Thread regarding Allscripts layoffs

Consultants?

About 6 months ago Allscripts ended all third party consultants contracts. I understood that resource management would look to their own before looking outside. I just found out otherwise. I know that it’s cheaper to employ consultants (no benefits, etc.), but just wow. RIF good people then turn around and this? Just wow.

@12wnZ7mZ-4mkh: Having seen a listing of TCS employee salaries, they're making a salary comparable to most US workers. Junior developers were listed as making 80K usd, even though they didn't have any experience, barely knew how to write software, and barely knew how to speak English. The years of experience listed on their resumes were falsified. Resumes were also duplicated with only the name changed. That is fraud, and sums up all of these contracting companies.

Agree he should be the first one to be fired. Wish the board review this site during their meetings.

Maybe they should look at Paul Black who has run this company to the ground along with management cronies

@12wnZ7mZ-2zyd: Have you experienced the quality of these consultants firsthand? It's a joke. Just like all those highly skilled geniuses in India.

Why go back? Short-term 20K+ on top of previous salary. You have to be one of the manager pets to be eligible, tho.

Skrew em like they skrew you.

Why would you go back? While you always work under the possibility of getting let go, at Allscripts its a given after you gain a little seniority. When you look around and everyone you started with is gone....

No, not rehiring RIFd people yet. The hired consultant is going to do work that could have been done by a RIFd person though.

I've seen first hand instances where companies have layed off employees who had knowledge of critical systems that no one else had. These companies had no choice but hire them back as consultants/contractors. Big Oops. The re-hired employees made out quite nicely, however.

Allscripts also has a huge number of off-shore employees, particularly in India. They do this because the Trump administration has been cracking down on bogus H1Bs. Why do you need more expensive American workers when you can save money paying Indians less? Quantity over quality. The Allscripts way.

Yes, that is definitely the way Allscripts will operate for a while. Interesting note about previous posting.... Allscripts would rather acquire smaller competitors if they have the capital and can strip them of something useful. But people/existing staff are usually at the bottom of the list to keep. Take a look at the people laid off from the McKesson acquisition and elsewhere.

They seem intent on hiring interns and then hiring them as regular employees if they work out. Cheaper then hiring senior experienced workers. Regardless of experience level, the better ones seem to only stay for a couple of years and then move on to greener pastures
