Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Feel bad for long term Teradata staff

The ones that have been there 10 to 15+ years typically have no other marketable skills. When TD collapses they will struggle. This entire group generally is fairly low calibre anyway (Especially in PS), which followed weak leadership. The result of all this is starting to be seen and this is the beginning of the end for a once previous market leader. Sad....

What a sh***y assumption that just because someone worked at Teradata for a long time that they have no other marketable skills. What a great way to dump on people in distress. How ageist are you? I worked at Teradata for over 20 years and was laid off on November 13. I have plenty of up-to-date marketable skills, and I will take them elsewhere once I can get over my very broken heart.

You should feel badly for the folks who were 25 months from retirement. They can’t get hired unless they want to work for the customers they supported.

They blew it when they riffed the long term Teradatans who knew the product inside and out.
Also, very true about hiring friends into managerial positions who are clueless.
Lack of strong leadership is a huge problem.

Reported PS Margin is totally irrevelant. Nebulous costs are supported by PS, too much useless mid mgmt in this company!

It's really pathetic to read these inhumane comments about people losing their jobs. Really shows the true nature if rotten people. it's almost like you people are enjoying the misery of others. Karma will get you all, believe me.

The problem is Consulting/Sales is 75% of the company, and is at negative margins vs most consulting at other companies is at 40% margins. OL, TC, and others have said that the only role of consulting is to sell Vantage - a poor quality product.

It is a problem of leadership at the ELT - too many Chiefs and no direction, no plans to get the work done. The Consulting strategy has been in flux for the past 3 years, and still people aren't clear what they are supposed to be doing.

I do feel bad for the long timers - it's not their fault the leaders don't lead, just give orders.

@1225BcjV-pmz, turf wars are really all across the company.

Take a look at PS leadership for last few years. GH, SS, MB, JL, RR, SK we have bunch of guys who have no clue about selling PS business or the technology. The only skill they have is someone at the top likes them for their inefficiencies. This has gone for long time now where a clan comes in from another company and takes over a slice of the business and then starts inserting their friends. Skills or experience is not the key here just the fact that they are all friends. One of the main guy who has been promoted and kept untouched is the worst of them all. Everyone in PS knows who I am talking about and he hasn't sold a single deal. Unless we bring skilled leaders this company will continue to lay off dedicated employees instead of the useless management.

I don’t agree with the analysis of PS staff. Most staff have sound capabilities, however under dreadfully poor leadership have exercised product bias rather than customer lead analysis.
PS leadership has been a key component in the demise of this company, however link this back to responsibility for individual profitability, as opposed to linkage to company success!

APAC got rid of two sales people a while ago, both with strong PS sales capability. One closed $5 mill of PS before being made redundant. Best Decision Possible...

APAC PS going from 140 to 39. Multiple redundancies today across the region. We doubt it will recover
