New list of store closures

Heard from around HQ that a new list of closures is going to be released this coming week. Not sure how many Sears or Kmart stores are set to close but my guess is the rest of Kmart stores are on this list.

@1dee There will most certainly be more closures and they will continue until there are zero stores left. The only questions are when, and which ones are first? But they will all close. Future is online, anyway, not B&M. That's what they should focus on, and close these busted, broken stores that look like they haven't been repaired in 60 Years.

@1vyh Dude, any links to those? The only one I posted was Temple City and I provided a link to it. If you're going to call stores as closing, please only do so with a link. Wouldn't want to mislead anyone without proof, that's why I only post closings, when I have links to prove it. The only one on your list that I can find a link to is Temple City. Please provide links to the others. Thanks.

Sears Mexico is an entirely separate and unrelated company to Sears US (just as KMart Australia is)

To those claiming Eddie will be in trouble for a broken promise if Sears liquidates, I hate to break it to you...he won't be. Recall that in bankruptcy, the only other alternative was a sale to liquidators. There was nobody else offering to "save" Sears. So it's not like this could have had a better outcome. The sale to Eddie bought some time; some may say that's better than instant liquidation. But he now owns the company and there were no conditions on the sale (there usually aren't in bankruptcy). If he wants to shut it down, as owner he has that right. I dot like it; I don't like him. But the fantasy that some judge is going to step out of the shadows if Sears liquidates are truly delusional.

If they go completely belly-up, just a few months after agreeing in bankruptcy court to save 425 stores and 45,000 employees, then it would show that this whole thing was a sham. So maybe, just maybe, Mr. Lampert has to actually try to go forward with something, even something like 175 stores, just to make this legitimate, or he opens himself up to major lawsuits. Lawsuits because then people could claim this whole thing was a scam, and only he benefited. By reducing 425 stores down to 175-150 stores, he can claim things were worse than I originally thought, but see, I still did save the company and kept open as much as I could. I suspect more than his reputation is at stake if he closes shop now, so he needs to keep some full line stores operational as long as humanly possible. Just my theory though.

The only Sears in South Texas left is in Laredo, Texas. I bet this store won't survive this round. This store is always busy on the weekends. Especially from alot of tourism from Mexico.

Ocala was sold. The new owner is leasing it back to Transform, for now, who knows for how long.

NJ sears/kmarts how many are gonna survive this round?

@ksu There are no "go forward locations", as far as full line stores. There are just some that will close earlier than others, and some will close later than others. But they're ALL closing. Every last one of them. This is the list of Kmart jobs available in California, the biggest state. And most of these jobs you see, are in closing stores. The (for now) non-closing stores, Big Bear Lake, & Costa Mesa, each have 1 Seasonal job available. That's right. 1 job listed each, in DECEMBER. The writing is on the wall, it's over:

@deg Nah, pull the plug on this turkey. Who wants to see a football team that is down 5-0 with 2 Minutes left in the game? To put it in perspective, 98% of Kmarts have closed. They had about 3000 stores now have 59. Just 59! See that NFL analogy. Let the players hit the showers and go home. This is the horse at Belmont that broke 3 legs. NO need for him to suffer. End his misery. It's over.

Eddie Lampert has burned his bridges with vendors and suppliers. He forgets that these vendors and suppliers are members of associations such as the Chamber of Commerce and other organizations. Word gets around about certain companies that have difficulties paying vendors and suppliers. All of the stores will shutter for good.

Lampert's reputation in the retail industry is extremely poor. His money can't buy the court of public opinion.

I won't be surprised if Transformco filed for Chapter 11.

I wish we could post pictures on this page. I would show how much apparel is being g shipped via UPS.
The other side to that coin is the store is not staffed to process or stock it 'cause no o e is scheduled when we have no idea the product is coming or how much or what it is. Then the store teams are reprimanded because there is product in the stock room.
It's a vicious cycle that no one will own up to and it keeps getting worse.

I suspect that states with only 1 Sears/Kmart left probably won’t survive this round, as it becomes harder to support isolated stores, the smaller the company gets. Especially as you also close distribution centers. Although if you ship in via UPS, that eliminates the need for a DC. States that still have multiple Sears & Kmarts, like California, Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey, might lose some stores, but not be totally eliminated from the game. Just my guess is all.

What kind of clown show is being run when you have to ship product to stores via UPS? That no one is empowered to write a check to a driver found on Craigslist is everything wrong with Eddie's Sears, Running a single store profitably is not that hard. Just ask all the new tenants in former Sears and Kmart locations. Even churches can do it.

I say keep the ship afloat as long as possible! It matters to those who still work there! That said, how many total stores are we looking at this round?

Just end them all already....there is no way the fragmented mess of what is left of Sears/Kmart is in any way viable.

Which stores does the Delano distributes to?

There are plenty of remaining Sears stores that are just as far apart as the remaining Kmarts are. The entire SE (excluding Florida) has 5 stores in 3 states, and the minimum distance between them is about 200 miles.

If Ocala closes, it removes the only RRC left in that region, and it also removes the DDC all the Florida stores use. There’s no reason to leave the stores (of any format) open when product has to be shipped in from over 500 miles away.

What would be the point in keeping Kmarts if its a pain in the a– to deliver products when they so far apart. Just end the whole thing, it is a joke at this point.

Post ID: @nyn+12pvJwSF

Most of the rest of both formats in the SE and more thinning out along the West Coast is more likely given the closure of the Delano RRC and the sale of the Ocala RRC. Ocala probably gets announced at the same time the next batch of stores are.

There are going to be Kmart and Sears stores left until the bitter end, but the Kmarts are going to be few and far between.
