Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Corporate Holiday Lunch

On Wednesday there is a Follett holiday lunch at a local hotel for all the corporate folks. Based on how they have been squeezing expenses, laying off administrative assistants, ASM's, and others, it's hard to imagine that they are spring for a free lunch. Hmm, what is the catch?

You don't have to quit, Follett will get rid of you when they feel you are not needed.
I stayed for over 20 years, only to come in one morning and be blind sighted by HR telling me I am no longer needed. As for finding a other job as some state is an open market, BS!!
If you can get out do it,because they don't care if you are dedicated or not.

I really wish people would stop with the "if you don't like it leave" attitude. Some of us Love our job, our staff, our schools, we just don't like what Follett has done to us, how they have treated us, the lack of respect and appreciation.
I am an old timer, been around longer than I care to admit, have managed to make it through layoffs, and I remember a time that I felt like I mattered, that I was a somebody with a name, and when you went to a management conf. you felt special/important.
It is very hard to leave a job that you really like, that works for all areas of your life, the people you adore, the relationships you have worked so hard at building, and to start over at a not so young age.
We are mad, and hurt, and work so hard to meet every task/every goal given to us. We just want what is fair, and to be appreciated for a job well done.

It is just really sad. Dedicated people that love their job, campus, staff, and are forced to quit because the company sees no value in its employees. Many of us have done our job for a very long time and dont want to make a major life change so long in. Starting over is scary, hard. If they just gave us a little show of true appreciation and paid us what is fair. That isnt asking for much.

@12xcCfeC-4duq - so if you don't like being treated like dirt by people that don't earn the company a dime you should just quit?
How about this, how about all the store associates join a union?
I'm sure the family would love that!
How about a national strike in the middle of rush?
Family would be proud for everyone to know how bad they treat the folks in the field.
Home Office heroes could come to the stores and save the day!

No one is forcing you to stay...don't like the scenery change your view.

Any company that has an adversarial relationship between the field and the H.O. is bound to fail. The arrogance of @12xcCfeC-2aec is a symptom of a malignant tumor. Why spend your talents on a sinking ship? Be confident enough to advocate for yourself and find a new opportunity. With a good resume, you will find a new opportunity. I am proof that this is possible. I am happier, my paycheck is bigger and my blood pressure is in the normal range. Run!

@12xcCfeC-2aec thank you! This is what inspires associates in the stores (where the Family money is generated) to work harder knowing that you, who's only job is to support us in our efforts to generate profits, like to bully us. I WILL remember this as I begin my work day as I'm sure many others will.
Hey Family, are you proud of the Westchester team you've put together? Hey CT, proud of the way YOUR family runs their family run business? Proud to teach other family run business how YOUR family does it?

Hey guys! Home office associate here. You’d be happy to know that leadership gave 100 raffle prizes consisting of over 10 Apple watches, 10 AirPods, 2 - 43 inch Samsung TVs and much more. Also, we got the rest of the day off with pay. I guess we really do sit in the “ivory tower” as y’all call it. Happy Holidays!

Home Office should give up their bonuses for a year or two and put the money back for labor hours. Can't run a store on the current budgets. Hassle free customer service went out the window when you can only pay 2 keyholders to run the store. Phones don't get answered, ISTs dont get done, receiving doesn't get done, soda doesn't get done in a timely fashion. Then we are all on bad lists. Get a flipping clue.

Home office doesn't make money. They are there to SUPPORT the stores where the family income is generated. Home office should forego any holiday celebration and forward those monies to each and every associate in the field that generates the income. Thanks Family! Happy Holidays!

Job market really not that great. Illinois November layoff numbers were the biggest in a long time. Retail management salaries going down. Good luck out there. Home office should be sending all stores vouchers to provide a nice holiday lunch for ‘each & every associate’ not just the privileged few who are not in the trenches.

Wish I had labor hours to eat somewhere besides at the cash wrap between customers...

Unrelated to the clearly mission crucial Lunch issue, but I hope y’all can somehow manage to enjoy yrr repast within the required 30 minute window, which clearly works perfectly for every store in every region.

My question to the first replier regards job market. What source told you it was at an “all time high?” What makes you trust that source enough to post it here as a set in stone fact?

Jobs are not at an all time high, take it from one of the many people Follett laid off .
Been months and so far nothing, degree means nothing and I continue to look.
Glad our paychecks can give you all a great Holiday party.

If there was not a lunch, or they took it away, you would be complaining as well. Who can win? Hope we don't see you there. The job market is at an all time high.....you should consider looking at your options so you don't have to eat our lunch.
