upset with the company for not sharing not your Union.
I will never understand people who get upset with the Union. If GTE/Verizon/Frontier were not Union we all would be making at least 50% less a year in wages. I think paying around $1,000 a year dues, in return, around 50% more in wages, better benefits, representation and Just Cause is a pretty good trade off. Not sure what else you want.

I dont think the expectation is that their union should be off $17B.
I think the expectation is that maybe they shouldn't be radio silent just like the company.

Maybe take 45-6o minutes and craft an update/email of information that may be useful. Add some clarity to questions like "can I file retirement and get lump sum still"? Or "what can potentially happen to our current contract if they do file"? Or "we have a 'no layoff' clause. Can we still be impacted by this filing"?

Maybe answering questions that impact people's lives instead of leaving it up to everyone's imagination.

I’m beginning to think the union is only interested in my money and nothing else.

What do expect your union to do? Pay off $17 billion in loans?
