Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Better list of stores not closing yet. Ignore my previous 1.

Sorry, my computer somehow added all kinds of numbers to the format of my last list so let me try that again. Here are the stores, that, to my research, are not yet closed or closing. Everything here is verifiable. Painstaking process, but here's my list of stores not closed or closing. Took a lot of effort, in many cases, calling each store to verify, as KMART's website is vastly out of Date. Feel free to use it, share it, whatever, but just remember that Jack made this list. If you don't remember Jack, then you don't Know Jack. Sorry, couldn't resist. Anyway, if y'all find any errors, or anything new that has been announced not reflected in here, please let me Know so I can fix my list. Here goes, the final stats are at the bottom:

Wow sorry for the bump, but didn't realize there were so many stores so recently (2019).

I, for one, miss this guy and his lists.

It's easy to list now with hardly any locations, but I can imagine it was tedious when all these were open, and no accurate Kmart website to rely upon.

@4xpe I am not sure that store in Brooklyn still is considered a Kmart. I see no evidence of that online. I think that was an experimental concept but now it's just a regular Sears. It was never listed as a Kmart on the website. That location is listed as Sears, so that's why I didn't include it on here.

The only problem: You keep omitting the Kmart in Brooklyn that's inside Sears.

@4ykv @4qxx @4cfn LOL, copying my name eh? I didn't quit Sears, I quit Kmart (the 2 were not connected in 2001 when I was there). Again, I'm not here for thumbs ups. But the fact is, they did happen. This is 1 of the most viewed threads ever on here. You're welcome. BOOM! Who has Time? Me, because I'm retired so I have PLENTY OF TIME to mess around on the computer and research this stuff. Why do I correct grammatical errors? Because I dislike poor grammar. I am an expert on the English language (even though it's my 3rd language), that's why.

@4ayo I did this to help people. Look how many views and thumbs up I got (not that I did it for that reason). And when Eddie closes another store, I simply delete it from this go-forward list. Eventually they will all close so there wont be any more list!

@4atc I agree with you 100%. Someone lives a very shallow life especially when you consider that Eddie can and does change his mind in a heartbeat which changes the "list".

@3jgc Most of it was copying and pasting. Somehow I must have pasted the wrong name, big deal. And yes, Lake Taco was to be humorous. I am very certain on the accuracy of the closing information, in that any store I didnt include here, I am 100% certain will not be going forward. I am not 100% certain on spelling of each town, nor do I really care about it LOL!

I was simply pointing out what I saw since he was so certain on his accuracy and the finding of verifiable information. I would expect someone to proofread before posting with that kind of expectation.

@3akh It was a typo, that city in Oregon, who cares? I'm pretty sure, when OP wrote Lake TACO instead of Tahoe, it was probably a bit of humor. It has no effect on the accuracy of his list however.

@2oda I meant local media as in online, not newspapers. So far, every store closing, I have been able to verify through some or the other online source, be it smaller markets like Kalispell MT, or larger markets like some of the NY/NJ stores. If a store is officially closing, it will be listed online somewhere eventually. There literally has not been 1 exception to this rule yet.

Post ID: @2sos+11dwulTg

Unfortunately if you've been been following the news a third of America doesn't even have local media anymore. If you're relying on local media, you're going to miss a lot of closings.

by

Post ID: @2oda+11dwulTg

@2fwa Local media will ALWAYS put up a link if the story is true. Even in tiny markets like Kalispell Montana, they provided a link. When a link is up, I will consider it official. Thank you.

Why don't you just call West Chester and Hayward then, as you claimed you did/would to verify? Local media doesn't care enough to have an online link.

by

Post ID: @2fwa+11dwulTg

@2znq You mean "doesn't matter to me" not "don't matter to me". Anyway, I'll be happy to remove West Chester from the go forward list. As soon as I see the link posted (which should be in A Few Days), I will officially do that.

by

Post ID: @2oyv+11dwulTg

So keep west Chester on the open list then. Don't matter to me. Facts are facts, which makes your list incorrect. West Chester is axed. But count it as an open store!

by

Post ID: @2znq+11dwulTg

@1psq Oh OK, West Chester is closing and "someone saw it". That's great, and I am almost certain that's the case, bu almost certain is not verifiable neither is "someone saw it". When I see a link online when I google it, I'll be happy to modify my list. Take care! :)

by

Post ID: @1pdc+11dwulTg

@1bcq Every store that is not on this list, I can provide a link that it is closed or closing. If you see an inaccuracy on my list, please link to it and I will correct it. It's fairly straightforward (yet tedious) to find out if a store is closing. Simply googling it or calling usually does the trick.
For the record, I am fully aware this list of go-forward stores will continue to shrink until it's at zero. I just don't want to remove any store from this list until I can verify it. :)

Post ID: @1zfq+11dwulTg

I know you capitalized the Redlands store in California, but isn't that one closing too? Anyway, thanks for the list. It's beyond the point to have any Kmarts left in California if there isn't one left in Central Los Angeles. As everyone has pointed out, they were only after the real estate, not the store operations. At this point, it really is beyond salvageable. They will circle the drain for another year, or close abruptly. Who knows?

The problem, I think, is that there can be up to a week or more between when a store is announced and when the liquidation sale starts. This also assumes that anyone in the local media even gives a c-ap about a Kmart closing in a timely enough fashion to report about it. There are, however, subtle clues that a store may be closing, such as big signs on things like the lottery vending machine that say lottery sales have ended due to the store closing. All this is to say that your list is not as accurate as you believe it to be, and that it will not be as easy to generate it as you think it will be. And that is by this company's design.

@1lgd Public, private, medium, whatever. If a store is closing, there is always a link to it online. As soon as I see a link, I believe it. I never post that a store is closing without providing a link. If you have 1, I'll be happy to look at it. As they Say, pics or it didn't happen LOL!

@1htq OK, I will call them, but there's absolutely NOTHING posted online? I googled that store, and filtered results on the computer to "Last Month". And I still see absolutely nothing? I'm sure what you mention is correct, but as soon as I see something in writing online when I google it, I will consider it official.

@1lgf, @1hre I appreciate the Tips, however when I search online, I don't see any links to Westchester PA or Hayward CA closing. I don't consider anything as such, until I see concrete proof, not just word of mouth. As soon as I see some concrete proof, I will reflect that in my list! To be clear, I think both are very plausible, as they only have "Seasonal" jobs listed, a Tell-tale sign that they could be next. If u have any links or proof, please let me Know. Thanks!
