Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

Changes to PTO payouts

"effective October 28, 2019, team members on Sabre’s payroll will no longer receive pay out of earned but unused paid time off when they leave the Company, except where required by law."

If anything is going to happen in terms of massive layoffs, it would make sense for that to happen AFTER Oct 28th.

Our HR department is a Motley bunch.
Increases in maternity leave is supposed to attract candidates but then you alter a PTO policy to be extremely non competitive in almost every market. Genius.

So KW joked about using your PTO before you voluntarily leave. Until it is in writing, DO NOT assume that those laid off in the future will be paid unused PTO. And if you negotiated more PTO than the policy when you were hired, you better make sure you have it in writing because they will not pay it to you. Fact.

Too busy doing the work of 3 to waste time going to self-congratulatory double-speak town halls.

"I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further."

HR propoganda machine is on the job to settle down the backlash on those LQI reviews we see here

"Who says...?" Well, the head of Human Resources, e-team member, said so explicitly yesterday in company wide townhall. She even joked if you're leaving voluntarily take your vacation first. With the CEO sitting feet away. But, if the premise is everything is a lie, I guess you can and will continue hand wringing, because nothing will suffice.

Workers in Texas have much less rights than workers in Poland.

Who says not paying earned PTO applies only to voluntary separations?

The email notification of this PTO withholding did not draw any distinction between voluntary or involuntary separations.

@11ljp4tw-2gfn That's not true.

Stop the handwringing. It only applies to voluntary separations, as it should.

I really love it whenever people ask if layoffs are coming in a town hall q and a.

You can guarantee that the answer will always be "we have no layoff plans at this time".

Every single time without fail. It doesn't matter if they really know or if it's HR's little secret.

If I had a dollar each time this answer was followed by a layoff within a couple of months... I would have about enough to buy a steak dinner... at steak and shake... including the shake!

It's coming. You don't screw over the US staff with vacation reimbursement cancellation like this just for fun! Why else? Prepare yourself.

Take January off instead of December. Some people can probably take most of February off too and work from home for the rest. Take your earned vacation immediately in case you get laid off later. If you lose your earned unused vacation when you are laid off it's the same as losing that salary you would have earned during those weeks. It's a lot of money right at the time when you would need it most. If you don't need the vacation then you could use the vacation to work somewhere else for a few weeks and make some extra money.

Wow! That's really shocking for a large US company to stop paying out earned PTO! A new low for Sabre if true.

Looks to be like Sabre is planning a Halloween "surprise" for US employees. I noticed on Glassdoor that employee satisfaction with the company and the CEO has steadily gone up. Are all of those reviews coming from the many, many VPs or mostly from KRK?

Yeah right. And also you should get additional $$$ because you have a higher salary now...
C'mon. This benefit is especially for keeping younger people in - very eager to seek better opportunities outside of Sabre. They are the target...

ah but, we do have access to paid time off when we get pregnant which is very helpful for those of us beyond child bearing age. I wonder if it is retroactive for kids we had 20 years ago?

im sure it applies to anyone that is not under contract. It also provides more bite to the non competes etc that you have to sign at layoff to get any $$ at all

I suspect this applied to folks who resign on their own, not to anyone affected by layoffs.

That's really, really mean. It really can't make that much difference in terms of cost. Is this really legal in the US?

Yes, it sounds like they are preparing something bigger and positioning themselves to have to pay less. The know that alot of people save up vacation to use at the holidays and at the end of the year. I am sure they are salivating over what this will save them. I know some employees who end up taking most of December off. Good luck.
