Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Kmart Hours

I posted this before but it disappeared. I was wondering why some Kmart stores have Hours that are vastly different from others. For example, in K. D. Hills, NC, Hours are listed as:
Hours
Sunday 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM
Monday 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM
Tuesday 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM
Wednesday CLOSED
Thursday CLOSED
Friday CLOSED
Saturday 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM

This has to be a misprint right? No way they are closed 3 Days per Week?

Here, just click that location:

https://www.kmart.com/stores/north-carolina.html

Also, in Burlington WA,

https://www.kmart.com/stores/washington/burlington/3722.html

Store is listed as open 10 AM-8 PM. I have never seen a Kmart opening at 10 AM, so was wondering if anybody local to that area Knew if this is accurate or a misprint?

@1cnr Well I guess they discontinued that practice because if you Check the Ship Bottom CVS now, they are open 7 Days, as is the LBI Acme, and we're in January now, so if ever there was A Time they would do it, would be now. I think I'll call this Kmart to confirm this though, so I have a definite answer 1 way or the other.

@12OVO2F0-1tmn there are national chains on LBI, not department stores they were all over the causeway on 72 and open 7 days. I know when I was a teen ACME in Beach Haven closed 3 days a week, CVS in Ship Bottom and several gas stations did that as well

@1bin That may be the case but none of the other large department stores (WM, Targy, Kohls, Lowes, whatever) to my Knowledge, do that with any of their stores. I don't think that barrier islands by Tuckerton have any of those large chains. I may be wrong, but I lived in NJ, drive through that area quite often, and dont remember any of the large chain stores on those islands in Ocean County NJ. Now West Long Branch, NJ, is also in a Shore town and it's very quiet This Season, but they are open 7 Days......

@12OVO2F0-1qnd if the population is 700 on the weekdays and 4,000 on the weekends it isn't worth operating at a loss. I grew up in Tuckerton NJ and on the actual barrier islands, even national chains and gas stations used to close during the week. On the mainland where we were , everything was open 7 days because it's where the majority of the population was -shrugs-

@1plq Wow, so they are only open 4 Days per Week? I have never seen any Kmart that way. I'm just curious why they bother then, especially when WM is few miles away. I guess I should call them and confirm it. I completely could see some mom and pop type shops operating that kind of schedule, but I always thought the big chains (Kmart, Sears, Wally, Targy) have Corporate-set Hours, for the most part. There is an exception somewhere in NJ (Bergen County I think?) where due to blue laws they can't open Sun.'s.

KD Hills may very well be closed 3 days a week during the winter as it is a Summer tourist destination and the only business they get is on the weekends for the winter warriors post Christmas season. I grew up in an area heavily influenced by tourists and these types of hours are normal during the winter for most businesses.

@een Thank you for that! That explains the WA store. I'm surprised they haven't closed yet, so isolated up there with the nearest Kmarts being Hamilton, Montana, and Mckinleyville California. I'm sure they will soon. As for that other NC example, that has to be a mistake on their site. I saw their site, and OP is right, it's listed as closed 3 Days per Week, but I'm sure that's a typo on Kmart's part.

The Burlington store has opened @ 10am on weekdays for years. When I worked at Kmart near Portland, Oregon, the Burlington store was ALWAYS the worst in the district for sales (typically barely hit the 8,000 range in a day. It is a shock that they ended up as the last Kmart in the Pacific Northwest, when plenty of other stores brought in much better sales!

First one definitely misprint on their website. Not sure about WA store though, maybe they just open late. Ya, every Kmart I Knew opened at 8 AM.
