Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Any word on Pa Stores?

It has been rumored that the Pa store's are going to take a big hit come October. No real confirmation yet. It was mentioned the North East will be done, Wind Gap ,Walnutport, Williamsport and Wilkes Barre. Can't see this happening but some of these store's are dumps with many things needed to be fixed including management. There will be a good void if these Kmarts close but life goes on.

Kingston PA just has a new listing for a pharmacist, listed on 9/30. While I suppose anything is possible, it is unlikely that they would be hiring a pharmacist (a highly specialized job requiring a degree), in a store that was closing soon:

@2wtn Not sure why you are copying me and using my name but whatever floats your boat buddy. I quit Kmart (NOT SEARS as they were not connected then) where I was an assistant store manager. I moved on to a better opportunity with another company and retired recently. I'm not retired "from Sears" as u put it, as I never worked for Sears. Sears didn't join Kmart until 2005, I think, and I wasn't there then. Now go Watch the game or something, LOL.

@2zcn No store is safe as exemplified by the closing of the Northridge CA Sears store, a flagship store and the company store in Southern CA.

True or not it isn't kind to post if no facts are given. I can see some of the store's closing but those mentioned are safe in my eyes.

Sad to say but the writing is on the wall. Wilkes Barre, Wind Gap and Kingston were leaked by sources above. They are on the next list and will be announced soon. Have not been in the two w store's but Kingston is a total waste of space.

@1irz Of course you can't post a link. Nobody ever can. When I see one, I'll consider it closed. Good Day!

Eddie wants to get rid of much inventory as possible. All stores will be gone by 2020. That's his REAL transformation. There is money issues going on with vendors and suppliers. Some people will claim that Sears Holdings financial and legal problems won't affect Transformco because their separate companies. It does affect Transformco because Eddie is still tied with Sears Holdings legally and financially.

The bankruptcy case is not going well for him. I believe the man is not living in reality. Remember he kept saying he could turn around Sears an Kmart for years. That failed. Then he told Judge Robert Drain in bankruptcy court that he wanted to save 45,000 jobs. That failed.

Eddie's track record of saving jobs and the company is not very good. It's best to seek other employment before the job market crashes again.

@1gtq it's in the print version of the paper as it's an ad. Can't post a link as it's paywall.

West Chester, PA is going. Liquidation ad in today's Philadelphia Inquirer, despite not being on the list before.

@liv You could be correct but I heard on here that usually the stores that only have "Seasonal" jobs listed are likely to close. 1 of the stores he mentioned has about 10 openings including store management etc.. But it is quite possible, as you indicated, that it doesn't mean anything.

I don't think job openings mean anything.

Manuel, all the remaining PA Kmart stores preety much ARE in the east of the state. Looking at the jobs page, Williamsport has about 10 openings including management positions, so it may not be in the next round of closings. Here:
https://jobs.sears.com/en-US/search?keywords=&location=PA,USA&placeid=ChIJieUyHiaALYgRPbQiUEchRsI&facetcompany=kmart&facetcitystate=williamsport,pa

Walnutport has supervisory jobs still open:

https://jobs.sears.com/en-US/search?keywords=&location=PA,USA&placeid=ChIJieUyHiaALYgRPbQiUEchRsI&facetcompany=kmart&facetcitystate=walnutport,pa

So does Wind Gap:
https://jobs.sears.com/en-US/search?keywords=&location=PA,USA&placeid=ChIJieUyHiaALYgRPbQiUEchRsI&facetcompany=kmart&facetcitystate=wind%20gap,pa

Oddly, Kingston PA has NO open positions listed so perhaps that might be more likely next round?

I just came back from one of the liquidating stores- in Clifton Heights PA. People were asking about when they were closing, and they still said sometime in December. While there, I went all around the store and in the back area that lacks shelves there were pallets with boxes and boxes of merchandise in lowes boxes from the willow street pa store. This is in agreement with a reply on another posting on this board saying everything was being boxed up and shipped out at their nonclosing store. The cashier that I spoke with said they are getting in a lot of inventory that corporate wants to get rid of. My guess is that the currently open stores will keep providing the liquidating stores with inventory, all the while not actually getting much product in themselves. Then they will all close. It's like a proxy liquidation (which is exactly what's been happening with this company for years- it's just on a different scale).

All Kmarts are going. PA has a much higher number left than average, that's why it will be a bigger hit there.

I was in Williamsport last week. Bad, bad shape. Almost looks like liquidation has started and they don't even know it.
